Ha, I’m not even as far as you are. Four Kings is WAY harder than O&S from what I’ve heard.
I’ve got +1 lightning now with +5 ascended flame. My grasscrest is at +5 I think.
I’ve been using the balder shield for maximum stability, need to treally train parrying with that to get ready for gwyn.
I’ve not touched 4k, going to get +9 or +10 fire before challenging them probably.
What I’ve done is get a couple sets of min-max’d armour for medrolling and fastrolling (just a few pieces off) and I still need to pickup dusk’s crown. I might try O&S without the crown then decide if I really want to do the asylumn again (which I’m obviously going to do eventually and considering that I solo’d it sl20 in one of my runs I’m not at all worried about that, it’s just things are slowing down slightly. I’ve killed sif though, haven’t lit the tomb’s bonfire yet.
Sen’s was a joke but the giant sentinels aren’t.
I’ll let you know how O&S is without the crown once I attempt it in a jiffy
Note: Part of my delay is I’ve actually be playing streetfighter apparently all my old darksouls bros have started playing sf4 (terribly, so we’re all scrub together) meanwhile the people on my steam list via SRK are playing darksouls .
I should probably have a think about better armour - at the moment I’ve got the Black Leather Boots paired with the Painting Guardian Robe, but that’s solely for looks, not effectiveness.
(Apart from the Four Kings, where I used Havel’s set along with the Crown. I’m not ashamed… :))
I like how no one complains about the Heater Shield and makes estoc users really good. Yet back in the day everyone was complaining about the eagle shield. Though you cant parry with the eagle shield.
I’ve ordered the Black Armour edition, as I’m a sucker for steelbooks. I figure I’ll pick up the art book (and maybe the map) separately on eBay at some point.
I’d never have tried it if weight wasn’t such an issue at L1 but, as I say, I can’t believe how good it is. It’s so cheap to buy you can make multiple versions easily. And it’s right at the start of the game! I can see now why they made it so ugly…
eagle shield was nerf, used to have 100 phy def also. Though people were complaining about how to play people were turtling. Now even more people turtle with estoc and heater shield. Not just that you can parry with the heater shield.
Phase 1 is keep both of them in view, bait attacks and punish whoever you’re targeting. If you want to fight super smough then you can bait a smough attack and run, li’l O should dash at you which you can roll then punish. Also almost all of li’l o’s attacks are super unsafe, overhead lightning is safe and you can’t stagger his 3 swing combo with pyro fist.
Super smough’s butt slam demands respect so back peddle a lot, roll as late as possible if you don’t think you can walk it safely.
His charging swing is fairly rollable but sometimes he throws a weird hit animation at me (this will one shot you because the animation fucks up so the hitbox is off so if you rolled right your i frames will carry you into the middle of a big lightning death hammer.
his overhead (and jumping overhead) are laughably easy to roll and punish (always roll sideways or else the blanka-esque lightning will catch you for a tiny bit of damage, BUT it can possibly lock you into a horizontal swing which will kill you)
His horizontals aren’t much threats otherwise, the one swing combo can be punished but I didn’t test if you can bait the horizontal then rush in, combust then roll out if he takes a second swing.
If you decide to use lame crossbow tactics (it’s your SL1 so if you want to crossbow go ahead) the horizontal swings are great to be crossbowing but you might back up too far and lose the lock on. His overheads can’t be shot because a giant metal hammer will be in your way if you just back up.
I never tried super o but a lot of people say that so long as you roll forward super o can’t touch you.
I haven’t paid much attention to this thread although I’m a Souls fanatic. So what’s the verdict on dark wood grain ring is it worth investing 40 endurance for pvp? Is it worth using in pve?
I manned up and took them on yesterday - my first attempt involved summoning Solaire (I figured him keeping one busy for me would be worth the 50% health increase) but clearing a path for him turned out to be a major hassle - and when I died against them I realised I was out of humanity!
I decided to try it solo and see what the craic was, and kept getting cornered and slaughtered (in one case I got stuck on a pillar, which was infuriating). My plan was to hit Ornstein with a Great Combustion* as he charged me, and then lure him down to the other end of the hall, finishing him off with Great Combustion while Smough tried to catch up. I got this to work perfectly, and set about Great Fireball-ing Smough to death. Only to die when I got greedy and tried to go for a big money winner to kill him. My fault entirely.
A few more tries and they were finally dropped. I found that if you managed not to die in the first ten seconds you were okay (idiocy permitting). I suspect that’s not an original observation.
Lost Izalith was surprisingly easy - I managed not to die, which was nice. Although the Demon Centipede being immune to fire damage meant I wasn’t looking forward to it. Flash Sweat and Estus FTW. Solaire was a definite summon for that one! And I was cheap and used my crossbow with Binoculars for the second part of Bed of Chaos.
Dukes Archives next (I’m not looking forward to the Channelers there at L1), then down to Ash Lake for the Siegmeyer slab. I’m thinking I might poke my head into the DLC then, and get the blue slab from the Royal Wood (which means I don’t have to suffer the path in the Crystal Caves) and go on a suicide run for Kalameet’s slab. That’ll get my Magic Crossbow to +10 and let me get my Black Leather Gloves & Boots to +10. Then just get the Divine Hand Axe to +10 in the Tomb of the Giants and I can take on Nito (I’m thinking the skeletons are going to be more of a problem than Nito there, hence the +10 Divine and a +10 Bloodshield to avoid bleed). Then Gwyn.
It sounds so easy when I write it down like that!
*I am happily abusing Pyromancy. I am a Pyromancer, after all!
Lost Izalith sucks, worst idea for a place in a video game ever. They most have been smoking crack, “Hey I got idea for the next area, lets just add nothing but lava and giant skeleton turkeys.”
So I been playing Demon’s Souls, my first run through. I’m deep in world 2-2 and came across a river of lava and I can’t figure out where to go. It seems like a dead end, just stickin my big toe in that shit has me eating a shit load of damage, but it seems to be the way I am supposed to go. Any tips?
I forget exactly which way, it’s been a while. At the start of the level get to the end of the tunnel with all the miners in it, not the exploding wisps one. In that room hug the right wall where it’s dark and you can drop down to small platforms which eventually lead to the bottom of the cave via a ladder where the 2-2 boss is down another tunnel.
