Ehh, I think Dante showed emotion plenty in DMC3 and 4, especially near the end of 3 (Before and after the Lady fight, Vergil battle aftermath, credits, epilogue). 4 seemed like Dante perhaps letting go of the memory of his brother, or perhaps passing his lineage on to Nero (and I’m still ticked they never continued with the Dante/Nero/Vergil dynamic).
As for Dante being untouchable, seemed fitting really. I said this before, but I feel at that point in Dante’s life, he’s accepted his lineage and knows exactly who he is and what he’s capable of, and pretty much went into Fortuna to have some fun. In my opnion.
You actually do fight the devil in the gba games. In Circle of the Moon he was in that colosseum thing where it was like a boss rush and you had no mp. But the cheap way to beat him was chug a potion and input you’re summon dss spell like cockatrice to kill him easily if you didn’t want to actually work for your kill. I also believe he was a boss in harmony of dissonance, though he wasn’t hard at all but just cursed you.
I felt LOS’ adventuring had more in common with the Prince of Persia series than GOW/Dante’s Inferno, but most of LOS’s simple combat tricks worked exactly the same in GOW: X,X,X, dodge, X,X,X dodge. It expanded on GOW’s slight adventuring bits(to the point of becoming redundant), but otherwise followed a similar style: It’s a combat system that doesn’t require much depth, because it isn’t particularly necessary at any point. I don’t want NG/DMC turned into that style of game, but when Capcom announces DMC’s development is “Under New Management!!!”…I doubt it’s because they want Ninja Theory to make things more…uh…complex?
I’ll say it again. Why are people called whiners for not trusting in a development house that has never made a well received title with the premier action series of the last two console generations? Especially when said development house has the balls to change things so dramatically when they only games that they are known for is a boring auto platformer that was $20 two months after release and a shitty God of War clone.
If you played the DMC games and played any of Ninja Theory games, you’d be worried, unless you like cutscenes, story and voice acting more than gameplay.
Enslaved and Heavenly Sword demos are still up on PSN, try them. Both games are sluggish and Enslaved doesn’t let you mess up the jumping parts of the game (effectively playing itself).
DMC can only be described as a single player fighting game. The controls were fluid and responsive and the only limit is your imagination and dexterity.
I hope I’m wrong and DmC is good but I’m not getting my hopes up. NT should just make RPGs or CG movies instead.
These mechanics were actually put in the game on purpose and it runs at 60 FPS… this game ran on its own engine…
Ninja Theory is using the Unreal Engine… do you really fucking think that this game will run at any thing above 30 FPS… and do you really think that Ninja Theory will really pay attention to the nuances of the combat system in play… more than likely the combat will be clunky, and you will see more than a fair share of QTEs…
The Cutscenes don’t even have that coolness factor the DMC cutscenes have coolness factor, the cutscene that they showed us looks like shit, and I saw a little slowdown just from him smashing some rocks up…
They always say the games a work in progress to cover their asses and when legit questions got asked, they ignored them and went towards the stupid ones…
You can have fun playing this steaming pile of dog shit, this game will never see a dime of my money… as a result of this game tanking, another DMC game will probably never see the light of day, but at the end of the day money talks and bullshit walks…
And I hope Capcom never pulls this shit again after “Crackheads May Cry”…
Well it wouldn’t hurt to give em a shot dayum. LOL. You’re probably right and that the shit is ruined compared to what it used to be unless they listen to the kids over at CapcomUnity or something.
Every time I try to type a lighthearted post, it comes out angry when it comes to this game…
Why are they even using Tony Redgrave’s name when this was supposed to be Ninja Theory’s game? It keeps going from reboot to prequel every time they’re asked…
As much “original” as they are, they could change the name to Tony Illsuckyodickforadollar just so people don’t know that they are trying to cover their ass due to the fan response…
THEY TOOK THE E3 TRAILER THEY PUT UP THERE OFF OF YOUTUBE, AND AT FIRST THEY GOT RID OF THE LIKE/DISLIKE BAR
CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT SHIT?
Ninja Theory likes to jack a bunch of ideas from other games(well more God of War clones than anything) as much as they claim not to and call it originality and innovation… Chief of Design put his fucking face on HIS CHARACTER…
Seriously I hate everything about this company… they haven’t made a good game, YET…
But then again, shoutouts to Capcom for giving this series to them to run into the ground… NT just needs to hurry up and go bankrupt…
Here is my little rant, in case anyone cares to read it…
I never minded the character redesigns as much as the next person. As bastardized as the original Devil May Cry’s creation process was, theres not much that I would consider “faithful” when its time to go in a new direction. Although I didn’t think it was necessary for a reboot, I could very well picture the DMC4 team releasing another Devil May Cry game and it turn out being stale, so i remained open minded. I also felt like the reboot was a missed opportunity to explore other characters such as Trish and expand the DMC lure. My only concern was the track record of ninja theory.
The fan backlash in 2010 was something I didn’t pay attention because there have been examples of excellent games that had backlash because it was just something the fans were not use to (Wind Waker, Metroid prime) and games that had reimaginings a few years past due (Resident Evil 4).
Fast forward to 2011 and all the fan’s backlash is turning more and more understandable…The gameplay footage is horrendously slow and looks like a down grade. My gripe now is how I think the fans are directing their hate in the wrong direction, Ninja Theory is only the soldiers of a real shitty general. Capcom is clearly fucking up on all levels, they didnt handle the PR correctly on introducing a new Dante, judging from the gameplay footage they are clearly not even looking over the development process like they should. Then when you look at the other stuff they are doing with other games, they’ve been continuously dropping the ball for the past 2 years.
This game looks like complete trash and I won’t be surprised if it tanks. Who the fuck is going to find this scrawny ass meth-head appealing at all? I haven’t seen a lick of the charming tone or atmosphere that I love in the proper DMC games, and I’m going to just assume that the actual game will function as a painfully clunky imitation of the real DMC titles. Good fucking job trying to reinvent a series that didn’t need it in the first place, Capcom.
what annoys me the most is that even with this -overwhelming- response, capcom and ninja theory are still insistant on going on ahead with this. It’s like they’re pretty much saying 'well we’ve come too far to change anything now. You people are going to suck this up anyhow because it’s Devil May Cry."
UMVC3 = honestly really? And no Megaman in the game
New SF game = is going to be SF Alpha 4 and not SF 5??
MML3 = not living up to the promises
DmC = make reboot game so that a movie can be made based from it
Capcom isn’t known for making smart decisions until they get burned. This is for the money. Damn all you people falling into the trap “Oh it won’t be that bad.” It shouldn’t have had to happen in the first place.
