Yeah, I’m sorry RE6 is a definite step down, and this is coming from a guy who always tends to defend as many things as possible. RE6 was just mediocre. At least I wanted to go back and play RE5 if for nothing else, than for Mercenaries. I don’t even have that feeling for RE6.
As for Capcom botching up the Fighting Games, it only matters because people don’t want to stick to games they actually like. YOU’RE to blame more than anyone.

Also, someone mentioned Megaman. A Gears of War-style Megaman X9 would make me man-moist. I also loved both Mario 2 and Zelda 2.

I just don’t see what was fundamentally wrong with Resi 1 through 3. Sure update the controls but what was wrong with the gameplay? Nothing. In fact I’m sure today’s audience would eat that shit up. It’s exactly what they want. A cinematic, controlled, claustrophobic experience with sluggishly moving characters. Hell it worked for the FPS genre.
and if people stopped liking those games then stop making them. It’s very cynical to just slap the name on your mediocre attempt at a 3rd person action shooter. If capcom says that there’s no market for technical 3rd person action brawlers and therefore they won’t make the investment towards DMC5, I’d accept that. Don’t slap the DMC name on Heavenly Sword 2 and call me ungrateful for noticing the difference.
Dude, that is cheap as HELL. Games here come out at $100-110 retail. Big W obviously isn’t very sure of DmC selling. That or it’s part of a post Christmas sale.
I call bullshit on that. If Capcom had said that from the jump, people would have pitchforks and pretty much would be telling Capcom to go fuck themselves. Not saying you specifically would do that but you get what I mean.
Edit: Of course there’s a market for action games. Pretty sure God of War III, Bayo, NG/NGS2 all sold millions of copies individually. DMC4 sold millions, too. How has the DMC HD Collection sold so far?

Well people would be pointing out that it was Capcom’s own damn fault for losing most of its capable talent over the years and not really having the infrastructure or vision to make the equivalent of DMC1 or DMC3 for today’s gaming market. I wouldn’t be patting Capcom on the back for mismanaging itself into irrelevance, but I wouldn’t find their incompetence personally insulting.
For example, if they never announced a new megaman game and just accepted that 2D platformers aren’t as significant as they were a decade ago, it would’ve been sad but not rage-inducing. They made sure to say a personal fuck you to all the remaining megaman fans before showing them the door, and that’s how Capcom rolls nowadays.
I like to think that if Platinum Games was still Clover Studios that Vanquish would’ve been Megaman X9.
