Dev blog Gouken changes AE 2012

Don’t really see any changes from what we already know beside crouching hp +1f hitstun…

However, the good part is that, all our worst match up, the twin, Makoto, Akuma, Fei, all much easier now. Plus our slightly difficult match up like Adon, Blanka, Cammy, El Fuerte, all didn’t really receives that much buff. So our most difficult match up got much easier, somewhat disadvantage match up got some what easier…

I don’t see any draw back. Beside losing current HP palm I don’t see any nerf.

EDIT: going through this… Cody and Guy are going to be difficult… They didn’t get as much buff as we do, but they are stronger to begin with. Dudley might also be a concern. His jumping normal have HUGE active frame now.

Cody is fine, believe me, nothing they did really affects his wake up and it sucks worse than twilight. If you have trouble against him you have to improve your attack. I’m not saying it’s easy, but it’s definitely not going to be any harder.

Man Guy is going to be a pain in the ass more then ever before.

All the anticipation for nothing. This is basically just a finalization of all the changes that occur through time during the Alpha/Beta phases. Dissapointed.

Are you so sure? Just his walking speed alone seem like huge buff for him considers that was like his only real weakness. He have decent wakeup game with FADC-able EX Zonk Knuckle. He even have a special wake up attack. Sure, baitable but you can’t stuff it. Overall his wake up is not worst then Gouken.

meh, back to skyrim. this game is now relegated to way on the bottom of fun time priority.

Cody does not have a better wake up than Gouken.

16 frame startup on Zonk means you can jab and recover or safe jump blind and he has no chance of hitting you and he can only FADC using three bars for no chance at anything other then to go to neutral.

Bad spray is 25 frames of start up.

Makoto’s not that much easier, unfortunately. Nothing about her frame data changed at all, just some slight damage reduction and a health nerf. A bit easier, yeah, but you’ll still have to play the match exactly the same as before. You’ll just have a slight bit more leeway in making mistakes.

tiers in 2012 should be condensed a decent bit.

With Gouken firmly on the bottom.

Well, he’s bottom right now, I feel he’s only getting better, albeit not much, and some of problematic characters are getting worse. End result is that we’re much better off than we are right now. Hopefully the distance between A tier and D tier is substantially small enough that the entire cast is viable in any setting, whether it be casual or tournament settings. Hopefully there is no S tier.

Pretty much all I would say. Long as there are no S tier. I am happy. I don’t mind if Gouken is still D. Which, by the look of it, at least C or even B in my opinion. I think his changes are so large (along with the other characters), that until we play it out we really have no way to tell how good he is compare to the rest

Some got nerfed, but not in any way that I can see affecting the matchup with gouken. Other problematic characters got buffs.

I do agree that not much will have changed in some of the bad matchups, yun for example, I’m sure will still be a bad matchup for gouken. sagats, bison, rog are still bad, some of those characters got better, we did too, not sure by how much right now as we can only play theory fighter till the 13th I guess.

I though the devs had no way to make him worst for SSF4: I was wrong.

But i’m thinking the devs have no way to male him worst for SSF4AE2012: … I don’t know why but i’m sure i am wrong also…

Demon flip (overhead), palm (perfect range), kongo (easier to use) and hado (decent damage) were all ok in SF4. why did they change them !? In the same time, no fix for the fucking tatsu, no c.mp x hadoken, no decent wake-up option, … Seriously, i’m maining gouken since SF4 but i clearly don’t want to play this game anymore.

I think Gouken will now be my alt

Sad, but some chances were missed… There could have been so many possibilities to help him.

just mentioning a few:

  • similar far.MK 2hit version like Oni (almost the same animation) => focus break and solid poking tool
  • changes to far.LK (faster, hit adv., cancellable) => if made right could be a very good poke
  • similar to Akuma, make his EX demon flip cancellable in airtatsu (prefereable ex version) => escape option for one EX (much better but still not unpunishable)
  • faster, better cr.LK for crouch tech
  • horizontal 2hit version of EX HADO
  • etc.

I was silently hoping for more changes, but nevertheless the fixes and buffs seem solid and I am eager to try out and experiment on new combos and set ups around far.MP, new/old MP Palm, Super (even if rare) and particularly Ultra2. U2 changes sound very promising and could be the Ultra of choice for some MUs.

Looking forward to training room on Dec. 13.
