I hate to be the guy to pick out a single, small point but I’m not arguing the rest of the post but how the hell is baseball a Western thing/nod at all? Baseball hasn’t been Western for decades, it’s loved around the globe nowadays.
Baseball is really popular in Japan, God Hand had multiple baseball references (Homerun Swing, Wild Pitch) and Bayonetta references that. Play DMC4, pick Swordmaster Style, do that Crazy Dance to completion, he does a homerun swing there too. Yakuza series has batting cages, baseball bat items and a Heat finisher with the bat where they do a homerun swing to the guys face.
This would be like saying whatever is giving nods and showing how Western it is because whatever game has a boxer or boxing moves. Hajime no Ippo (Boxing Manga/franchise) is incredibly popular and has animay’d some well known boxing moves or signature styles of boxers like the Depsey Roll.
You’re going “cool, his attack looks like a baseball swing, so Western. Thank you Tameem!” and some kid in Japan thinks it’s animay as fuck because of how often baseball swing attacks show up. A baseball reference isn’t something only a Western studio would do.
megaman x yes, to an extent i believe while megaman makes a great plat former it makes a terrible everything else, so while i like what he said i dont think it can be applied to many things.
i also don’t agree with his views on sonic and zelda, and some other things
he said that dmc3 and dmc 4 were the same as one , but megaman did the same for megaman but dmc does it , its samey? i feel if your have treat sequels as a metaphor for the previous games in the series, you should t discriminate if a game does a good job of it , it did a good job.
he tends to say things that are smart, then ruin them by going back on them when its a game that’s not megaman or something
there is a show called extra credits that have some interesting stuff game design, aswell
and the Zero Punctuation guy has a written thing he does, thats sometimes interesting, when he isnt being a biased prick.

Now watching his reviews, I feel he’s slowly going insane. Like… his jokes are not even humorous, as they’re to the point where I ask myself, “What’s wrong with him?”
Sequalitis series is brilliant. Even if you don’t agree with some of the things he finds important in good game design, it’s a great example of looking at a game critically and learning how to teach through gameplay instead of through a tutorial.

Extra Credits is pretty shallow, but they do cover a lot of topics and ask interesting questions. Every segment they did on something I had knowledge of I’ve found kinda questionable, but I appreciate them covering a ton of stuff I haven’t seen discussed much.

VF5FS fizzed out quickly due to Sega withholding the earlier revisions. It almost killed the community, revisions are what keep people interested these days. Who wants to play vanilla VF5 when Version D,R# were being played in Japan? Not to mention FS being over a year old already so TBH that is what got them in trouble in the first place. Sega seems fractured, they make great games but they can’t get out of their financial hole. It is what it is I guess.
Okinawa is dope and I know Yakuza 5 has five cities to explore, I forgot if Okinawa was one of them but we will have a truckload to do. Haruka is a bunch of rhythm based games and weird talk show host question/answer scenarios. Good news is you still have four other traditional characters if you find her boring. I also hear you can skip a majority of the things available to her. I’m a Yakuza completionist so I will probably do everything lol.
Remember all those awesome FREE costumes in DMC3? Some of them even had special effects like play as Nelo fucking Angelo… Yeah those we’re the good days.
