Dee's Nuts: The Definitive Match-Up Thread

I have some info on Guile and Bison, punishes and stuff.

U2 after Focus Attack is really easy. You just need to know how to buffer a down back charge after the dash forward. You have all the time in the world to charge. There is a BIG window to use your U2, and you don’t need to do it that early. You can literally pick the character off of the ground with the ultra.

Everybody should be able to do it. The only tricky parts are buffering the charge after the dash, and not doing the U2 motion too early.

icecold sent you a PM so we can try and get this thread’s match ups goin

Hi Guys

Been lurking for a bit, decided to register and get in on the dee jay loveliness.

I think Dee Jay is an absolutely brilliant matchup with Zangief, from what I’ve seen. Cr.Fk cuts down all his lariats, which are pretty easily baited with max outs, and lk dread kicks’ insane priority means he can’t really jump in either. As long as you can tell when he’s going for an ex chernobyl fist, I haven’t had any problems at all, at least with the giefs I fought. What about other people?

I have been having a lot of trouble with bison though, his headstomp especially. What’s the easiest way to counter this that people have found?

Also, this may sound like a really stupid question, but how do you charge buffer?

Cheers guys!

Dee Jay can zone the shit out of Gief, but SPD is an ever present threat.

Vs Bison headstomp, you can slide to evade it, or block the headstomp then slide to counter the follow-up or whatever he does. EX Upkick is a solid counter too, as long as you wait long enough to acknowledge he didn’t do devil’s reverse to bait it out.

Charge characters don’t have as easy of a time buffering motions as QCF characters do, because you have to dedicate abandoning charge for one move over another (unless buffering U2, you can retain down charge for upkick). But as far as doing U2, you only get one shot for a few seconds to buffer the motion before trying to buffer it again. What I do after buffering U2, but the other player doesn’t do anything it would punish, I go straight to down back, possibly poke or back up.

Aside from ultra/super buffer, normal charge moves are easy enough to execute, which explains why buffering them is basically impossible.

Balrog: if he ex. dash punches from 3/4 to fullscreen just throw him, timing is easy. Dont bother ex. maxout as he will hit you before the second shot even comes out. also i tested ex. sobat, and Rog’s ex dash punch beat it every time. block if it is close throw if you can see it coming.

Gen

For Gen:

Don’t engage him in a poking game - his pokes are extremely good and cream Dee Jay’s. The occasional cr.mk is fine but generally you’re better off backdashing to safety where you can zone with max outs. If he hits you with a st.mk (only 5 frame start-up), he can buffer a Gekiro into it and really ruin your day. If he hits you with a cr.mp (a fast poke with a great hitbox and excellent range) he can combo into his rolling attack.

Zone Gen all day with max outs. He is one of the few characters in the game without a reliable way of dealing with fireballs except FADC and n.jumping (on crane stance he can do a cr.mk to go under but it isn’t a particularly useful tool). If he jumps towards you over the max out then reaction jump forward and fierce punch anti air him. Dee Jay’s jump fierce beats all of Gens air attacks - inc his own mighty jump fierce. I don’t find slide very good in the match up as I am rarely able to activate it fast enough (Gen jump is STILL GOOD - just not as good as vanilla) and he ends up blocking / punishing.

For his diagonal wall dive oga, you can beat it out with lk/ex jackknife, a well timed max out or st. mp / st. mk (both risky - but if you’re on the ball and don’t have charge they are handy). I imagine cr.fp works too but I don’t use it personally.

Once you have him down, cross him up to begin the vortex but don’t go mad with it. I find I have the best results trying one or two jumps until I either knock him down or he blocks everything and I make a hasty retreat to a place that I can begin safely zoning him again. Remember Gen has a solid dragon punch with his Gekiro and an excellent backdash. If you can get some tasty vortex damage then go for it - but I wouldn’t abuse this technique against good Gen’s.

I don’t recommend throwing out many sobat kicks unless he is very focus happy in which case they are useful to keep him honest. If you do throw one out, be particularly careful to space them correctly. As noted above, his pokes are fast and can be cancelled into very damaging specials no matter what stance he is in.

Gens also have a habit of jumping a lot. He has two great cross-ups and can combo into his crouching light kick (which launches) and then into super/ultra. Dee Jay’s strength here is his jackknife. No other character in my opinion has the luxury of such a powerful anti cross-up tool. If you’re ever going to use it - its likely going to be against Gen.

Also, Gen’s cr.hk in crane stance is an amazing anti air and will beat out practically everything. I have traded with it on a few rare occasions but usually only because they have not timed it correctly or the angle is a bit odd.

I don’t use many offensive FA’s against Gen. He has a lot of ways to break armour and make you pay for it… and when he has ultra forget about it altogether.

Which brings me to my final point. As with any character fighting against Gen, be particularly wary of him when he has ultra/super. Gen’s super’s are tremendously powerful and really change how you should treat him during a match. A good Gen lands these bad boys often so be careful not to make any obvious jumps or let him combo you into a juggle state (his cr. lk). He can and will land a cross-up j.mk into cr.lk into mantis super into crane ultra on a regular basis and it will wreck your health bar. Just be warned that Gen has amazing come-back potential if you are not vigilant.
If he has ultra 2, just be wary of throwing max outs when he has ultra or or throwing out any moves while he is in the air.

Note:
A lot of this is basic info and I’ll probably have to add more detail later for it to be particularly useful. I didn’t go into detail on what stance he has to be in as good Gens change stance at a moments notice. Just assume that he has access to pretty much all of his moves at all times.
If anyone has a particular question they want to know about this match-up just shoot.

Well Metro answered if you mean buffering charge moves into normals but if you just mean buffering charge into stuff, well just return to down back asap when you come out from it, you can do max outs with <><:p: to help this.

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone has any tips for the DeeJay vs Guile matchup? This is one of my toughest matches and any Guile with moderate skills can kick my ass. I have no idea how to pressure in this match… everything he has can counter DJ in some way. How do you guys go about this matchup?

Blanka

-Punish Horizontal Ball (block) with EX Dreads or on (block) in the corner with cr. HK, HK Dread, EX MGU > EX/HK Upkick/U2.
At full screen you can stuff all versions with spam/mash cr. LP or if you see it coming stuff it with cr. HP or LK/EX Upkick. It’s best to spam cr. LP out of range of his long range sweep.

-Punish Vertical (Rainbow) Ball on (block) with walk forward cr. HK, HK/EX Dreads, jump forward LP/MK or walk forward LP/MP and try for a reset with an ambiguous crossup.
You can also stuff all versions with LK/EX Upkick, or with jump back HP/HK/LP. Just be careful with EX version.

-Vs. Electricity just use cr. MK from max range, and go for maxout mixups. Don’t be predictable with jump ins, or you’ll get electrocuted.

I’m not too sure on this match up, but you Dee Jay can fight pretty good from max range, especially if you have EX meter. Get a life lead and play keep away. Stuff or punish vertical/horizontal balls, bait jump ins with max outs but don’t get predictable.

some small tips from me.

ABEL:
Remember that start up of LK sobat is unthrowable.
if he does random U2, try and throw EX Max out ASAP, or LK sobat him in the face if youre feeling boss.

IBUKI:
REVERSAL MK UPKICK/EX SOBAT > VORTEX. ALL DAY ERRY DAY.

CLAW:
LK Sobat > Claw cr. MP - Sail over that bitch and kick him in the face.

I don’t think EX Max Out would work very good, but maybe. I think I’d rather jump back or do HK Upkick

Any tips for dealing with Ken and that constant f+MK pressure he puts out. I’m not sure if it’s safe to throw anything out and I find myself getting locked down when a Ken starts up block strings with the little f+MK “push kick” attack he has. I end up sitting around in block and getting thrown for it. Just curious if you guys know anything that’s good enough to deal with it. I’m going to check out some frame data and see if I can figure something out too.

I never have problems with Ken’s pokes. Apply your own pressure with cr.lk, cr.lp, cr.mk, xup mk, instant knee shot and lk sobats. They won’t all beat f+mk with the exact timing and range but it should shut him down.

How the %$#< do you beat el fuerte?

Guess right on Wakeup? I’ve not really had Problems with Fuerte, but I haven’t played many good ones. I think you can c.HK or Sobat his runs can’t you?

@Jables if Ken gets predictable with f. MK, then hit him with a focus attack, or FA backdash. Don’t be predictable with this though, sometimes just regular backdash after he dashes forward, or just block.

There’s more truth to this than most people realize. For some reason, last night, there were tons of Balrogs in Ranked matches. Meaning I had a chance to test most of this out. Having said that, it’s going in the Balrog match-up.

Luckily, most of Balrog’s moves are fairly linear. It’s easy to spot the difference between a rushing high and a rushing low on reaction. But let him corner you and take the offensive and you’ll find yourself at the WRONGEST end of a very pointy stick.

Thanks for your contribution!

Nice job, Sir Pants. This one is going right into the Gen match-up section.
Thanks for your contribution.

id like to see a more Ken matchups pls  c.mk is hurting me baad!

its seriously not that hard of a match up.

Most go for the step kick then the low kick.

after the step kick lands hit him with a lk sobat
