Dhalsim General Discussion

I’m expecting nothing but nerfs. Nothing serious, but he’ll get toned down.

No doubt Yoga Tower will get nerfed. It just seems to annoy people so much and Capcom has shown a tendency towards nerfing anything that might be considered annoying / a nuisance.

He’ll probably get a slight damage nerf as well. Nothing serious. His overall damage in AE output will be a bit higher than Vanilla but Lower than SSFIV.

My guess is that his back-command normals will be nerfed. Maybe they’ll tweak the frame data or maybe they’ll tweak the hitboxes or both, but I have the feeling Capcom deems Dhalsim too strong at close-quarters combat in his current incarnation.

After seeing what happened to Seth / Blanka, I’m pretty pessimistic.

At least you entered. I was going to do it, but a few weeks ago, I figured i’d be bogged down with homework. Sadly, I have found out I’m not. Which is a huge shame, since I’m sure T. Hawk was underrepresented. :frowning:

Dhalsim was cool in Street Fighter Victory.

I just want to let the Dhalsim thread know that I am praying that this character gets nerfed in AE. He is the most outrageously overpowered character in the game and deserves probably more than he will get. They toned down cammy (which wasnt even that bad of a matchup) so now it is time to drop that hammer on this character. Good luck trying to get wins with him now. It was the character that was racking them up for you, not your skill. bai

So is anyone excited about the changes that will be announced in a couple of hours?! It’s over midnight here in Norway, but I know I won’t be sleeping before I have read the translation of the AE changes to Dhalsim!:slight_smile:

It seems Dhalsim has gotten a lot of nerfes, but has gained some combo abilities! Not sure what I feel… It feels like he will be a weaker character… But who knows!

[Normals]
DB+MP has faster start-up + less recovery.
A combo such as DB+MP -> DB+MP -> EX Yoga Flame is possible.

[Specials]
EX Yoga Flame has faster start-up and is comboable from middle strength attacks.
Because it’s easier to combo into, the damage is changed to 50*70.

[Super]
Super’s damage is reduced to 300.

[Others]
During back dash, airborne frame comes immediately after invincibility frames end.

[Overall]
We looked through his damage again, and as a result he went towards nerf,
but there are changes beneficial to Dhalsim in other parts.
He has a huge diversity between a good match-up and a terrible match-up,
but he has strong potential in himself.

I don’t get the nerf to EX Yoga Blast. The move is pretty unreliable as it is: it comes out fast and has a big hitbox but its invulnerability sucks. You almost end up trading and like most Sim trades, it’s rarely in your favor. Specially considering regular Yoga Blast is probably the most useless move in Dhalsim’s arsenal and a contender for most useless move in the game.

db. strong having newly found comboability sounds delicious. It’s already possible to link Super off it in SSF4, though it’s a much tighter link than db. Fierce to super. I wonder if it’ll be hit confirmable now, as in db. strong x2, link into Super (in the corner). Or db. strong x2, link into flame, Super. That move is going to be as good as Ryu’s cr. strong now (unless they nerfed the hitbox). Maybe that’s why they decided to nerf Super damage as a trade-off.

Overall Sim is relatively unscathed compared to other high-mid tier characters. They didn’t really do much to address his bad match-ups (though I see db. mp helping him in the Rufus match-up since it’s part of his OS defense against dive kick spam) but at least his 5-5 and 6-4 match-ups won’t be much different in AE. They didn’t nerf b. lk and b. mk as I feared they would, and apparently Yoga Tower is unchanged.

I’m much more worried about T. Hawk, who didn’t really get anything other than EX Condor Dive. He is a potential contender for bottom of the shit barrel tier along with Blanka in AE.

Noone said anything about ex blast;) Ex flame is nerfed, probably because it is no comboable in many ways!

Currently, db. MP has a 6 frames Start-up. So I’m thinking they reduced that to 5 (+6 on hit?). I don’t think they’ll make it 4 frames on start-up like Ryu’s. That’d be to god-like, specially since the hitbox is longer than Ryu’s.

Along with EX Flame probably hovering at around 14 Start-up frames (it’s currently 17).

If that’s the case, not only will EX flame combo when cancelled off db. MP, but also of b. MK.

I think this changes are not so bad for Sim.
I prefer do less damage but have a new defending tool instead of otherwise.

db.mp xx db.mp xx flame EX seems good.
Probably the flame EX has the same LP startup but more range (I hope!).

The damage nerf is a non-sense. I agree 180 was too much, but 10 more than LP?!?
Probably db.mp xx db.mp xx flame lp will be not possible. Who will spend an ex bar for LESS than 10 more damage? lol
We still have flame mp to do more damage.

I don’t care much about super nerf damage, It’s still a great move and will still combo with u1, so it’s ok.

I’m thinking about punish combos:

In SSF4:
b.hp xx flame ex deals 70+180=250 damage
b.hp xx flame mp deals 70+140= 210 damage

(Probably) in SSF4 AE:
b.hp xx flame ex deals 70+120=190 damage
b.hp xx flame mp deals 70+140= 210 damage
db.mp xx db.mp xx flame ex 70+70+(120*0.8) = 236

db.mp xx db.mp xx flame lp 70+70+(110*0.8) = 228 (?)

I hope it will be this combo: db.hp, db.mp xx flame ex (266 dmg).
I also hope the db.mp changes will effect also the cancel into yoga flame: in ssf4 db.mp xx flame lp will not combo if the cancel is done at the last frame possible flame :confused:

Ok so now we can combo into ex flame that does lp flame damage… I don’t get it. Does ex flame have bigger hitbox than lp? So you could like fullscreen db.mp, b.mk xx ex flame or something where lp flame would wiff.

db.MP buff will come pretty handy since we’re facing even more divekickers in AE

I don’t know I’m just guessing his utility. I also don’t understand the need to waste an EX for nothing.
I hope the Ex flame startup will be even better than lp, so b.mk xx flame ex will be a real blockstring (this make sense to use it).
Or, better, I hope if ex flame will have some invincibility frames, but I don’t build my hopes up too high.

However can someone ask it on eventhubs?

The backdash means that if for example abel catches your backdash with a step kick, you will be reset instead of comboed.

I see OS tech+mp being pretty good in AE, but I agree with the dmg nerf on ex flame being a little drastic:P Yes it has more range, but not much.

This just in: Dhalsim has a slightly bigger hitbox on his light flame compared to ex flame…
I have the files with all the hitboxes. I don’t know what capcom is thinking lol.
