Alright, lately I’ve been evaluating my gameplay in 3s, and my play seems to be rather lopsided when it comes to overall offense/defense. I seem to play way more aggressive due to the fact that my defense is horrible…What are some tips when it comes to beefin up the defense? I’m a Chun player btw, and I’m not asking for turtle tactics, I’d just like to know what’s the best way to increase my defense so that it’s “High-Level play” worthy.
I do like playing Chun aggressively, but I’d like to be able to have the option to change gears, without being wtfpwned, and without resorting to flat out turtling.
(Oh, and let’s try to keep the asshole like comments to a minimum.)
wait and block high lows on reaction, and late tech throws.
true chun defense is difficult because she lacks a “cover all bases” anti air attack, if you want to be a “high level” chun player, being able to consistently anti air them is extremely important.
back fierce xx legs, parry, walk under throw/s.rh/c.mk, s.lp, late c.mk, c.rh, s.fp straight up j.rh, air throw sometimes.
Get busy zoning. If you’re in an ideal position, you’re already well guarded. After that, comes reacting, which is relative to the pressure you’re under and unpredictability of your opponent. Be in charge of zoning and call the shots.
What do you do when you’re cornered in SFII against Guile? Let him throw a fireball and wait for your jump. When he’s waiting with an anti-air, you’re back in control.
Aside from basic blocking is to keep the enemy away using something I use a lot as a Chun Li player distance. I am not very good at parrying but I made conscious effort to learn to parry projectiles while I stayed away from the enemy until they finally charged me. If they jumped at me I use a standing MK or FP and these basic moves hits them away more often then not. By hitting them out of the air and staying out of their attack range blocking or parrying projectiles, they have only one option to charge you on the ground and Chun Li’s ground game is rock solid. I play a defensive minded Chun Li for the most part and win using these basic strategies. I even use the Super Art 3 to make people think twice about jumping even more, it is my favorite SA aside from Super Art 1 it is another great anti air move Chun Li has.
