Demon's/Dark Souls Thread. Dark Souls II!

I admit I didn’t even bother trying to fight Ornstien & Co without help. Same with Nito. Those kinds of bosses are fucking nuts alone, not even going to bother soloing them lol.

I swear this game just gets to the point where you don’t even want to try fighting anything anymore because everything’s so much stronger than you. Currently at the Tomb of the Giants and it is ridiculous.

I think it’s moreso that no matter what build you do, there will always be one area that fucking sucks for you. When it comes to the Tomb, I gave up trying to clear every area of enemies, I just learned which ones I have to fight, and skip all the rest. Then I just grind at the area right before the boss.

Yeah I guess that makes sense, I was going through without too many problems until I got to the catacombs and this place. I’ve just been trying to find the fastest way out without fighting anything in these two areas.

So, I am still very early in and I want to know if it is feasible to want to have a character who uses Bows and Faith based spells, primarily? I know that I will need a melee weapon of some sort but I want to be a ranged fighter.

PvP bows seem to have very limited and specialized use, but PvE bows are great for laming out lots of enemies and even a few mini-bosses/sub-bosses. Miracles are mostly healing, but they do have a really good attack spell.

So, If I have a character that wants to use bows, would it be smart to try and find daggers and curved swords to avoid having to worry to much about strength, when it comes to bosses and Black Knights that will close on you quickly?

Yeah, if you’re going the Dexterity route, Scimitar/Katana weapons modify based on Dexterity. I have my Scimitar at +10, deals about 850 damage in 4 quick hits. Make sure you upgrade the weapons even if you’re going for a ranged character, eventually you’ll have to whip the sword out. You might try mixing in Pyromancy stuff too, as the requirements for the Pyro spells don’t require much specific leveling to use, spells like Combustion come in handy for close quarters.

Is the Crystal Shield worth buying? Right now, I’m using the Spider Shield and I’m about to fight the Gaping Dragon. And can it never be repaired at all or, only after breaking?

Seems like the soul upkeep for keeping yourself stocked for a pure archer class would be ridiculous though, given how many different things you need souls for. At least with magic you get that shit restocked for free at bonfires.

JUST realized where I needed to go to get more stuff in the area above the swamps. Came at it from Valley of Drakes, and needed to go out of my way. Got the shadow armor (ninja armor?) but not the jap sword, and I’m gonna guess that’s a good weapon for my Wanderer, so I’m gonna head back and grab that. Also got the whip and it fucking blows, what a letdown.

How far is it from the nearest bonfire to bitch spider? I’m gonna try to be human for that one and get some help, but I don’t want to waste my last humanity item and then die to some bullshit toxic blowgun cock gobbler again.

EDIT: you don’t even need your shield against Gaping Dragon. Easiest fucking boss ever, just run around until it whiffs, it runs in a straight line, stand behind one of his legs and whack away at him. Repeat until he dies, just make sure not to get caught when he flies and pounces. Also unless you’re a high strength character, might not even be worth cutting his tail off, just so he doesn’t tail whip you randomly. He’s only ever done it to me when I had a phantom or was a phantom though, 1v1 he didn’t do it to me at all.

It can’t be upgraded. Don’t even worry about a shield on the Gaping Dragon, just two hand weapon him and dodge/run. If you can make there, the Darkroot Basin has the Grass Crest Shield near the Black Knight(basically look where the Hydra is and run in the opposite direction staying on the lower path). It blocks 95% physical damage and has a Stamina regen bonus, and it’s upgradeable. Awesome shield worth taking the trip for.

Stray Demon…I got so close just to get one-shotted.

EPIC TITTAYS, GOD DAMN. I’d go Dark Souls IRL just to jump on those things.

That’s the sword I plan on using if I ever get one for the good Str modifier. Good to know that it hits like a truck.

And Crystal Ring Shield is so OP, I love it. Gonna make sure to get this on all my characters lol

Bonfire is almost straight across from Queelog’s entrance, if you take Valley of the Drakes entrance and take the wheel/elevator down, head left and you’ll run into it. The greyish hill where Queelog is almost directly opposite. Might want to take a detour to the Undead Asylum and snag the Old Rusted Ring so you can run in water like normal

And try to cut off the Gaping Dragon’s tail, it drops one of the weapons for the Knight’s Honor cheevo/trophy if you’re going for it, plus you can hang out near his ass and get free hits when he tries to tail whip minus tail.

Wow that ring was in the Asylum? Had I known that, I woulda headed back there and grabbed it and just dodged the boss. But I’m too deep in Blighttown now, just gonna roll with what I got.

And I got the axe from the gaping dragon, it’ll be a LONG time until I use it. Probably never, lol.

EDIT: WOW Iaito is disappointing. How long before I find something that’s better than the Drake Sword? I’m a high DEX class and it hasn’t meant shit because nothing can beat Drake Sword yet.

Thanks. I beat the Gaping Dragon with help from a Phantom. I could’ve done it alone but, he was there so I summoned him. It took like 8 tries for me to summon somebody, though… annoying.

An upgraded +10 sword (falchion I guess) should be able to surpass your drake sword with the bonus, if your build is dex. You have to upgrade weapons in this one, not just use crescent falchion until the end.

REMEMBER NOT TO GO ABOVE 40 IN A STAT.

I also highly recommend making a lightning weapon +5 asap.

A salty DSP reviews Dark Souls and he didn’t even beat it

That guy is the epitome of dumb casual gamer. Maybe he would have lasted if it had kinect controls.

re: lightning weapons

fire weapons are also good, my fire claymore +5 gives me a little over 400 attack. gotta head down to the demon ruins to get the ember and crank it up to 10.

also beat tomb of the giants today. it wasnt as bad as i expected it to be, but i was preparing myself for the worst since ive heard horror stories about that place. i think the only thing that kept me sane in there was the fact that i had the lantern (some npc kicked me off a cliff, i found the lantern when i landed); pre-lantern though…yeah i can see myself raging if it was like that the whole time.

nito surprisingly wasn’t hard at all. i beat him on my 2nd try without getting hit at all. the first time i ran in and got jumped by 3 big skellies, 3 little skellies, and the ofc the boss. the 2nd time, i hung back and killed the little skellies that ran to me with a divine weapon. i guess i was out of range for the big guys to attack me so it was just me and nito…and hes pretty free since hes sooooooooooo slow. the only thing that came close to hitting me was the uhhhhh invite hell (think guilty gear, eddie) move but i just mashed roll and avoided it. im wondering if i got lucky or something.
