You can upgrade Lightning Weapons whenever however Dragon Slayer Ornstein is a lightning based boss and you’re not going to do a lot of damage against him using a Lightning Spear. I’m also 100% certain that boss fight was made to promote co-op because if you summon people it becomes much more managable. It’s not impossible by yourself but it feels a lot more fair in jolly co-operation.
I’m back to playing this again. Need to farm some materials for a bit and I just got to Anor Londo. Level 70.
Planning to start the game again, now focusing on building a character for PVP.
In DS, I use to play with two characters for PVPing. One with a Meat Cleaver build and one with the classic Mirdan Hammer Faith build.
Are there any builds similar in DkS? I am looking for a Melee build that preferably doesn’t need any buffs (Meat Cleaver build used them anyways) like the Miridan hammer.
Would you guys recommend me trying out the movesets of all the weapons (the good ones) to see which one I like best, or should I go with one of the already stablished “best” builds?
Test out movesets for sure, I had planned a strength build before my current Lifehunt Scythe build and was super annoyed to finally get the Man Serpent Sword and hate the moveset. You could always use the mudchan calculator to narrow your list of tests based on damage output though.
If I go for a DEX build, what are the best weapons to use?
And what could be a good build for the Gravelord Sword?
Uchigatana, Iaito, Murakumo are pretty popular DEX weapons. Iaito and Uchi is generally dependant on moveset preference (I like Uchi more tbh). Ricard’s Rapier with CMW is pretty devastating too. Scythe builds are also high on DEX obviously.
I’m making a DEX build with a Murakumo and a Washing Pole…yes it’s not original, but I’ve already pumped my STR to 20 so I figured they shouldn’t go to waste.
Trying to upgrade DMB as well. Getting 80 souvenirs of reprisals has been such a pain, not just because I suck but especially since the blue eye orb never finds a damn game for me to invade.
If I ever obtain it though, DMB along with Power Within sounds pretty amazing. Too bad everyone just turtles when you use PW lol.
daggers are pretty tight for dex builds. the black bow of faris (sp?) has an S modifier for dex. im not sure how good bows are in this game, im doing a dex/faith build right now and rock a bow once in a while but it’s pretty lame for anything that moves…semi quickly…and most boss fights it becomes irrelevant. in pvp it’s hard to hit anything with it, you actually have to have some skill to use a bow in a pvp and you cant solely rely on it.
speaking of pvp, i had some dude backstab me with a lightning axe a couple of nights ago that did 1800 damage, my whole life bar…i was like DAAAAAMN.

I use the Black Bow of Pharis when necessary in PvE or jolly co-operation and for the simple notion of keeping with the theme Priscilla’s dagger on my Lifehunt Scythe build (probably use a backup Uchi eventually). I don’t really recommend a dagger as a main weapon, but Priscilla’s and Parrying dagger are solid backup choices really.in a DEX build. Well parrying in your left can be pretty viable from what I’ve seen in some videos, but pointless in PvE really.
Daggers are fine for PvE as long as the enemy actually takes hitstun. But then the later game where most of the problem is, they don’t so yeah. They’re pretty good against those strange, purple, non-giant undead in Blighttown though
HOOKED on Demon’s lately. Going into Dark the moment I’m done, have the LE’s of both! Fantastic series, REALLY glad to hear it sold well in the West.
Finished the game and going to either make a strength based or magic character. Relied too much on quick weapons or ones that can be used while blocking. Only spells I really used was power within which didn’t help me in the fight I needed help in.
What is a good strength weapon that can be one handed? I like to counter, but might end up just using two handed weapons through the game now.
Playing through NG++, almost finished, farming for trophies now, LVL510.
wait, what? level 510!!! wtf!!! how in the world did you do that, farming in pve or souls from pvps?
the black knight great axe is a pretty good strength weapon

As a faith/dex guy, I’ve recently found a love for the Crescent Axe. I think I picked it up after I ripped 7 souls out of Patches (bought all the gear from him, and was still pissed after his BS in the catacombs, though I expected it after Demon’s Souls).
I pretty much ignored it and then one day was going through shit to put in my bottomless box and saw it scaled with Faith. Nice, wide swing, decent attack speed, slow stamina usage, R1 doesn’t bounce when hitting walls (R2 does for some reason), etc.
Anyone else use it?
I’m still on my 1st playthrough. Just got the Lordvessel, SL 81 and I still have some things to do. I LOVE using my Lightning Bastard Sword+2 and I need to gain more levels to use the Cursed Greatsword of Artorias+4. I’ll need it once I get to New Londo Ruins since it can attacks ghosts and the attack power is pretty decent for where I stand right now. I really want to get summoned more and more but I haven’t been having much luck lately.
I had the exact same plan - made the Cursed Greatsword of Artorias and then realized I didn’t have the stats to wield it (the x-18-18-18 is a dick move!)
IMO, you’re really better off grinding souls and buying about 10 Transient Curse and equipping the golden covetous ring. Transient’s seemingly drop alllll the time in there, and once it’s drained you won’t need them as much. I went in with 5 and came out with 20, but not sure if that’s just luck or what.
I was a total lightning spear whore until I found that the crescent axe fit my build and playstyle more. Lightning is really the way to play through this game unless you’re straight Dex, and then I guess the Queelag Chaos Blade is more fitting (just theorycrafting here, haven’t played through with that build yet)
The more I play the game, the better it gets. It’s kinda weird.
At SL 81 you should try the Duke’s Archives, I’ve been chilling there the last 5-8 hours I’ve played getting summoned for Seath runs. Nets a good amount between the way there, Seath, and your typical invader.
I’m SL 88, but with really good gear so it’s not really a problem
Curious is it still possible in this patch to snag that drake sword by hitting off the drakes tail on the bridge?
You mean shooting arrows at it from under the bridge or chopping it off melee? Either way yeah that’s the only way to get the Drake Sword.
