When I first saw the reveal trailer, I thought the CA would follow you around like Dormammu’s Flame Carpet. The current version still has its uses, but it would be a lot better if it followed you around.
Most people are arguing that his fireball isn’t good. Not that it should be horizontal.
He should definitely have an air Yoga Fire that fires in a curved, downward arc. It’ll cover the gap from grounded Yoga Fire and give him more air to ground control he definitely needs.
Like Sepiroth said, a small flame carpet left on geound impact would be sick. It could cover the problem of his fireball being kinda bad at hitting meaty. I think his Yoga Fire should travel faster on their given arc as well.
i really doubt they’re going to buff Dhalsim beyond midrange, and honestly I would not be remotely interested in this character if he was the same as in sf4. honestly would anyone really care if fchamp doesn’t play this character anymore.
Yeah… and then give him a demon flip while we’re at it?
He’s honestly a new character and already has 2 new tools that give him increased air options, and air-to-ground control he never had before. People are saying Sim is like a marvel character now. He doesn’t need more options, he just needs understood. I think he looks good as he is. If he gets anything more, he’ll be overpowered.
I understand why people make the comparison, but marvel characters are FAR deeper than Dhalsim in SFV… I have not touched this game yet, but I already know in depth what Dhalsim can do with his movement. I do have som ideas I want to test, but unless there are glitches or bugs, the rules are fairly simple. It’s hard to give characters in SFV some hidden potential.
Making Sim into a character that puts most of his hitboxes in the air is cool and all but its still Street Fighter and most matches are gonna play out on the ground. Theres no super jumps, air blocking, air dashes or flight mode and not that many divekicks or air trajectory altering moves yet, so fights arent gonna be going on in the top half of the screen. Having all these options could be irrelevant if he doesnt have a good ground game. And his ground game does still look very lacking at the moment. He has the usual long range normals and anti airs but the frame data and other properties on them doesn’t look good this time. His walk speed is basically non existent which is one of the core reasons why hes a stationary character.
I think we’ve accepted his SFV moveset, now we just need them to experiment with the frame data and properties of it. It definitely has potential.
Make drill real good. Make normal’s cancel into yoga float. lower height restriction on yoga float. lp fireball land in front. With a good drill and teleport it can make a good, offensive Sim. And still be strong defensive.
Making characters fit the criteria of zoning or rushdown only is not good for gameplay variety… like fighting a good balrog who rushes like a mad dog vs a balrog who turtles… both effective and different to cater multiple play types.
Drill is the dive kick (I think the official name for it is Spear?). Mummy is similar to the drill but he dives head first and goes much slower. I think the mummy has been removed from SFV though.
FChamp might just be looking for a reason to drop Sim cuz he’s a Marvel head. I’m either not going to listen to his opinion, or trust his reports. And then UltraDavid comes in with the “No you’re wrong, but you’re pro so you’re not wrong” comment lol. I think the more complaining about Sim makes me more motivated to really pick him up.
Sim didn’t have that in any other SF game and it worked out somehow. That shit is a crutch for the game of SFIV and isn’t necessary in traditional SF.
I won’t be surprised at all if a well known Sim or 2 drops him. Hes pretty radically different and when you’re used to Sim playing a certain way that can be rough. Either way a new game means time for new people to become the best Sim players
I think Champ still might play the USFIV version of Dhalsim. With all do respect for his skills but this new sim is a different story. I want to see some good 3S players take a shot.
I rather listen to Champ than Dave. Respect to Dave but he hypes everything and is pretty much an unofficial Capcom employee or apologist. He just comes off as being neutral as possible while trying to not offend Capcom or something. Also it’s not just Champ but others think he’s weak/slow too. Sure he has more “mobility” options but his moves are slow and he gets around slow. So technically they are both right anyways.
Also Arturo seem to have the best results with him, and it looked like he was playing him the way he was meant to be played…yet he seem to still struggle. But they buffed Gief (i think) there’s no doubt they will continue to work on Sim.
I’d actually like to see a downward slope fireball that starts from head height. It could give him coverage of that mid-range that’s lacking right now, if it’s used wisely, without the full screen coverage of a no-meter horizontal projectile that they’re trying to avoid.
I think Birdie looks like the best defensive character in the game at the moment so I’ll try him out if I don’t like Sim. He has loads of good anti airs, has good mid range options and big damage. EX command grab to blow people up if they get too agressive. No real projectile outside of V Skill but luring someone into a banana, tripping them up and comboing off it looks sweet.
