there are plenty of play throughs on youtube. What was the last boss you killed? You shouldnt waste your time on the giant hydra or crystal golems, and theres really no point to Drake Valley for new players.
I think the last boss I killed was the ugly blue dragon in the sewers that throws up everywhere. I do better with bosses than I do with regular enemies. I got slaughtered by the fucking mushroom people in darkroot. So embarrassing.
I was trying no to spoil the big fights by watching YT. So I was mainly just reading the dark souls wiki.
As soon as I get a flash drive from wal mart tomorrow I’m going the fuck in. I already got my dark souls save editor open. I’m not even going to make an OP character, I just want to give myself like 200k souls and maybe get my Intelligence up to 50. I hope its easier to join games in DS2.
gaping dragon? Did you kill moonlight butterfly or the gargoyle twins? If so chaos witch quelaag is going to be the next boss you should fight. And if you are in human form you can summon man maneater mildred to fight the boss with you after you kill her in human form. Also in the depths there is a weapon you might want to get called iaito, causes bleeding which does extra damage. And you might want to make a fire iaito to get past the ice guys later on. Balder Straight side sword also does a lot of damage at lvl 15 which also can be upgraded at the blacksmith once you find all the embers
Ok i’ll give a run down. Though it’s best if you gave an exact numbers to your stats like example 15 STR, 8 Dex, 8 int, 10 vitality etc… pretty much the whole list.
On weapons there’s a minimum stat requirement to wield them, much of them require a minimum amount of STR or Dex depending on size or if they’re dex weapons, some require Int and Faith stats to wield. Alternatively the weapons also show how well they scale with each stat. They rank from E through S. The higher the rank the more damage your weapon gets out of that stat. Some weapons have no stat scaling but high base damage.
Also once you upgrade a non-unique weapon enough via blacksmith, you’ll get to upgrade them into several paths. Specifically for your build theres a upgrade path that allow weapons to scale off Int.
About your stats; Vitality increases your HP, Endurance increases your stamina and equip load so that you can equip heavier things, Int increases magic damage and scaling on magic weapons also spells have a minimum requirement to use. So to use the more advanced Faith or Int spells you have to increase those stats respectively. If you want more spell slots so that you can use a bigger variety of spells, you invest in attunement.
For reference on stats http://darksoulswiki.wikispaces.com/Stats
Keep your equip load below 50% if you don’t want to be fat rolling or move slower. Swap out heavier pieces or armor for lighter ones. Weapons also add to the equip load.
Again upgrade your shield so that it has more stability, more stabilty means less stamina consumed on block.
Regarding finding out tidbits like how to figure all this shit out without the wiki, there’s a help button when looking at your weapon or stats page. Pretty much the first thing I did when I played years ago out of habit.
Now what could you do with that character? Im pretty sure he’s more than salvageable and viable. If he has a lot of Vitality or endurance like say 40 of either, then right now he’s a tanky mage. If you got 30+ int then you’re more of a pure sorceror without much attunement stats with some defensive stats here and there. Then there’s everything in between which is totally fine too.
Lastly, ask what kind of play style you want. You want to be a full blown caster with plenty of spells? Magic swordsman that can use bigger weapons and buff them with sorcery? Do you like a certain kinds of weapons example being rapiers, greatswords, pole arms, katanas etc… ? Anyways just post your stats and mention what kind of weapon or playstyle you want to end up with.
dont forget to get a divine weapon to kill the skeletons, mostly cause the necromancers will keep bringing them back to life
The Iaito is located in Blighttown, not the Depths
There are no “Ice” enemies… If you’re talking about the golems and the enemies in the Duke’s Archives, they’re Crystal. IMO, I think it’d be better to make a Lightning weapon.
The Balder Side Sword is a drop from the Balder Knights in the Undead Parish, btw
used the fire Iaito to take care of Duke’s Archives, mostly cause my fire Iaito was like level 8 killed them fine. The Balder Side Sword can also be found in sens fort by a drop also easier to find with the Covetous Gold Serpent Ring, and using humanity helps your item find go up. If you want fire weapons you have to find the undead black smith in the catacombs. Lighting weapons in anor londo from the ginat blacksmith. The 1st black smith you meet you can give him the ember found in the depths, and in new anor londo for the great ember. For Divine Ember get it after the boss fight moonlight butterfly, and the other great Divine Ember is in the tomb of the giants. Wont get any good spells until you save big hat in Sens Fort, then you save him again in dukes.
I want to play a long ranged style but I must not be doing something right my spells all feel like they come out too slow and dont do good crowd control. I dont really know the difference between all the arrows either. I also like the Scythes and Halbeards but they are super slow.
Thanks for all the help guys. I ended up just modding my save file to give me 500 million souls or so so I could beef up my HP and stats. Funny thing is having 99 of all stats doesnt make you a god, which I actually like. I have enough strength to take on the stronger enemies without getting one shot KOed and not know what happened, spending the next 10 minutes running back to where I died only to get on shot KOed again. That was rage inducing.
Its funny this game, the bosses are giving me absolutely no trouble, its the little minnions that were giving me a hard time. Granted I have stronger weapons but I could more easily deal with 1 boss as opposed to 8 skeletons suffocating me.
Oh and I kinda sorta modded in the fully loaded uchigatana. Lol.
So now I’m actually enjoying myself. I just roasted the hydra, the spider bitch, the wolf and now I’m in “sens fortress” or something.
And since I looked at the wiki I saved myself boss spoilers so its fun seeing what I have to fight next. I think I just made this game casual.
Lol the Great Scythe is one of the best weapons in the game at level 15 it does massage damage and causes bleeded. Most people use the R2 attack.
Halbreds and Scythes are pretty amazing.
Black knight Halbred, vs monsters=rape
Great scythe is absolutely amazing for pve and pvp. It’s only slow if you whiff it. You’ll recover fast if it’s on hit or block. It’s absolutely dangerous in PvP if someone uses dead angles with it which is pretty much ambiguous cross ups on a blocking opponent. Of course one whiff and they’ll be taking awhile to recover.
If you want a good defensive weapon with amazing backstab properties, Estoc is the way to go. Can R1 poke from behind a shield, counter hits with the poke deal great damage, and the backstab parry damage is comparable to knives. Also has great range.
Go for spears if you want more offensive poking weapon that has way better R1 damage when two handed. Great range as well and can poke from behind a shield too.
Also I guess I can’t really stop you from just going 99 all stats lol. Just experiment with all the weapons you come by and test out their move sets. There’s a huge variety even within the same archetype of weapons.
Upping the Dexterity stat gives you faster cast time. I forgot the breakpoints for it though.
If you want crowd control you could try Pyromancy. You can lob AoE fireballs at enemies and its damage scaling is based solely on the catalyst aka the Pyromancy Flame instead of a particular stat. Or you can get your INT to 50, do a semi-hidden quest and get the White Dragon Breath spell. It absolutely destroys mobs.
Something I REALLY like about DS is the way enemies have actual weaknesses you can exploit.
My biggest pet peeve are enemies with no clear weaknesses where a great deal of your losses come just from not knowing what is actually going on. I like that on the Iron Golem I just beat for instance, you can actually run in between his legs and get a massive chunk of his life down after a whiffed axe swing. No invisible wall, no circular hitbox that travels behind him or between his legs, a real actual gap where you can run through. And even on Sif where he couldnt hit you with the “blade” if you were closer to the hilt…I could see this easily not being the case in games like Ninja Gaiden and DmC where enemies just did whatever the fuck they wanted and had an answer to every what SEEMS like an open opportunity.
^Stuff like this is why, as we look back on Dark Souls in another five years it will still be one of the best video game experiences of all time.
Thread bump because FURRYCURRY HAS DEFEATED LORD GWYN!
So my end game story… I spent entirely too much time trying to kill Gwyn. I had just become a dragon so I was enjoying the massive melee power boost. Along with my Hornet Ring was stabbing everybody in the back! So good so good. Those Black Knights never stood a chance.
Gwyn did. I’m the one who didn’t stand a chance. I didn’t know such rape was possible in Dark Souls but there it was on full display. I then went on to wikis to get tips and found out my best bet was to parry everything and win on that PURE SKILL tip. Yeah I was at it for a couple of hours. As you can imagine I earned myself many Black Knight weapons. -_-
It wasn’t until after I gone to dinner with my girlfriend and got back home hours later did I do it. I booted up the box and went straight for the boss. Gwyn leapt at me like he always does but instead of blocking like a bitch I stepped up to the plate and parried that fool. I knew then that this was the moment I was looking for. From then on I parried everything and when I got him down to like an 1/8 of this health I just said “F it” and went right on and and scratched his ass up. Oh he landed a couple of hits but my raw Dragon strength was too much for him!
Then I got my anticlimatic ending. Thanks for that Dark Souls lol. Sure there are lots of ways, some even not as cheap, for one to beat Gwyn but that’s how I did it. It reminded me that parrying was a viable tactic in this game. I had gotten so used to blocking and ducking and hiding throughout my playthrough of Dark Souls that I forgot that I had the strength and the skill get all up in an enemy’s grill. I’m ready for round 2. NG+ I’m coming for you!
if DSP can kill Gwyn anyone can
I still dont know the map too well so I’m getting pissed off running back n fourth. I dont like the um, warp points some of them still dont get you to where you need to be at, at least thats how I feel right now.
I enjoy the game overall.
I really wish some weapon swings werent so awkward and slow.
some weapons are slower then others, learning how to attack then block will reduce recovery, and if you have the dark wood ring you can attack with R2 then roll after a missed attack
yeah you can cancel recovery frames of whiffed attacks by rolling. Helps to have a good roll too.
Also each weapon has their own good attacks and situational ones. Then there’s Balder side sword and it’s godlike moveset and range.
R2 has the range of a fucking spear and hits like a truck on counter hit. Has good sword and board normals, and an can be compared to a claymore when 2 handed. Amazing weapon.
