Demon's/Dark Souls Thread. Dark Souls II!

Die but don’t rage.

It’s the only real way to learn and enjoy this game.

I could actually imagine that Dark Souls arcade game existing, since the real DS already demands arcade precision.

Probably the greatest tip that I could give you is to learn how to upgrade your weapons as soon as possible (instead of pouring all of your souls into levels), it makes the game so much manageable!

Welcome to die!

eSports is fucking retarded.

Make sure to get that dragon sword early? Stock up on arrows for that task and have fun!

Patients owns any game but this statement times 10 for darksouls. Unless you have gdlk reaction and anticipation…taking things slower will get you a long way. The roll has invincibility frames on start up and the less you equip the faster your character is overall.

Started out with Knight class, and I’ve come to realize that my roll is pretty garbage so I haven’t even been using it. Didn’t know about the invincibility frames so I’ll check that out, but the recovery on the knight’s roll is so slow that I’m not sure how much it would help me. Made it past the second boss and the black knight in the area right before. Game has been a lot of fun, so far I’ve just been relying on making enemies whiff their attacks and punishing the recovery. Seems like there will be a lot of that as well as getting used to attack patterns. Haven’t met a merchant (or maybe I accidentally skipped one) so I’ve only been using souls to level up.

Its slow because you have too much weight… Take some armor off.

It all depends on your equipment load, like say you have 50 pound equiment load, you’ll be able to roll fairly decently if you are only using under 25 pounds, 50%. You get a much faster, recoverable, roll if your pounds used is 25% your total equipment load. This plus it’s other benefits makes the ring of FAP practically a must have imo.

I did the same thing! I played through half of the game with heavy armor, but when I started wearing light armor, the game was changed dramatically.

When you get to the first blacksmith, be sure to upgrade your weapons and armor (mostly your weapons at the beginning of the game). I can NOT stress this enough!

I started the game rolling slow so I didn’t think it was my starting equipment that was affecting it. Will heavy armor always put you over the limit? Can I help that by leveling endurance? I thought that having a slower run/roll was just going to be an attribute of the Knight class lol. And I’ll be sure to check out the blacksmith.

Yes you can increase the amount you can equip with endurance, that is what is mainly used for, other than increasing stamina. But you need to stack levels upon levels onto endurance to make a real difference, even the full medium weight armor sets require at least 30+ endurance to wear while moving as if you’re wearing nothing. So the best choice, as a beginner, is to wear light armor and use a strong shield.

 Too good.

Teaches noobs bad habits :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes endurance helps you wear heavier weapons/armor in general and boosts your stamina bar. stops increasing stamina at about 40

There’s a 2 rings that increase your equip burden. 1 breaks if removed and gives other bonuses. The other just gives flat out 50% which will allow you to wear full medium armor without fat rolling.

Also there’s 4 levels of rolling.

•Fat rolling. Don’t know if there’s any invincibility frames on this. Takes forever to initiate, forever to recover, covers so little distance that you’re better off walking. >50% equip burden

•Medium rolling. Has a fair amount of iFrames and usable for evasion. <50%

•Fast rolling. Lots of iFrames, covers an ok distance, very quick start up and ends/recovers really quick. <25%

•Ninja cartwheel bullshit. Covers a huge distance, bullshit amount of iFrames, similar start up to fast rolling and ends slightly slower than fast rolling but makes it up with the bullshit distance you cover in each roll. <25% + a certain ring

Pick a weapon you like and then upgrade the shit out of it. If you want a defensive weapon that pokes while guarding, there’s spears and rapiers. Spears work better than rapiers for going on the offensive on bosses/big enemies/whatever, while rapiers have a really nice crit modifier for parrys and backstabs.

Lots of weapons have different move sets, properties, and utility. So find what you like and build around it. If you want you can also build your stats in a way so that you can use a really good variety of weapons.

Upgrade your shield to better block things that you have no business blocking. Look for 100% damage reduction on block or atleast close to it, stability, and then weight. Then look at the other effects it offers like elemental/debuff resistances.

The heater shield sold by the first merchant you run into is very solid. Really light weight, 100% damage reduction, fast parry, some fire resistance, ok ish stability.

If you’re lucky as fuck and get a black knight shield drop from the first black knight or so, that shield has really good stability and AMAZING fire resistance 95% fire resistance at the cost of being relatively heavy.

In the event you get invaded, a lot of people like to carry around the Pyromancy combustion/great combustion, which does high burst fire damage very quickly. Does massive chip on block if you don’t have the health and shield resistances, even with those it does a respectable amount of chip and high damage on hit enough to almost one shot someone that didn’t invest in vitality if the user fully upgrades his pyromancy glove

So with that shield, it effectively counters their pyromancy spells. If you don’t have that shield then it’s no biggie, it’s just something nice to have.

Find a shield that suits your build as you go.

As far as stats, don’t put points into resistances. Press select while looking at the stat/whatever menu to see an explanation of whatever stat/item you want to look into. Also pyromancy isn’t affected by Int or Faith; it scales on how far you upgraded your pyromancy glove. So you’re free to have some pyromancy spells on the side on whatever build you look into.

Also as a note, keep in mind that pushing stats past 40 usually have diminishing returns. So at max keep a stat at around 50 or so and then move the extra points elsewhere.

Ugh, just picked up this game and I really wish there was a way to not get trapped in the game by an invader who just wants to hide until you jump off a cliff or die to monsters on the way to a boss you wansn’t intending to fight yet.

I should have been asleep half a bloody hour ago and I know I’m going to regret not just turning off the damned console tommorow morning.

Is there any way to deal with this without wasting time going through a whole level to bone out at the boss, or giving the non-combatent a free win by jumping off a cliff or something?

Playing a game in your own home and beeing told you can’t exit because randomass2382 wants to sit around pissing in a bottle whilst waiting for you to fling your character off a cliff is rather aggravating.

Dont go human, stay hollow.

@Iduno - You could always just sign out of PSN (assuming you play on PS3) and it will automatically kick you off and put you offline.

Also the thing about armor is that while wearing lighter armor lets you roll faster, if you get hit, you’re boned. Whereas if you have heavy armor, your roll might suck but you won’t take as much damage if you get smacked.

I got this game

Looks like the regular edition.
Gonna play tomorrow… Can’t wait, lmfao

Not really.
Armor isnt that important in Dark Souls.
If you really want poise 53 is like the most you need and thats like a wolf ring and catarina gauntlets/

Which is a problem IMO because of how good rolling is.

I mean what’s the point in armor stats and weight when everyone will just go lightweght for 24.9%/ninja rolls.

Depends on your build/playstyle. Most people would rather tank it with heavy armor their first time through. As you start to familiarize yourself with the game, you gain enough confidence to go with lighter armor and a more evasive playstyle.
