Guys what did y’all think was gonna happen? Capcom games usually sell pretty well regardless of actual quality
It’s going to be like RE6/SFxT reviews all over again, I’m not surprised. Most reviewers are going to want to protect their ad money, so they are going to give it relatively high scores. Wait for the post-release reviews.
If it’s like RE6 all over again, then that’s a good thing. RE6 got scored relatively low across the board. And DMC is nowhere near as untouchable a franchise as RE is.
Trusting Famitsu’s opinion?
What… the… fuck…?
Wow, how does it feel to live in a world where you’re just completely oblivious to gaming journalism.
Do research… any kind of research. You’ve be surprised how a lot of review places are given money to talk highly of the game for a scores boost in order to increase sales. Because, ya’ know what, it works. When popular gaming sites give 8+ points on a video game, large chance that fans of that site will buy it.
Now, what people mean by “paid reviews” isn’t literally cash up front and you’re done. But more so that you’re already working under the company in some way, and having some paid salary.
A buddy of mine worked for EA was told to write reviews about Mass Effect 3 and to give “his opinion” on how he thought the Alpha build felt. Funny enough, he never touched the game. I’m sorry guy, but Famitsu is almost always paid for their reviews.
I forget the exact lines, but there is a popular line in gaming journalism to goes along something like:
"No, you can’t say what games are considered good, and what games you think YOU enjoy. You’re a gaming journalist, and as one, you’re opinion always comes last. If you, in anyway, voice you’re own words about a popular gaming company, then you’re fired. You have no right to tell me what game is “fun” and what isn’t."
And yes, people have been fired in the past for giving bad scores to popular games.
Stay free Kusanagi.

Hey! Capcom is into that shit. don’t blame NT for a shitty game. They’re literally giving Capcom what THEY wanted and not what WE wanted. They, NT, did at one point try to keep it DMC, BUT they still are not a excellent choice for this franchise. At the end of the day, NT is still getting paid and the final numbers once DmC hits is gonna leave them, Capcom, in the hole.
Let them rub that “shit” into their own chest while smart consumers like us avoid it, buy MGR and Bayo2, and still keep are integrity as gamers.
Famitsu always has been shady with reviews. They even had their own “Doritosgate” before. I think it was MGS Peacewalker that got a really good review but also one of the editors also appeared in an ad of the same game, which of course is just shady. They also made weird comments from time to time to justify their review scores.
you’re != your
anyway != any way
Guess you’re not a gaming journalist, or maybe you are.
I was referring to the general theme of pre-release reviews being fluffed artificially high, and then post-release reviews coming out with the real talk.
Well no one cares about pre-release reviews, or at least shouldn’t. It’s human nature for them to be fluffed high as you’re always looking for the optimism into how the game will be in the final build.
Publishers stopped straight up bullshit like paying for reviews, or only allowing you an early copy if you promised to give it more than their minimum score, but most of them will still stop sending review copies if you consistently hate on their games. The more broad problem is publishers treating the Metacritic aggregate as the end product, not the game itself, and that score plus sales numbers is all they judge a game by.
Be that as it may, I’m enjoying the hell outta Peace Walker.
Whether reviews agree with my thoughts or not, they are all still horseshit to me. CoD is a 10/10 every year.
Also, a certain person working for Capcom Japan already made me smile.
Hmmmmmmm, didn’t care to notice. I just typed in whatever, hit post, and called it a day. Still I appreciate the corrections.
And no, I’m not a gaming journalist. Fuck that.
Oh…?
Saying that taking depth away from your franchise in order to get it to sell is one of the most retarded things I’ve heard. You can still make a game easily accessible but deep in higher levels of gameplay. That’s the best part about the DMC franchise, at least when it came to DMC3:SE and DMC4 with the more lenient difficulties. In Bayonetta, you could still do fairly well doing basic stuff through normal.
There really isn’t any reason why DmC can’t be as deep as the previous titles; Capcom/NT just need to find a good balance between accessibility and depth. Dumbing down the game is NOT the answer.
case in point the featured ad video on that website is for the DmC vergil DLC
Is anyone here honestly suprised that this game is getting 9/10s?
As someone here said the reviewers aren’t going to look to see how much depth the game has or how it’s taken a dump on the Devil May Cry name. Infact there more likely to say something like ‘People should get over the hair’ in their reviews and maybe throw in the words ‘nostalgic’ and ‘fanboys’ just because they’ve read a couple of articles praising the game and giving anyone with a different opinion the middle finger. This game is a reviewer’s wet dream and is going to get 9-9.5/10 from IGN.
I really hate the terms the industry uses now cause really, it kind of scares me.
Like how the people making Dark Souls 2, home boy went about saying, “we want to make this installment to focus more on a wider audience”.
YO, YOU BETTER TELL ME WHAT THAT MEANS?!!? [/panic]
