Demon's/Dark Souls Thread. Dark Souls II!

Solaire isn’t supposed to drop his helmet thingy.
You have to kill those bugs behind him, and one of them is the helmet.
You can also buy a light spell from Dusk.

Divine weapons don’t kill ghosts without the curse. I believe they should do more damage on ghosts but I’m not sure.
The only weapons that damage ghosts without using curse are the cursed Greatsword of Artorias, jagged ghost blade and the ghost blade.

You can farm Dragon scales in the Valley of the drakes. It’s the place where you end up when you leave blighttown. There is a hidden bonfire there inbetween the forest and the blighttown exit.
Or you can join the Dragon covenant and PvP for the scales.

Do you know what loot is in it?

And it looks like I’ll be making a trip to Izalith then. It’s so far…o_O

Just a miracle, Great Magic Barrier.

Izalith has like… 4 boss fights including the Bed of Chaos and a bunch of strong enemies that don’t respawn like the Daughter of Chaos and all the Taurus Demon’s guarding that Large Ember.

It’s like the second to last place you’ll go, the last being Tomb of Giants, then you’ll go through the Kiln of the First Flame to face Gwyn. If you haven’t done Duke’s Archives / Crystal cave or Sif / Four Kings I’d advise you get that out of the way first.

If you do go to Izalith, Ceaseless Discharge isn’t that bad, just strafe and roll a lot and don’t bother locking on, the second boss is a stronger version of the one from the Asylum that does fire damage instead of magic and the third boss is nuts… the Centipede Demon is a stupidly hard fight if you’re not prepared for it, you kind of need to knock off a limb for the Charred Ring or summon Solaire or something.

Yeah, I’ve already knocked all of that out of the way. The hardest part about that area for me was the Chaos Bed or whatever the hell it’s called. You know, the big fiery pile of sticks.

I’m gonna go through ToTGs next. Maybe I’ll make a detour beforehand to go to the Asylum and farm some dragon scales in Drake Valley.

Well you should have the Sunlight Maggot, it’s a helmet, you get it for going past that big titanite demon, the one on the bridge where the shortcut is for the Chaos Servant covenant. That’s the light you need for Tomb of The Giants.

Killing both hydras net you a good chunk of dragon scales. Ash lake also has a healthy amount hidden around.

Yeah, Ash Lake is good for Dragon’s Scales for sure. Unfortunately you’ll eventually need to farm Valley of Drakes and even with the Covetous Serpents Ring, Symbol of Avarice and Humanity it takes forever.

Not as long as trying to get a Titanite Slab out of the Darkwraiths…

Funny story… I was farming those guys to try and get a Dark Hand. When I finally got one, the Dark Wraith dropped a slab as well.

You’re better off just doing throug the game and getting the 2 or 3 free ones then NG_+++ing it up. or not bothering to upgrade it to 15 unless its worth it.

Haha, damn… luck. It’s ridiculously hard to get them, I mean, there are 3 guaranteed ones each play-through pretty much, Siegemeyer, Asylum Demon and the chest near the Dragon in the expansion if you have it. Other than that… I mean, supposedly the lizard nest in the Great Hollow is pretty much a guaranteed drop… yeah, it’s not easy lol. Reminds me of farming that red eyed dual wield dude on the Shadow Isles in Demon’s Souls to try get a Pure Bladestone.

Speaking of that, my favourite PvE loadout used 3 of them,

I run Paladin’s Helm + Gauntlets +5, Elite Knights Chest + Legs +10, Dragonslayers Spear + 5, Silver Knights Shield +5 and a Longbow + 15. Build has 40 Stamina, Endurance, about 60 dexterity, 24 strength and 30 odd faith without any Resilience / Attunement / Intelligence. It’s a tank set up I used to beat NG+

Not to be a downer or Captain Obvious but that’s 20 DEX too much than absolute necessary.

I only had 14 humanity while farming them too. I only wanted a Dark Hand for the Ornstein build I’m doing. I know Ornstein doesn’t use a shield, so the Dark Hand would let me look bad ass while running around with the spear one handed anyway. Just gotta get some demon titanite and upgrade it.

Having no BB glitch to test out a new build is so inconvenient. :expressionless:

Yeah, more damage though, B scaling on the weapon and the bow has S scaling, can kill so much stuff before it reaches me. Not just running it for casting speed.

Scaling becomes very eh past 40 dex, diminishing returns kicks in and you get a lot less damage per point past there. Probably could have tossed 20 of that to vitality to round your build out. *well unless by stamina you meant vitality, then maybe could have a very healthy amount of spell slots if you dumped it into attunement; 6-8 ish.

Though casting speed acquired from dex caps at 45 for reference. Also Wrath of God isn’t affected by Dex’s boost to casting speed.

Yea. Anything past 40 for anything is just diminishing returns.
Only Vit really gets anything from going past 40.

Even vitality gets some hefty diminishing returns past 40.

Though equipload obtained from endurance doesn’t suffer from diminishing returns, however stamina gained from endurance caps past 40.

Dark Souls isn’t about levels but more about access to specific equipment, spells and knowledge in the attack patterns (which only comes with trial and error). More equipment means more strategies open up to be used. If you know what you need to do and come prepared, you can beat anything. That’s how people beat the game at level 1.

But overall I think you can divide everything into 3 types of strategy: 1. Play as a mobile pixie and learn to dodge everything. 2. Rush that shit down with maximum poise (super armor) and 20 flusks. 3. Keepaway.

If you can make decent weapons and get the suitable equipment for the above 3 strats, you can beat the game and the rest is up to your performance as a player.
