Destiny - Videogame Thread + SRK Clan SignUp

Just thinking if I should get into this game again. One of my game share buddies is letting me leech off his digital games.

Depends on whether or not you’re willing to put up with a system where progression is based around loot which is given to you (or not) at random after completing a difficult task. Many of those tasks are team based with no matchmaking.

There’s still gear I don’t have after playing since September.

The game is fun, but no matter what they do, as long as rewards for difficult content are randomly generated from a specific pool of items and there’s not even matchmaking for said content, Destiny will have problems.

It can be very frustrating to spend time doing endgame content and end up with something you already have or completely irrelevant to the main reward of said content that you didn’t get.

In general Bungie has implemented systems in the game to ensure they play for a long time. Timesinks. Slowly they’re realizing they have a fun game and they don’t need to do that. The latest expansion removed a lot of systems and currency that only functioned as roadblocks and timesinks, so they’re getting there.

The gameplay is insane though. So much fun.

Well, I got my first exotic out of nowhere last week (The Last Word). Knocking bounties out to get that leveled up. Thanks to that commendation thing being nixed, I was finally able to buy some crucible armor pieces. Did a couple of strikes for the first time as well. Haven’t tried a weekly nightfall yet. Also got my first ten kill streak this weekend. Still can’t stand shotguns in PvP, though. Somehow, I’ve been lucky, getting the new dlc weapons, though I haven’t bought the expansions.

The major difference in how you level grind HoW is Vanguard gear will not get you past level 32. Bungie did this so that the Raid Gear you worked for would not be made obsolete on day one of the new expansion like it did with the Dark Below.

If you already have Crota Raid or Iron Banner armor maxed, then the grind to lvl34 is not bad at all. If you’re under level 32 without Raid/Banner Gear, then you will be limited by the Vanguard mark cap for a while. If you don’t have the expansion then the grind will be even longer.

The game is a lot friendlier then it was before though. Cryptarch wont fuck you over with shards anymore, PvP drops legendaries a lot more often and your performance now effects drops. Old currencies can be converted.

I am fucking tired of running the prision of elders on 35 just to barely pass it and call it quits at the end because everyone gets bored of wasting their time.
Arc burn is an over kill.

Not really. The best things I got were the Timebreaker and the VoG Helm for my Warlock.

My luck as been absolute shit. I did the Nightfall the other day too and all I got was a purple rocket launcher. Not even like Xur was selling anything good either, of course…

Starting to find myself being hard pressed to continue playing this shit. Can’t even try level 32 PoE unless I can get two people to get on at the same time, which is usually never.

Oh yeah, and any tips for completing the third part of the Thorn bounty would be great. Maybe once I get that gun I can actually fight back in Pvp. Lord knows if you don’t have Mythoclast, Hawkmoon or Thorn, you’re just gonna have a bad time. Kind of hate how Crucible is nothing but the same 4 guns now. It’s even worse in trials, to the point where I don’t even feel like trying again until I have at least one of those guns.

I love how every attempt to balance the guns only makes crucible more dumber and less varied on guns selection, at least before we had players using their secondaries along the primaries, but now we are limited on what guns we can use because the dumb time restriction on the bullets.

I don’t know what Crucible you’ve been playing in. I haven’t seen a primary for weeks. I almost wish I’d get killed by an exotic hand cannon just so I know they’re still in the game.

Martian, regarding Trials, it’s going to be a small gun pool there because that’s the endgame PvP activity. It’s essentially a tournament; everyone is going to be picking top tier because the top tier guns have so much more utility than the rest. As for Crucible, maybe it depends on the system on which you play, but I’ve seen more variety with primaries lately, but still seeing more actual kills with secondaries and the same ones.

The only thing I wish they’d do is remove all the old perks that were removed from the new perk pools. It makes legacy weaponry so much more attractive even though the new guns are healthier for gameplay overall.

idk using primaries before was kinda pointless when you could 1 shot someone with a fusion rifle or shotgun. The issue was the maps, they are all tight cornered cluster fucks that favor these close combat guns so even after multiple nerfs they were still king. Lower the rate of ammo spawn was the only way to get people to use primaries more.
They could have gone the other way and just made heavy spawn as fast as secondary and made it so a kill with your super instantly replenished it so you could use it again… Why not just add more dumb ohk mechanics and make em more spamable. The reason behind the nerfs made sense. The big issue is the pvp in this game is sorta boring at the end of the day the maps are lame and the fight happens in the same spot every single time. They should have nerfed all the handcannons a bit to bring up the relevence of auto rifles. That being said some of the new auto rifles from the dlc look like they kick a good punch. Although its hard to judge from just little bars that caim it does good dmg.

i recall a stat showing a long time ago that suros regime was the most used gun, and thorn was popular ever since the buff and hawkmoon has always been hawkmoon. so nerfing secondaries was dumb as shit, cause now it proves my point even more. all you see is hawk/thorn/mythoclast. there is one new auto rifle that is pretty badass, i dont know the name of it, but someone was owning with it in one of my matches. the only the nerf makes me happy about is fusion rifles not being popular anymore, cause i hated that gun with a passion. if they remove fusion rifles and undo all the secondary nerfs, this game would be fun again. the only out of line shotguns are party crasher +1, felwinters lie, and judgment 6. nerf those and we have ourselves a good pvp.

What originally turned me off was farming for materials and how everyone had an endless supply of shards or Relic Iron. May try PVP again even though it was eh to me before. Destiny’s RNG has been kind to me for the most part.

Matador is pretty OP, too.

No need to farm for mats anymore since you can buy them and they’re given as rewards for lower end tasks.

Shards have been phased out. You only need them to level raid gear and won’t get them for doing anything other than the raid, so that’s awesome.

As for RNG it’s hit or miss for me - which I guess is the definition of random. It’s only frustrating when there’s a specific item you want and there’s nothing you can do to make it drop. There’s should be something like the Chocobo Lure that you can purchase to increase the chance of a specific item dropping.

I’ve received Gallerhorn for doing terrible in a Crucible match.

Sigh. Still don’t have it lol. Though I haven’t been hoping for it like others.

After doing all the bounties and shit I finally go to the Reef and explore the area. Literally EVERYBODY there is level 34 and I’m some level 29 pleb:

So now I can simply ā€œBuyā€ Shards from the Speaker for 50 Glimmer? Good, now I just have to farm rep and Crucible marks to get new armor I guess. I’m still rocking TDB gear.

The best thing about HOW is it’s now possible to wear whatever gear you want. Not only are you not locked into specific gear to reach the level cap, but you can take Legendary pieces you want and use those. So I’ve been going to all the vendors, checking out what they have and along with knowledge of available exotics, been creating builds based on style and effectiveness. I want each of my characters (one of each class) to have PVE and PVP builds.

Heads up, FWC has some sick Titan pieces.

Cant farm ether chest more than once, but they now have a better chance to drop treasure keys among other things.

Also, ammo synthesis now stacks to 100 per slot, which is pretty fucking sweet. My vault was stuffed with heavy and special ammo.

The new Iron Banner gear looks really cool. I really like the new Hunter Cloak.
