Destin's Sakura Advanced Play Guide

I don’t think the mashers actually mash during blocked EX Shou, they just seem to wait until it’s finished to either throw or sweep you and never seem to notice you FADCing out and throwing them :stuck_out_tongue:

Heh you’d need reactions like Superman and a move with invincibility to punish that, and like I said I’ve never actually seen someone mash during it :stuck_out_tongue: Maybe I just don’t use it recklessly enough but I’ve chipped many a people to death with it

Shou FADC appears to be +3 on hit, most moves are 3-5 frames less on block so… shrug SRK is -1 on block after FADC, enough to start the mix-up it seems, you have the inititive since you know you’re diving out of the move where they’re waiting hopefully to punish it. I just like trying to catch with an FA2 but it is riskier than FADCing, think it leaves you within throw range so anyone who’s particularly on the ball could probably just throw you out of it :frowning:

Just wanted to let you guys know that in a post a good while back, I told everyone that sakura’s j. hk stuffs pretty much all shotos dps. people say its too difficult to do but I can do it, time and time again. I would like to show anyone who would like to know this. I haven’t been to the forums in while so I just wanted to remind people, once they score a knock down, j.hk stuffs all of ryu’s dps, kens mostly, all except sagats lp. you can just neutral jump that one. Of course everyone knows its about distance and timing. I have it down pretty well. Just add me and well go from there, I got a tourney this saturday on the 11th, just a local gig. haven’t played in 3 months and read this thread, beautiful. I also had a question about ryu’s cr. hp he stuffs almost like sakura but thought maybe I would just j. mk. tatsu over it and try to punish whiff. any information would be much appreciated. my friend’s ryu which I have always effortlessly beaten is using it against me and I want to pull my hair out.

That’s tough dude =\ Yeah I think we all talked about the j.Roundhouse beating out reversals when aimed at the back of Shoto’s heads~ I’m pretty sure the same could be said for c.Fierce? Your best bet is to setup your jumps better if you want to jump in =\ Got any videos for reference?

its no matter what I do, it is not a knockdown jump in. Its just randomly jumping in when he doesn’t expect it, like he throws fireballs and I anticipate the jump in but I seem to catch the cr. hp even if he throws the fireball semi late. after reading destin’s post with helping on how to poke better against ryu, it has shed some light for me but alot of practice i need, my execution used to be on par but now I’m horrid. oh and btw, no more online gaming with sf4, I see alot of people saying its stupid to play online if you wanna stand any chance in competition. Just because I got to g1 and have 75 percent win ration doesn’t mean I’m good. lol, had to learn some time. thank you for the advice. I’ll figure something out.

Ohh good to know, I always though I was at least neutral. One could feasibly do the math to determine exactly the frames, but eh, that’s alot of work. Strangely, on chip is where most people DO hit me between the two dps. I remember getting ex spd’ed a few times out of it as well back when I was playing it online.

Someone refresh me on “Option Select”. I’m about to hit the training room and whatnot, after playing Dan for three months straight.

Good to be back home.

Good thread Destin.

“Option select” just refers to doing an input that can have several different outcomes depending what’s happening on the screen.

I’m sure you know about option select throw where you hold down-back and press LP+LK - that’ll block if they attack you first, tech a throw attempt, or do a cr.LK if they don’t do anything.

You can also to a jumpin attack and then very quickly do a shunpuu or shouoken. The idea here is that if the jumpin attack hits or is blocked then you’ll pause in the air for a fraction of a second and the shunpuu/shouoken won’t come out, but if they teleport or backdash and the jumpin whiffs then it will come out (and hopefully punish them).

I haven’t really played around with it much since i already have enough to think about, but it can be quite powerful.

You are also doing an option select when you crouch mk buffer shouken. I like to option select throw break with my backdashes and sometimes focuses as well. Against rufus, it might be good to break throw with downback lp, lk, and hp.

Really? Interesting… so the LP+LK techs throws, DB blocks follow-up attacks and c.HP to pop him in the nuts if he tries bouncing up for another Dive Kick?

I’m not really sure what you mean by that.

To option select throw tech and backdash do you just tap LP+LK on the second :l: input so that if they’re already grabbing you it’ll tech and otherwise you’ll backdash?

I have no idea how you’d option select with FAs other than just holding down-back while you press MP+MK. Surely you can’t tech throws while you’re charging focus :looney:

Okay so, does anyone here know that you can reset and legit 50/50 an opponent after a crumple?

like lvl.2 focus > wait > lk > dash. Doesn’t work on Big characters I think, but further testing is needed.

I see this being used if you want to mindfudge your opponent, but I can’t see it being applied in any other way, since you can just bread an butter from this position.

Also, I had someone ask me if you can option select her ultra. Can you?

Sugami: Exactly, the crouch hp is 1 frame slower than the crouch lk, so it is more vulnerable to frame traps, but beating the dive kick somewhat makes up for that. You can even buffer in a lk tatsu in case you hit grounded.

RadarTrap: Exactly, if you chose to do the backdash too late, and they had grabbed you before you backdashed, you will still break throw. Same idea with the focus, if you did the focus too late and he was already throwing you, you get out free.

I break something like 90% of throws when I play, if not more. With vega I throw option selects into his backflips too. At first I thought it might not be worth it, but then I saw myself randomly breaking throws from it, feels great to do no work and still get the rewards.

So this whole option select focus attack thing - that’s going to be mighty awkward… do you just hit all 4 button at once (LP+LK+MP+MK) or do you have to kind of plink them (MP+MK~LP+LK)? I’ll have to play around and see if I can convince my hands to do what I’m thinking

im likin all the talk about option selects, i feel like im learning. someone should create a thread for them

Axel!

i believe that if u use cr jab after a crumple stun u can dash under large opponents too. if i remember correctly the cr. jab as a shallower reset

hey Topher, nice to see people from GFaqs here.

Started playing with my local scene, thought the next logical step was to start coming here.

All at once, it is a bit unwieldy, probably the least useful of the option select buffers, but it is one that was SPECIFICALLY mentioned in my japanese sf guide.

Wait wait wait, so it’s an Option select focus/tech/cr.lk?
