got soulsucker, still getting used to using it.
Basically you want to pick which types of weapons you want to specialize in. Strength is good for most longswords/greatswords/clubs/axes, etc., basically the kinds of things an armored knight would probably use. Dexterity is more useful for daggers and curved swords/katanas, plus I think you can max out damage output with a bow better with a dex-based character. As for spears and polearms, they have multiple types that work with different stats.
So basically, decide whether you want to focus on more of an all-around heavy armor character, or a speedy light-armor character who focuses more on dodging and not getting hit.
If you go strength, I would snag a longsword because they are incredibly versatile and easy to use. For dexterity, any kind of dagger/katana/curved sword can be useful.
As for upgrading, you need to collect pieces of certain ores to upgrade weapons. In the early game, you can get shards of hardstone and sharpston from killing the phalanx blobs in 1-1 and 1-2, or buy them from the vendor in 2-1. All the world 2 lizardmen miners can drop various ores as well, especially the ones holding bags.

ya the bag holders are mandatory drops with A LOT of ores, but once you kill them they never appear…
i tried doing the arrow thing to selen it didnt work, cause once you shot her once she spazez out and runs around sometimes out of view and just heals herself…but my bow did suck, i didnt upgrade it or anything…someone told me they killed her in a couple of hits with a maxed out moon flamebridge (SP)…i was like what??? my sword was seriously doing like 50 damage to her HAHA…

I guess it depends on where you stand, and on the quality of your bow. I was standing out in the middle of the swamp, when I got poisoned I would wait until my health got low and then cure it with a miracle and heal with grass. Since she just stands on that island if you get a clear enough view there’s nowhere she can go that you can’t shoot her.
she did the same thing to me. i would hit her, then she’d do her anti-magic spell, then run around and fade into the background for a few seconds, then return. once i got her life down to about 15-20%, she ran off and healed. that’s why i said get her down to that, then get after her and unleash hell.

Just seems like it’s going to make every archstone’s WT go down to Pure Black. Nothing major, but it’s a good idea to clear as much as you can on Friday so you can hunt down the Primevals and do all the PBWT stuff over the weekend.
I finally killed a red-eye knight last night. It helped that I finally had a magic spell, though it seemed to do pitiful damage against him (Flame toss). I had no more turpentine either, so it was won the old fashioned way…sword and shield tactics.
…then I went to some other part of the world, and met up with the octopus-face looking guy with the bell(cool creature design in this game…that looks like something from someone’s nightmare)…he killed me probably 2 or 3 times.
*also…the simple action of successfully parrying something is so satisfying in this game.
i cant do shit to red eyed knight. he just runs into me and i die.
i recently got bodied by flame lurker too, i gotta get on a plane to puerto rico in a few hours so i’ll have to run it back sunday.
was he blocking it??? cause the damage is different when you hit him when he has his shield up than when hes exposed…like if you time it to hit when hes trying to attack you you will get a full hit in and score max damage…same goes with every knight…

yeah, I guess that was the case. I was just happy to finally kill that guy. He managed to heal 1 time so it took quite awhile. haha, I almost lost hope once I saw him heal before I could rush back in to stop it.
My “wanderer” will most likely end up being a mixture of melee and magic…those are the most interesting characters in terms of battle tactics, imo. He’s still fresh though…not even strong enough to properly use a knight’s shield I found off the blue-eyed knight a few days ago.
ya thats the type of character i play but as the magician class…basically a “battle mage”, however most of my stats just go into magic/intelligence/vitality so i ignore any stats relating to using armor of heavy weapons…i usually stick with a shield and some sort of none heavy sword…you can also upgrade swords with a crescent (i think) upgrade to give you mp regen…
also, im not sure if anyone noticed this but im not really convinced that heavy armor will actually help you that much later in the game, like im pretty sure regardless of what armor you are wearing shit will killing you hella quick in your 2nd through whatever playthroughs, so i sport light armor so i can move quickly and dodge…

ps…i used soulsucker on yurit (sp) cause hes basically standing still unless you provoke him, and that shit is indeed a one hit kill…

ppps…i also understand how you can get plat in 5 days, apparently if you play coop and someone drops you a maxed moon weapon and you pick it up you automatically get the trophy…so you can exchange shit and get it done very fast without much grinding for ores…
Ore grinding isn’t really an issue. You still have to beat the game like 3.5 times.

speaking of ore, does anyone have a pure darkmoonstone??? apparently only lizards in 4-2, 4-3 drop them…if you do i can fully upgrade a weapon and will drop it for you for trophy purposes…

yeah it was a slow thing, I was playing last night around midnight and one of my areas was pure black and the others were noticeably darker. now everything looks pure black or near it. Does this mean around xmas/easter or something we will get pure white? cuz that would be nice
Who knows, but I’m going to take this chance to grab the 2-5’s primevals and stuff. I have to wait for the WT to go back though for me to finish the game since I still need PWWT for Miralda’s drop in 1-1 =/
Black Phantoms galore.
I killed Executioner Miralda after 3 tries and got her axe, plus climbed down and got the Brushwood Armor set. That is the best looking set I have seen in the game, looks like a Samurai.
I can’t use the shield because my STR is only 22 and it needs 26, the rest of the armor I can equip if I use the equip ring.
