Man i have to agree with whoever said that crucible doesnt give you shit when you do good. I just went 21-6 and didnt get shit to show for it. While the other players that got much lower k/d’s were getting engrams / legendary engrams etc… Im going to do a test. Suck at crucible and see what stuff i get.
Speaking of tests. I’ve found that the Blink on Bladedancer is effectively useless unless you have a sprinting start. I tested by putting my back to a wall and then jumping+blinking and looking at the distance I moved relative to a certain piece of nearby scenery. If you jump straight up and then blink, you move about a few inches. A foot at best. If you jump and hold forward while you blink, you get about 2-3 feet. I couldnt test sprint blinking by myself though conclusively but it seems to grant a fair amount of distance. About 4-5 I’d say with my best estimation. IMO it is not an effective combat tool since you are not sprinting during combat, and moving 2 feet will not help with anything that I can think of. Also bear in mind that there is a sizeable amount of startup and recovery frames where you cant do anything else. Stick to double jump
EDIT: @Vestax there is nothing special in my GT. MJR Poltergeist
Borderlands/Diablo: Kill a boss ,Loot Explosion, Beams of light and instant gratification
Destiny: Kill a boss, get an item in your inventory. Wait 30 seconds for a countdown to end. Load into results screen. Hold a button to exit the screen for 10 seconds. Load into your ship. Set Destination. Select Tower. Wait for a loading screen to finish. Load into city. Walk across to the engram guy. Hold a button. Select your item. BAM see what you got
Of course Destiny is trying to bill itself as an MMO not a loot grinder, but still, it doesnt feel nearly as instantly gratifying
Destiny is 100% a loot grinder. They give us things to do that require well beyond level 20, and tell us we have to get gear to ascend that high, but make drops with exceptional amounts of light basically non existent. It’s a loot grinder. I also agree that it’s very unsatisfying to kill a boss and see glimmer and a house banner pop out. You guys remember Borderlands 2 where in Campaign of Carnage where you kill a god damn Metal T-Rex Tank and a million things pop out accompanied by “LOOOOT SPLOSIOOOOOOOOOOOON!”? That was satisfying as hell. This game it’s like “Here’s a decoherent engram. Enjoy spending your ascendant shard on upgrades for legendary equipment you dont own yet.”
You open a Port-o-Potty in the game and sniper rifles jump out of the toilet at you. Borderlands absolutely throws shit at you. It kinda takes it slow at first but before you know it you’re rolling in drops for nade mods, relics, color option, heads, all kinds of shit. Destiny does exactly that, with the exception of bosses, but you never get that satisfying legendary drop for killing a Ridiculous boss on a really high difficulty. Destiny throws bread crumbs at you while dangling a Turkey dinner 5 stories above you. Shit dude all my weapons are from the Crucible too. Nothing useful has come out of PvE. I still like the game but I cant act like im not getting frustrated with it right now.
EDIT: In borderlands you can see a weapon and despite it being more common than what you have, more often than not you’ll check out the stats and special effects to see if its worth using. You might even equip it and fire a few before making your final judgement. In Destiny, if I see a green weapon, I chuck it immediately because I know it doesnt have a long upgrade tree. If I see a green piece of armor I chuck it because only Rare and above has Light.
Seems like a typical MMO to me. Get to max level, grind out enough gear to start “Raiding.” Raid, get your newly upgrade set of gear with x% better stats. Open a new raid, use the previous gear to go up another tier, reset.
If it was a loot grinder, every item would have random stats, but things are too uniform to be a loot grinder
Its an hour spent in the game, not 1 hour playtime total in the game
For Instance, I spent 1 hour at lunch today playing Diablo 3. Saw about 10-12 legendaries drop, upgraded my legendary gems 3 levels, and set a new personal record for greater rift clearing. Diablo gets the instant gratification much better than Destiny
