Devil May Cry!

Remember when you unlocked game content instead of having to pay for it? Pepperidge Farm remembers

I have pretty popular opinions for the most part (gaming wise, anyway). It’s just this game I seem to be in the minority on.

Thank you, that’s all I was asking for. You’re not just defending the game “just because” or to be a troll, you actually have your reasons and you stand by them. Whether or not I agree with them, however, is irrelevant.

I respect this.

Real Talk though, I’m not sure The Crow up there was cool even when it WAS cool. Shit.

VF5:FS was probably the best release anyone could have ever hoped for, in terms of pricing and features (dat online play and training mode), and even that didn’t really kickstart anything fantastic. I suppose if it was kept up to date internationally it would’ve gone better, or if Sega advertised and also promoted it amongst the community as much as Netherrealms did for MK it might’ve gone better, but like you said they don’t have the finances for it. Ultimately would you say that Sega would’ve been more profitable porting over every revision, including all the costs they would’ve had to make? I’m just entertaining the possibility that Sega made the correct business decision to not take the expense, even if it’s a dick move to the international VF community.

For Yakuza 5 I desperately hope there’s some sort of system to switch over to another character whenever we want, something like being able to call up your buddy Kiryu when you’re playing as Akiyama, and just switching over to Kiryu’s perspective. Or maybe you have to find them wandering around on the street and then you can tag out to their story. I hope it atleast builds towards something for the entire game so I don’t feel like all my progress got wiped when it switches perspectives. I can’t remember the number of times in Yakuza 4 I thought “wow that’s really cool, I wish this character had a full game”, which is a positive but also a massive negative.

Speaking of, Yakuza has one of the strangest lock on systems I’ve ever experienced. Atleast you can dodgestep without getting into stance in the PS3 games, because that was fucking stupid in the PS2 games

It’s hard to say what the right decision would be but I guess FS was the best move they could make financially. I still think their youtube antics are beyond stupid, why kill free advertisement? As for Yakuza 5 you play Kazuma Kiryu first instead of him being last like in Yakuza 4. The format is the same as Y4 so that might suck for you lol but I’m fine with switching over to different characters indefinitely.

I disagree with this. From what I have seen and played, there is no way that this reboot can compare to what I consider “the upper echelon of action gameplay”, which include the obvious Bayonetta, God Hand, Ninja Gaiden Black, DMC3 (mostly), and soon enough Metal Gear Rising. I believe that these games are much more intelligently designed for depth, variety, challenge and entertainment.

It may seem that DmC may fit along with these games, considering that it has gameplay elements straight ripped out of the previous DMC games, but in my opinion, DmC lacks the redeeming qualities that all of these games all have.

Many new aspects of the gameplay seems lazily designed, or designed for the lazy. The scoring system is flawed. The combo system easily allows you to do infinite combos. A lack of lock-on where it could be largely benefited from. “High level” play seems to be centered around doing long aerial chains, this quickly grows uninteresting as they are easy to do with a bit of practice. None of the weapons or moves strike me as truly interesting or fun to use. Considering that there are no multiple styles and that Dino uses 3 interchangeable weapons at once, they may have small movelists.

Many of the enemies have mediocre designs and don’t seem fun to fight. Most of them are just there for you to combo on. Only on Son of Sparda did they seem not braindead. Weapon oriented enemies was a dumb decision, especially with no hard lock-on. It has been rumored from reviews that the boss fights are lame as well, and judging that the one in the demo, that’s probably the truth.

This could be entertaining in the sense that beating up things up things for the sake of it (musou style) is fun, but IMO theres not much more appeal to it other than that. Combine the lackluster gameplay with the unappealing character, trashy story and cut scenes then you have yourself one recipe for buyer’s remorse.

What in the fuck did they do to vergil!!! That final battle was so ass!! It felt rush, “It was like yo dante i wanna be evil- Dante, nah fuck that vergil i just kicked mundus ass and you wanna be like him!! Vergil- Yes dante lets fight!! DERP!” I mean it didn’t go down like that but it went close to that! Noticing the pace the fight was taking, it looked alot like you were fighting the mission 7 vergil from dmc3. Even at that that fight had more going for it then this piece of shit so called last boss battle. Another thing so basically vergil just walks away like a bitch made pussy? How does that lead to the fall of vergil as the dlc states yes i understood he lost the fight. He didn’t even look like the fight fucked him up mentaly to the point where he goes bonkers. He just walks away with a " I loved you dante? o_O

Like many of you are stating i need to go back and replay all the vergil fights in dmc3 to get this bad taste out of my mouth!

All the boss fights have platforming and cutscenes.

Yea that was a pretty lame ending.

I think 3d platforming has been so horrible this gen. A lot of it is automated and there is no risk in it. From the demo of this game, the platforming wasn’t that special because it felt like GOW where you had a big window to hook your chain and so it’s hard to mess up. The thing is I know people can do way better, because even Shinobi on ps2 had moments where you had to pinball between enemies in mid air over a bit and doing the secret mission in dmc4 with the disappearing bridge, learning to use the enemies as platforms felt cool as hell, but I feel stuff like that is so under utilized.

Ugh, oh well. Y3 does drag a bit, so I suppose the pluses of this approach might outweigh the drawbacks. More shirtless rooftop fistfights please, just don’t make it dumb like Yakuza 2. God that fight was stupid, it wasn’t hard but I’m not down to just block and jab for 2 hours.

Apparently there’s no evidence that the youtube takedowns for the shining stuff was official Sega policy versus one overzealous employee abusing the company’s DMCA privileges. In either case there’s no reason why it should be happening, though.

Thankfully Sly 4 is out next month, was bumped up a week early, costs $40 bucks, and it looks fucking AWESOME.

[spoiler=WOW spoiler] that looked like the most sandbagged fight i have ever seen dante didnt even struggle at all vs vergil he just did his devil trigger hacks and stabbed him

i finally get to see how strong these 2 are they able to take a sword to the chest and walk away like its nothing

Holy shit that ending:eek:

It’s exactly the same BS but worse they couldn’t at least come up with something different. NT Masters of story telling, indeed :coffee:

Shotgun jc into air fireworks is fucking sexy. Pop up property for Revenant is probably one of my favorite changes.

good write up. it explains a lot of where your coming from, me personally i didn’t really feel like i was styling unless fighting the stuff with higher health that was trying hard to kill dante. something about being able to turn a situation from being wiped out extremely quick to clowning on a group of demons if your good enough was what i was about. i will be curious to get your impressions of the game as you play through.

one thing though is that skill in fighting games doesn’t really correlate that well to skills in other genre’s like action games.

edit: that style JC for shotgun was in previous games, glad to see it’s back. good dmg if you can hold them in place. what’s the 3rd gun? there was some pretty damaging swaps with snipers and rocket launchers you should attempt if they have either of those.

JC xx attack loops are so much slower, so sad.

Spoiler vid’s been taken down. That was quick…

damn i missed that DMC ending video capcom already took it down
