Demon's/Dark Souls Thread. Dark Souls II!

Looks like the time of the beta has come. The GIFS on Tumblr are plentiful.

^New backstab animations are lookin’ pretty slick. Also, is that the Elite Knight armor set I see? Does this confirm the return of other armor/weapon sets as well? Because I’d love to be able to cosplay Artorias still.

Also, straight sword backstab:

The codes for betas were sent out on the 7th, apparently. A random selection of 5000 people will get to play on a first come, first serve basis. Looks like I missed out, unfortunately. Which is pretty gay. They should’ve made it exclusive to people who have a Dark Soul’s/Demon’s Souls save on their hard drive or something instead of just giving it out to a random bunch of fuckers. At least that way they can be sure the people who are testing it actually give a fuck about giving decent feedback to FromSoftware.

I have over 400 hours in Dark Souls. And it makes me angry knowing some asshole who’s probably never even heard of this franchise will get to play, and not me.

However, everyone will get a second chance. On the 22nd, they’ll be sending out more codes and raising the amount of participants to 30k. Hopefully I’ll be able to snag myself a code then.

Otherwise, it’s a long, long wait till’ March…

I’m one of those assholes and I can’t wait to play. I’ll be thinking of you as I try my best to trollingly kill people in the beta.

I really hope they dont do the same bull shit like they did with Dark Souls. Its like hey heres a sp ed of dark souls, but yet look you wasted all that money cause now prepare to die ed is out.

Got a beta invite but said my key was already used.

Coming from dark souls to demons… is there a 25% equip speed boost? Not seeing it mentioned. Also is there any other key subtleties between the two that wont be so obvious?

Just Been investing into stamina and some HP as a wanderer before deciding on a definitive build for first playthrough.

No plunging, no dash attack, no jump. Parry window is alittle different. PvP if you want to be a dick baby nail and scraping spear will be your friend, if you want to break the game, magic.

Just don’t put points into Resistance. If you run into anything you need resistance for, there’s equipment AND Humanity that works better.

Parries work far better in Dark Souls. Learn to parry.

If you really want to piss off people in PvP, just pick up a Miridan’s hammer. Also amazing in PVE too.

Just 2 hand it and R1. Really good range it’s a pole arm, great damage, reaaaaallly good pressure on block breaks guard easily.

Reason why people would get mad is because it’s a proclaimed “scrub” weapon and is great in footsies, so one with great spacing would destroy a shit load of scrubs out there with it.

It’s not too amazing though, it’s only good for the 2h R1 while the R2 is pretty situational.

Oh right, STR weapons in Demon souls are amazing in comparison to Dark souls. Guillotine axe is boss super quick and damaging, Dragon bone smasher is fucking HNHGHH, Meat cleaver has hyper armor on the R2, Claymore is solid as per usual, etc…

Also, there’s Equip Burden and Item Burden in DS. Every item you’re holding adds to your burden. You can’t carry 1,000,000 things without consequence like you can in DkS. Make use of Stockpile Thomas; visit him often. Drop off any weapons or armor you’re not using, and be sure to leave the upgrade materials with him as well… Those get really heavy.

Fail to do this, and you end up missing out on items. If you try to pick something up and don’t have space, you’ll have to make space or equip a certain ring. Otherwise, that item will be lost forever, as after you attempt to pick it up and fail, it won’t be there when you come back. At that point, it’s either now or never, so just make it a point to drop off your stuff and avoid the trouble.

Item burden. Good fucking riddance lol.

There’s a ring that increases item burden the same way that Havels ring does, great to have around. If you find something and just hit max item burden, slap on the ring and make a trip home.

Speaking of which, the miracle spell Evacuate is great. Gives you a teleport straight back to the nexus.

dark souls PvP was never that deep, people love do nothing but backstab, gank, and run into mobs.

Yeah one thing I hated about fighting off invaders in Dark is targeting those harmless guys right in the entrance of new londo during a fight.

One thing I wanted to do as a dickwrath is chaos eggheads on low-levels in the beginning of undead parish. Just didn’t know how the whole egg planting thing worked : /

So confirmed no 25% movement speed in Demons? And how the hell do you perform guestures, gotta beat the game first or something? Is it a bad idea to try parrying some of these weapons? I do not wanna wear heavy armors so I likely will be dying this first playthrough.

Just finished the beta. Though most of the time I was just trying to summon people so that wasted 45 mins. Boss fight was pretty fun. I don’t get the dual swordsman at all though

If you guys are looking for something to tie you over until Dark Souls II, check out Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen. Game is pure crack and is very similar to the Souls games.

I can see myself dumping over a 100 hours on this game easily. I think I already dumped over 20.

Closest thing to soul series imo is still Monster Hunter. IMO if the team that does Monster hunter were to collab with the Soul series team, Monster hunter devs handles the bosses and Dark souls handles everything else, it’d be insane.

Dragon’s dogma is still crazy fun and both Dark souls and Dragon’s Dogma takes inspiration from Berserk so that’s a huge plus, I’d recommend it.

  • I got stuck in the catacombs after not getting too far in the city. I’m afraid of bosses. Should I level for that?

If you just started get out of the catacombs now! My first playthrough I rocked thief gear and traded my shield for parry dagger and that was all that I used. Bosses aren’t hard just don’t play dumb, and yeah get out of the catacombs.

I am just curious how insanely quick a weapon like the Bandit’s Knife could be with the attack speed modifier maxed out lol

Don’t really know but as I said my first play through that was all I used, it eventually turned into my perfect run char. with everything done in game. But it worked and worked well. It handled invasions and bosses alike. Really good weapon.

It wont matter if it takes 6-8 swings to break someone’s poise.

Imagine what it’d do on the heavier weapons. Depending on how it scales, it may be trivial on the faster weapons/amazing on heavy weapons or ok on heavy weapons but broken on fast weapons.

Im thinking the former but I don’t know what kind of modifier it is.
