Dhalsim General Thread: The Longer it Gets, the Harder it Hits

Backdash in the corner takes you to the other side of the screen

Well its a wishlist you can wish for whatever you want. Some of the concepts are good, but like said above Capcom would laugh at any attempt to give Sim all of those things at the same time. Time in the lab will easily offset needing most of those things

Pacman Sim Kreygasm

That last one…that could very well be a property of his vskill, and if it drained some V the longer he stayed at the borders of the…oh my god.
Being able to do stuff while in the air after the drill touches opponent, not as good as mvc2 sim obviously but eh, that will save the drill imo.
Drill target combos?

You guys are making me miss Anakaris all over again…
With every step closer Dhalsim goes toward becoming Anakaris, I get happier. VSav Anakaris is my favorite character of all time (despite tiers), so I will not be sated until Dhalsim gets a command throw and projectile absorb/copy.

his design is pretty obvious. he was made to have no mid-far range ground game and everything else. then you put down yoga carpet and boom he has a distance ground game.

You could probably abuse air back teleport + j.MP near corners too.

Dhalsim’s new forward throw is pretty great. He was given Sagat’s throws from SF4 in that they both provide distance.

Wow cancelling mk slide into V Trigger flame carpet looks really good. Looks like you can do it any point of the slide being in blockstun so you can now make it safe at any range and force a flame carpet on your opponent aswell.

Edit: ok you can actually combo into flame carpet if you hit them with mk slide and then you can juggle with a st.mk afterwards to reset them into the carpet perfectly. Then it looks like you get enough time for a free teleport to cross them up and either get a hit or keep them in blockstun all the while taking white health from the carpet. Happens here at 7:11:

Sim with combos makes me happy. Looks like he can get some nasty stuff in the corner.

Sim is a bit of a weird though. A zoner who wants to push you into the corner. With his movespeed, I wonder how you can achieve that reliably.

want to control the ground? Capcom wants you to burn resources to do it. Otherwise you’re going to be poking from weird angle and laying out hitboxes.

Does anyone know when Combofiend will be having a showing on demonstrating what Capcom had in mind with designing Dhalsim? We have had something for all other characters, so just curious.

Not sure. Has he even done anything for Laura or Gief? Seems like he’s been slacking on it. Either way I’m sure people will start figuring him out by the 3rd beta. A bunch of people going in is better than Combofiend IMO any way.

There a picture of the Dhalsim move card floating around? I haven’t came across one yet.

Eh honestly I feel dhalsim’s v-trigger is one of the better ones if he combo’s into it. That grey life is ridiculous and if he gets it into a teleport mixup legit fear.

Still not 100% sure on the rest of his moveset and grounded v-skill seems to have a lot of startup making it difficult to use.

I think that Dhalsim’s v-trigger could be really good, but I think that it deserves to be even stronger, and here is why:

There are 2 types of v-triggers so far:

  1. Enhancement of character’s moves
  2. Added moves to the character’s moveset

The line between these are kind of blurred with how Gief gets the vacuum, but also gets a better properties on armor that already exists, Rashid can enhance his existing moves with his v-trigger etc.

It’s easiest to compare Sim’s v-trigger to Rashid and Vega as they all have a one time use, but Dhalsim’s v-trigger is hsrder to use:

Rashid’s v-trigger is very hard to waste, as it has a hitbox, has huge vertical range and stays on screen for a long time. Rashid can also enhance all his moves with it at will.

Vega’s v-trigger is a complete combo extender, whiff punish or anti air in to good damage.

Dhalsim’s v-trigger is built around potential damage AND it is limited to a part of the screen. This means that it is very easy to waste his v-trigger. If Sim gets hit and comboed he might be carried far away from his flame carpet, and it’s wasted. Also even if they stay in the flame, Sim has to actively pursue a hit, making him vulnerable. Yes it lasts 10sec and is comboable, but the full use of the v-trigger isn’t there before you successfully remove white health with it.

The v-trigger has major potential in that it will only get better when the spacing game with Dhalsim gets figured out better and if Sim gets buffs to his normals, this will indirectly be a buff to his v-trigger as well.

I’m not even getting into the balance conversation until I get some hands on time with him in beta 3. I have to imagine he’ll have some changes by then.

I don’t really see how Sim’s Vtrigger can get any better without being broken, honestly =S

You can combo into it from confirmable combos, which is highly unusual for a setup-heavy instinct, getting guaranteed damage and white damage, and originating a setup situation for even more potential actual damage and/or forcing your opp to suck up a lot of white damage.

The pace at which white dmg builds is actually quite faster than I thought it’d be, too.

I’d much more easily bet on it getting nerfed, than buffed, but I’d just love it if they could leave it as it is (for now, at least), because it seems really good, but not broken (at least from the very limited time players have had to build tech).

^ Huh. At 2:24 looks like Art does a instant V-skill which results in a sudden stop in the air where he is, does an attack then floats back down. That seems much better than having to teleport to get that effect or having to commit to an instant air attack such as yoga sniper and having to deal with all the frames of the jump recovery. He demonstrates it a couple times later in the match around 4 minutes in.

Also looks like earlier in the video, far HP actually low profiles rather than only having a reduced hurtbox against fireballs.

I like that. Definitely shows there’s room to experiment with how you can use the V Skill. I’m thinking in the long run that’s how his mid range will work. A lot of V Skills cancelled into air normals or air yoga flame.

You can see Arturo still trying really hard to play SFIV Sim tho. LOL.

BTW is there any video showing Dhalsim building V Gauge with the V Skill?
EDIT: NVM, I just saw the j.HP cancelled Yoga Float build a bit of V Gauge (about 20 percent of a bar). Ok…now I think it’s starting to make sense as to why I didn’t see him build V Gauge before. I think before he was waiting for the Yoga Float to finish activating before throwing the normal. Now that he’s doing these cancelled floats into normals those actually count as doing a normal in Yoga Float.
