Hey I’m very new to super street fighter 4 and everytime I play against ryu or ken they can easily punish my heavy air kick with Sakura. As well when I miss my shoryuken move they could shoryuken me again and I have a hard time blocking it? Is there any tips on blocking shoryuken punish or avoiding it in anyway?!
when they’re close, be VERY careful about what you throw out. generally the best way to beat shoryuken is to never attack while one is being done. however it’s impossible to know every single time a player will choose to do shoryuken. so instead you fight that by fighting from a distance or using attacks that go through fireballs.
That, or never drop a combo. You’ll be sure to especially online. You can also do a combo string, then intentionally gap the string the next time you use it. If you get SRK’d during your purposefully gapped string and you block it, you can return with something particularly nasty. You are welcome.
Thanks guys but somehow the cpu is just pissing me off the most. Im always afraid to start my combos in the air because of the shoryukens and you cant crouch block shoryukens right?
You can crouch block them all day. You can’t crouch block jump-ins though. Don’t play the CPU, because it reads your inputs then calculates the best possible outcome for the given situation. Also, don’t EVER jump at any Shoto player. They can’t be safe jumped EVER.
I dont know what you’re asking
Well you can fake safe-jump them. That means that you can throw out an attack that looks like it will hit them as they get up, but it won’t. They will still whiff if they DP. Works wonders against scrubs.
the CPU? it’s programmed to land certain shoryukens. humans can’t do this though. if you want to avoid a comp’s certain shoryuken, just avoid being in shoryuken range
Someone needs to make a DON’T USE THE CPU gif or something for this board.
I’ve found that one of the easiest things to overlook when you’re new is zoning. There’s a tendency to think that you need to be right in your opponents face to attack and in my experience, that’s one place where shoto punishing shines. I love when I’m playing any shoto and someone tries to stay in my face… just mash out DP during their block string and when they drop the combo… BOOM!!!
Certain chars can safe jump them (Chun, Fei, a few more)
If you are both standing, use your spacing tools to get closer to them. Fireballs, pokes, footsies are all basic things to learn first when fighting shotos. If your char is good at zoning and doesn’t need to be close to win, then you shouldn’t need jump-ins anyway. After knocking them down, be right outside their DP range and neutral jump (strait up) as they are getting up. They will usually, on reaction to your jump, DP and you can punish accordingly.
Another thing you can do is stand over them after KD and block, backdash, or focus charge as they DP. I don’t recommend focusing online due to lag and a much harder guessing game, but during versus its a better shot.
Btw, who are you using? We can probably give char specific advice for fighting them too.
