Dev blog Gouken changes AE 2012

Basically, Akuma vs. Gouken revolved, in part, around the fact that Gouken could do nothing about Akuma’s Demon Flip Palm. Since it used to be an overhead, you couldn’t crouch block, and you can’t focus or high-parry it because it’s an armor-breaking move. Removing the Overhead portion of it makes it easier to block not only the palm, but any followup (some Akumas like to whiff DF Palm to low short or throw, it’ll be easier to crouch tech).

As I understand it, It was possible to use crouching Short to avoid a meaty Demon Flip. While this did not allow for a punish, it softened the danger of that particular situation. Gouken was also able to use an EX or Short Tatsu to beat a non-meaty/late Demon flip punch.

i wonder if we can (c.hp xx fadc > u1) after these changes.

Hmm… All our worst match up currently. Akuma, Blanka, Adon, they all have completely fireball invincible moves that will escape projectiles without needing to guess at all. Dinjin change is next to pointless.

I like the idea of a LP having bigger hit box and Parry having bigger hurt box though.

If Gouken, like the blog say, is one of the most changed character then there must be more then just these three changes.

I’ll miss those beefy hp fb > hp palm juggles. But I guess it’s worth it for the new changes, and perhaps those ranges can be filled with dash >mp palm?

Yea, I’ll miss those whole 10 points of damage too. Nah I cant wait for the new MP palm

If the LP Palm has a little more range wouldn’t that mean that hit confirm into LP Palm might be possible?

It’s not 10. It’s the 130 other points you miss out on by not being able to reach.

Yeah, from cl.st.mp but with new mp palm you don’t need it.

I don’t wanna be the dark cloud here, but before we start jumping around crazy happy(not saying anyone is), we need to know how far is the lp palm extended forward and how big are the kongo hitboxes now. Does it really make a difference? we’ll have to wait.

As for denjin, I’m lovin’ it.

The Akumas are some salty cats right now! They are crying about how much time they spent learning stuff, more like xcopying. Now they have an opportunity to learn stuff haha.

Crying about palm overhead, welcome to our fucking world son!

Must really suck going from mindless guessing gameplay to having to think. They keep whining about getting sent down a tier. Life must be good, we’re just trying to GET to the tier they think they’ve been sent to.

It’s not completely useless, it still combos off c.lk, which would be more useful if we could combo off of overhead.

I’m still confused. You can combo one c.lp into LP Palm. But after a couple of more jabs LP Palm won’t connect. I thought that was a function of the distance traveled/hitbox on the LP Palm. If the hitbox has more range now why wouldn’t hit confirm with lights into LP Palm work?

I think it woulda been better if they stuck with vanilla palm spacing but let the old lp one combo like the new one does now. They could just give it more active frames which start up earlier and then slide forward or something.

I hope that where they say “Gouken is the most changed” they are not just referring to the bunch of input changes/speed ups on the Denjin.

OK… these I don’t understand. I pretty much haven’t touched AE. Seriously.

Did his Denjin Hadoken input get changed to 360? Also, what do they mean by “super” Palm?

Apologies for the nub questions - just not familiar with what’s been going on with him since the nerfs.

so is ultra 2 gonna be worth using now? and what do you guys think about the new palms did they get better or worse…

Ok let me explains. Ultra 2 input did not change, 360 means if you do a 360 on your joystick in the ultra animation sequence after it activates, the fireball will come out faster then normal. So basically you have a mini mix up game build in to force opponent to block the fireball cause they don’t know if they can jump over it.

Ultra 2 will be useful depends on how fast the speed increase is like.

If it is as fast as Ex Sonic boom, that would means you can do any palm hit => ultra2 without FADC anywhere remotely close to corner. Without charge the damage is still pretty crappy, but at least it is usable now. It also mean we can get Parry FADC => Ultra 2.

Ultra 2 also have a very high hitbox, against Rufus, honda it might be a viable jump in punish. Or simply neutral jump punish from afar if it is fast enough.

It also might punish blanka ball and honda headbutt, but the exact speed increase is still unknown so we are not sure.

If all these become some what true, Ultra 2 might just become better since it give Gouken a lot more options and make opponent fear more. If it can wall bounce off the ground, it might become the Ultra of choice, since damage is not a huge concern when you can add a Tatsu / palm of your choice after.

Everything else added is kinda weak. We are hoping Gouken to be a viable option against top players in tournament but I don’t think this is enough. We will need at least a hit confirm from c.lk or fast ex reversal to punish wrong timed safe jump. Look like we won’t have it still. Our struggle will continue, but it won’t be so much a struggle, rather then annoyance.

Ah ok, got it. Thanks.

Gouken’s still back.

…but still, what does “super” palm mean? Not an EX right?

Palms have been changed to the follwing:

Lp palm: same point blank palm, better hitbox
Mp palm: changed to go the distance of the original lp palm from vanilla and ssf4
Hp palm: changed to o the distance of original mp palm from all previous games

Also, I don’t think being able to hit confirm into 400 damage with one ex bar is a weak change.

EVERYTHING is going to center around cl.st.mp now and your ability to hit confirm.

Off a xup you’ll be looking at hitconfirm into ex palm, Tick kara throw, tick walk forward a frame kara backthrow, CH set ups, and block strings into flip or fireball. All off of your ability to properly and quickly hitconfirm from cl.st.mp

Hard Kick GF slide normally works in those situations.

So akumas nerf doesn’t ,help us at all. lets hope lp palm combos from max range cr.lk, I’m not optimistic though. The cr hp hit stun Increase is great news. I hope Denjin is viable to use over shinsho now, sounds like it might be.
