Dee's Nuts: The Definitive Match-Up Thread

True say. I’ve found Kens to be predictable to a fault, but that might just be because everyone and their grandmother plays Ken. I did too.

A note about Claw, I’ve found that st. hp works very well at stuffing Barcelona Dives. If you time it right, you can get a counter, as well, which means easy EX sobat juggle times, if you’ve got meter. And to be honest, once you’ve got a Claw player scared of flying around, you’ve won more than half the battle. Good tip on the lk sobat to counter claw’s cr. mp too ryodragoon.

Now I need some help against Bison’s corner game. Any tips on how to escape? And any good strategies to punish headstomps? The best I can seem to do is just slide to avoid them.

The best way to get out of bison’s corner game is honestly not to get in it in the first place; use DJ’s lp maxouts to zone the hell out of bison (till he has U2) and use a lot of air crossups/short hops. However, once you are trapped there are a couple options to you, all of them risky.

Between the non-punishable lk scissor kick, random tick throw, and focus attack pressure you have a hell of a hard time getting out. Depending on how predictable your bison opponent is, EX sobat stuffs at least 2 of his options on wake-up, and if he jumps in you will sail away from harm’s way. HK upkicks will also take you out of the corner, albeit leaving you open to a punish once you land (this is a very bad idea especially if bison has U2 ready).

I highly suggest you give my thread about sobat pressure a read, as this can also help you out of the corner and gain some breathing space. Basically make sure bison is far away enough that your lk sobat is nonpunishable - this would be a c.lk’s distance away. You can c.lk bison until he is that distance away, and then play the timing game I discuss in that thread. Either way, you need to weigh the costs/risks here.

As for bison’s head stomp, depending how far away he is when he starts the jump you can simply jump back and use mk or some other air attack. If bison initiated head stomp from close, lk upkick that stuff. Not sure about EX head stomp… though blocking works of/c.

If you DO find yourself stuck in the corner against a pressuring Bison, watch his distance. If he keeps spamming lk strings to lk scissors, he’ll eventually push himself far enough away that you have a little breathing room and his c.lk’s will start whiffing.

step kick is standing mk correct?

and what about on wake up vortex vs ken? hes beating me with wake up srk (auto corrects too)

If their wake up happy, empty jump in block then punish, then they’ll start to think twice about dping, then you can start to attack when you jump in again.

Ex Sobat is better against Abel’s U2. It is faster than the EX Max out and if Abel cancels his ultra he would still get punished

Jcool813 (DeeJay) vs PunkJewd (Ken)

this was me. i’m better now.

What’s up MuayGio, I almost jumped into your ranked game last night but got the dreaded “could not join” message. Just as well, cos I don’t even like Dee Jay mirror matches.

With Bison, when you are trapped in the corner I find you can shut out lk scissors very easily with cr.lp. I will tap cr.lp at intervals I expect him to scissor me. As soon as you shut it down with cr.lp, immediately instant knee shot him and follow with 2 cr.lp’s which puts you at good distance for the j.mk cross us and straight out of the corner.

That’s a neat tactic, Canton, I’ll be sure to try it out. Cheers!

And if I do catch you on a match online, I’ll be sure to field my Guile or Rose. Bit rusty (my Rose’s been around since Alpha 3) but I agree, more fun than a mirror match.

far standing mk beat ibuki’s neckbreaker, even the EX version.

Ex version neckbreaker is fast as hell though.

Also far standing MK stuffs Tatsumakis (hurricane kicks), Bison pycho crusher, Blanka horinzontal balls, and probably a lot of other stuff.

Thing is you have to be expecting it and time it right, so bait it out and stuff it.

why would you use far st.mk over cr.hp?

I second that. Is the timing easier?

^^
Some people crouch on reaction, so its 1) safer 2) does more dmg and 3) positioning!

I’m having trouble with Guile’s, Chun Li’s and Shoto footies. I can’t seem to play a footies game unless I have them in the corner. Mid screen I eat their pokes since they have more range. Any tips?

standing mk and standing lk beats or trades w/ all cr shoto moves.

i haven’t played any good guiles or chuns.

I have. I’ll post some Chun strats here pretty soon.

Sorry I’ve been out of the loop for a couple of days.
Been dealing with a cyber-stalker. No lie.

So I’m seeing a ton of individual questions about certain match-ups but, thus far, nothing as in depth as I’d hoped to put into match-up sections. I’ll be spending some time after work tonight testing some of the posts I’ve missed as well as posting the Gen and Rog strats that I quoted on the page before this one.

Nice to see so much enthusiasm for our underrated hero!

Dee Jay is Ibuki’s kryptonite. You can upkick through her kunai mixups, inbetween her spinning kicks on block, everything lol. I’m finding this a very easy matchup due to the sickness of Dee Jays dread kick on crossup. Just keep max outs sparse, and watch if they got super. If they have full meter, she’s going to overhead > super you.
