Japan worshiping has always been dumb. Though this game didn’t need a western feel to begin with since it was already doing better in the west than east. If capcom (or Ninja Theory) wanted to do a more western game, they were better off just making a new action adventure and letting DMC take a seat in the back. Not like anyone would be any more mad than now. I don’t really agree at all on the “western dev fucking up Japanese glory” nonsense as most of the games western devs got hands on that are from the east aren’t even that vast to begin with. But it’s clear that most of the big heads all over the gaming industry say the East are falling behind. (minus Nintendo who seem to have a hack for keeping their mascots stay fresh with the same stuff over and over and people eat it up like it’s really new.)

The big thing here that’s affecting most is that DMC didn’t need a reboot or a westernized feel. The game was already big and selling big (if people want to believe it or not.) If this was billed as a new game by Ninja Theory, there would be cleary less hate (obviously), people would either care or not care, and everyone who’s had past experience with Heavenly Sword would still be weary to care or not.

I wholeheartedly agree that DMC didn’t need a reboot or a deviation from its narrative norm. Granted, my only experience with DMC is watching other people play it and having seen the 12 episode anime (which wasn’t terrible, surprisingly enough), but it always smacked of “we know it’s over the top and not only do we not care, we celebrate it.”

This reboot smacks of taking The Naked Gun and making a Bourne movie out of it, or of taking Transformers and trying way too hard (and unfortunately succeeding) to get it taken seriously (Michael Bay’s fucking terrible). Dante doesn’t need to be “real.” He needs to have guns, a sword, say something about how “it’s going to be one hell of a party,” eat fucking ice cream, alienate the women in his life, and be fucking Dante.

See, for me and I suspect several others it isn’t “OMG these Westerners are ruining the majestic Japanese title!!!”, it’s “Oh fuck Ninja Theory sucks ass and they’re remaking a game that didn’t need remaking”.

That I understand, and that’s what I thought you and a lot of others were saying. I was targetting the people who are getting a little too… ethnocentric.

For example of Western companies taking Japanese IPs and making them epic and awesome, see Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Metroid Prime.

I pray to Dr. B every day that Lords of Shadow is a good game.

Hello all foreign fans. Recently I got lots of comments like “Dante has changed”, and someone said I was not too fond of newest Dante. But it’s not true.“Dante has changed”…that’s right. But from my point of view Dante has changed every time the sequel came out, and he was always different from whom I created first. So why don’t you wait and see how their new trial will be same as usual…? (sorry about my poor English )

He’s right. Dante always changed. Different face. Different costume, different DT form, different(varying degress) personality. But they all had something in common. Traits from Dante’s appearance. Sliver hair and the red and black costume. You can pretty much look at all the past Dantes and say “Yeah, that’s Dante.” Not everyone even likes the appearance of each Dante. It’s not even about shit like silver hair. I have no issue with the black hair. I’m not even going to say his trash talking is removed because this new Dante could be a complete asshole who talks shit to everyone. The backlash towards his appearance is simple. You don’t look at DMC5 Dante and say “Yeah, that’s Dante.”

Real talk. You could just take DMC3 Dante or modify him a bit to look more serious/angry. Some black jeans, black or white(like this Dante) tank top. And a red and black jacket. A simple look just like the new Dante. Even with the black hair and people would have said “Yeah, that’s Dante.” They introduced a character that looks so damn different that people don’t even recognize him.

As for gameplay, people don’t like Ninja Theory. So yeah people aren’t really confident with them handling DMC5. I, along with others, will try it and maybe even buy it if I find it good enough of a game. Yeah, some people are jumping the gun by outright denying the very existence of game before seeing gamplay but I doubt they’ll stop keeping their eye on it.

Industry is being kinder than fan are lol! Anyway just wait until you see Gameplay. JGONZO over at the Capcom Boards said it looks AMAZING. Hopefully he’s right and not just saying what he’s supposed to say LOL, but he’s a pretty honest guy and I’m inclined to trust him, for now…

So would I. Given the context of the trailer, it would make sense. His scrawny look still bothers me though. :lol: It’s still pretty obvious that the guy’s design is pretty much based off of Ninja Theory’s head guy or whoever he is. If this is true, then the only thing to really be worried about is the fact that it’s developed by Ninja Theory.
