Dev blog Gen changes AE 2012

Dev blog UP

GEN

  • 2nd last hit of EX Roll has additional +1 hitstun, so FADCing it gives +8 advantage
  • MANTIS focus hit -> forward dash is even
  • CRANE focus block -> forward dash is even
  • EX Oga follow-ups have 150 dmg
  • EX Oga far kick follow-up has faster travel speed, can follow-up with even more attacks (I’m guessing easier connect into crane cr.HP)
  • crane cr.MK is -1 on block, +1 on hit. Reduced hurtbox.

What the hell? What happened to the stuff we asked for. No ex oga invincibility, old jumps, tc2- hk gekiro, mantis u2 buff…

EX Roll FADC Mantis Ultra 2 connects. Expensive though.

" [EX Oga]: Damage increased from 100->150. Variation of the move [Far Kick] during EX is now faster, and a hit allows for further combo opportunities."

EX Oga being faster, doing more damage and allowing more combo potential? Awesome. May be able to do Mantis Ultra 2 off EX oga now, too.

Crane changes galore. I’m quite happy with these changes in addition to Alpha’s. We got a lot of buffs in a number of areas, some small and some decent.

yeah they are OK changes i guess, but really I was expecting some more relevant changes… :frowning:

I’m slightly interested about mantis focus having 3f more hitstun, then crane focus having 3f more blockstun.

So random.

The FA changes confuse me. Normally level 1 FAs have equal hit stun and block stun. Considering Gen is currently at -3/-3 after a level 1 FA, it will be an interesting new way to get in.

Same thing with the faster EX Oga. If it has more combo potential, that normally means faster recovery, which could also mean it’s safer on block? I would also hope for a reliable EX Oga to Crane U2. It really depends how fast it is though, we need to see it.

EX Roll FADCs? Well, the only thing worse than Mantis U2 is a scaled Mantis U2.

Son, I am disappoint. This was absolutely nothing that the Gen community had been asking for.

Maybe new cross-up Oga setups, but that’s all I see. At least Crane C.mk will be a good frame trap/poke now.

I guess Mantis focus is -3/0 and crane focus is 0/-3 now. Hilarious lol

EX Oga… might be safer, but it still goes way too high on the wall.

YES WE FINALLY HAVE A LINK INTO A MANTIS SWEEP WITHOUT OGA OR CRANE CR.LK. Meh I’m not so hyper.

I wonder how much crane cr.MK’s hurtbox reduced. Maybe fireballs became even easier to dodge? Or projectile invincibility on the whole body? IDK.

i like the ex oga buff. if it punishes fireballs on reaction instead of prediction, i’ll be ecstatic. crane crmk buff should make it better for going under moves as an AA. you can use it this way now, but im pretty sure its negative as hell on hit

the rest of the shit is whatever. lvl 1 FA buffed? thanks for that capcom

IIRC it’s currently -1 on hit and -3 on block.

I’m wondering how they improved the frame advantage: Will it be the increased blockstun/hitstun? OR reduced recovery? Hmm…

I really have lost faith in Capcom’s game-testing capacities. These changes are uninformed and stupid.

O btw, +8 is not only EX, it’s for all versions.

Right after the dev blog they posted a pdf file where it listed all the changes.

It says: +8 after FADCing Roll’s 2nd last hit, for all versions INCLUDING EX
Mantis focus +3 hitstun
Crane focus +3 blockstun
crane cr.MK as stated
EX Oga damage to 150, movement speed increased (didn’t specify which version here)

Actually we should be quite happy that we’ve only seen buffs and no nerfs at all. I’m quite happy with the changes, but since Gen’s meter-building is still pretty crappy, there’s also the dilemma of whether to use all those EX bars or save for Super… Gen’s comboability into Supers and just Crane super itself is so amazing that many times I just can’t bring myself to use those EX bars.

I’m really trying not to get frustrated with these changes. Cuz we may find some awesome technology that is pretty legit. However, on paper they look like bone head changes. I’d take less changes for different buffs. I have mixed feelings about the FA1 Buffs. Most FA cancelling is done in Mantis, kinda seems like it should be the other way around.

EDIT: Actually the FA1 Mantis change is pretty huge. It’s -21 on hit according to SRK. Seems extreme. Is that accurate?

I have no problems building meter with him now that I use more Crane s.Strong/s.Fierce

I’d take not-so-important buffs rather than nothing or nerfs, as already mentioned.

Think of it this way: At least we have a FA1 that’s even, though we have to use different versions according to what they are doing. At least crane FA might be less useless now, it’s been a long time since I used that.

And that -21 is when you don’t cancel into forward dash. On FA1 forward dash Gen is -3 on block/hit

Wait. his crane st.MP on hit builds same meter with mantis st.MP on hit, and same thing goes to crane st.HP and mantis sweep. I don’t have meter-building issues either, but I don’t think I quite understand how that helps your meter build. Please enlighten me.

I guess I should’ve explained it a bit more. I wasn’t claiming they build more meter. But switching them up, you’d have more success landing something than just using Mantis s.Strong pressure that in most cases just get blocked. It’s great for pressure and I do use it a lot as well. But I mix it up so I’m landing hits. I didn’t use them as much as I do now, and I find I build a hell of a lot more meter now and make people guess am I going high or low, then use crouching Mantis normals to mix it up. Or just walk up and block or throw to once again add more guessing.

I find a lot of Gen’s don’t use those Crane moves that often. I’m not saying spam them or telegraph them, but use them more. Especially after air-to-airs as meaty attacks.

Ah okay, I got what you mean, thanks. I do use overheads quite often, but not the underhand. It’s a short-ranged low attack that is too slow for my liking.

It works really well vs non-mashers if you do an air-to-air. Give it a try.

I shall try that after reset. Thanks.

Back to the changes, I realized that the buff I’m most happy about from today’s list was crane cr.MK buff. Even better now, but how would the hurtbox change? Horizontally? Vertically? Invincibility on head, period? Speculation shall never end
