Dee's Nuts: The Definitive Match-Up Thread

You play sagat kind of like playing guile, just back him into the corner dodging fireballs. You don’t want to be obvious that you want to get in on him, neutral jump some fireballs, fireball his fireballs, focus absorb some. Take ur time and walk him toward the corner, but when he’s close to the corner he might try to jump over you and go the other way so be ready to anti air with a normal or w/e.

If you block a tiger knee that hits twice you should be able to cr. MK, cr. MP > combo, or even reversal U2. EX version is not punishable. If the tiger knee hits just once you can’t punish it, it has to hit twice. 1 time = safe, 2 times = punishable.

Against tiger knee pressure you can do cr. MK or cr. MP > max out/whatever after a blocked tiger knee that hits once to beat if he goes for another cr. LK or normal, but you have to do it right after you get out of block stun. cr. MK after a blocked tiger knee beats if sagat goes for another tiger knee. This is what I wrote down from testing, but I’m not 100% sure cuz I tested it a long time ago.

Also knee shot will lose/trade with sagats HK in his favor, so be careful. If he whiffs one, you can cr. HK him on reaction. Poke with LK sobat, cuz its safe from max distance and you might get lucky and go over a low tiger shot.

Seth. Seth is the reason why I could never play in tourneys or arcades. I will go oldschool and straight sock somebody right at the cabinet. I’ve got whooped on by Seth so many times, I’m good at defending him for a little bit… but that’s all I can do. I can’t mount any offence.

Seths jump-ins kill me. His jump fierce kill me when I try to jump over fireballs. His Low fierce beats everything. His head stomp jump in beats up kicks, even EX ones. His shoryu is so high priority, it could hit Jesus out the heavens. If he doesn’t feel like doing Shoryu on me he can just teleport.

By the time I actually figure out how to get in, he’s built up so much meter that he’s doing all types of funky combos on me.

If I survive his cross ups and block strings, I get to eat a command throw.

No FUCK THAT… how bout I punch your face off in REAL LIFE SON! <- Salty help before I hurt somebody. LOL.

Deejay has a real problem building meter too. Anybody else feel this way? I spend so much ex going through fireballs or stopping jump ins by round 2 even if I win, my opponent has like 3 bars and I have NONE.

this all seems basic to me.

i did not use sobats at all. didn’t want him to learn how to punish it because the move that punishes that completely rapes deejay.

lk sobat can be TU’d i think.

after going to a tournament with dash ultra in my arsenal it wasn’t enough. it won me my first two sets, but when i played high level players in bad matchups it didn’t matter. deejay needs buffs or i’m going to just play yun or guile in tourney and deejay in matchups i like. i was trying to do the whole japanese one character thing but its not easy with deejay.

edit:
on a more positive not i landed ex mgu dash ultra in tourney and blew everyone’s minds. As soon as i dashed i heard everyone saying is that going to work? then bam. they went ape shit.

still need work on my deejay.

anybody here alt sagat?

i alt cammy =/

What problems are you having against Sagat? Are you rushing down? Are you turtling or playing ST style?

tiger knee pressure.
i know why i got hit with counter hit setups. i need to stop pressing buttons.

i was turtling.

Wish I could help, man. I haven’t faced any good Sagats, so I really can’t help at all. :frowning:

Seth is an annoying asshole. but a good thing to know is that Deejays j.LK beats a lot of his air stuff. like if the throws a fireball and does his J.HP to hit you, or if he wallbounces to try to stomp you. it can beat it EASY.

If youre getting shoryu’d. youre doing it wrong, trying jumping earlier, Seths SRK isnt 3frame start-up, so it can be beat. if he teleports, just dash and then slide, it should catch him in that long recovery he has.

if you do get in on him and get combos, just combo to sweep, unless your gonna go for U2. keep him near you. if you knock him away, thats just what he wants.

Edit:
I kinda agree with Jcool. Deejay is hard to play cause his bad matchups against the good characters. just a couple days ago I decided to use fei in a tourney cause my deejay isnt too great atm. and I got 3rd. EASY. it sucks

J. lk doesn’t beat that head stomp business. Unless I was doing that wrong too (probably). The Seth I was facing would jump in on me while i was in stun from Sonic boom. Crouching would make me eat J. fp

Another thing that would kill me is if I get pushed into corner and he does head stomp, combos it seems like when he crosses over, I can’t EVER block d/b even the other direction though I know he’s gonna do it. I’m damn near hang off the side of my joystick.

Off Topic… I was facing a pretty aggressive Bison who would rarely drop his block strings against my Dee Jay. I spent time experimenting any ways to beat his scissor kick loop. Mid screen I was getting out of it w/ instant Jump Back MK. I don’t know if Bisons S. HK or S. MK would beat it, and I’m pretty sure he woulda figured out how to terrorize me if I spammed it, but I figure it’s worth the mention so others can expand or debunk.

ok so there is footage of my getting raped by that sagat. its not for the weak of heart. i’ll post it here later. I need the harshest criticism possible.

things i know.
i kept falling for the mash up. i thought he’d stop but didn’t
his friends were yelling mid match so i let them in my head.
you’ve seen me play before. i’m not bad. no pro or anything but don’t take away my credibility. . .please lol

Super Street Fighter 4 Tournament, Super Street Fighter 4 Tournament at Vernon Battlegrounds Redman061 on USTREAM. Gaming Entertainment

about 35 minutes in. I’ve never played a good sagat since i’ve gotten decent at street fighter. only when i was a balrog scrub so this wall kind of all new to me.

critic please.

he read your air slasher patterns pretty quickly, that’s why you got hit by the two tiger cannons. I say you need to pay attention to his meter more.

Stay just outside of his f. hk range and stay there. don’t knee shot in or try to crossup, sagat’s high hitbox means he recovers from blockstun quicker = you getting tiger uppercutted. Hold your ground and force a jump.

But yeah i wouldn’t attribute the loss to the matchup or your weakness, I would say he was just very perceptive in picking up patterns/guessing. You were playing your general deejay game, not really paying attention to the character. I make the same mistake, sometimes when you want to do something to keep them on their toes (throw an air slasher) it’s better to not do it.

That’s pretty much the most critical i could be, your deej is better than mine so lol

Put it this way: leaving that match, did you pick up any patterns on his playstyle? He essentially just reacted to whatever you did with his own stuff, you were too busy trying to get in combo setups to actually notice his midscreen game.

thanks threi.
i appreciate it.
better than your deejay? i’m flattered. only difference i feel is dash ultra, but we’ve never played.
Closer to playing on 360 tho. Just got a 360 stick TE for 30 dollars.

i learned i need to stop pressing buttons.
you explained exactly how i was playing perfectly. i need to learn how to adapt.

I’m a true combo fiend hence why i spent so many hours in training mode learning the forbidden technique.

@jcool. You missed some punishes, and also you need to AA with normals more. You were trying to hold down charge to get upkicks, but sometimes you wouldn’t have enough time to charge and you end up just eating a big ass combo.

If they’re reading you and beating you at ur own game, I think you should just play more patient. Wait for them to make a move, don’t always jump forward over fireballs, you can stall them, build some Ultra. idk just switch it up.

  1. Watch your patterns with the air slashers as others pointed out. He just read you like a book.

  2. Be patient. It seemed like his tiger shot game was pretty on point and it looked like you got frustrated. Rather than earning your way in you tried to force it and got AA’d. All he did was prove you couldn’t win the fireball war then waited for you to jump in and punished it.

  3. Saw you cross up into the corner a few times. You were working so hard to get in and get combos when you should have tried to hold sagat in the corner and fight your way in. He blocked your string and it was right back to tiger shot games.

  4. I feel in this matchup you HAVE to pick U1. I know you’re the GOD of ex.mgu, dash, climax beat. But you never got in. U1 will at least keep his tiger shots honest and allow you to work your way in and get a chance at some combos.

  5. Watch your spacing. Once in the first round and at the beginning of the last round you threw out an AS and he jumped in over it. Also, if you are going to take U2, try to space it so you can react to tiger shots with ex.sobat or slide on reaction to go through them and hit him (you did that in the first round).

  6. Mix up the block strings. You kept having your jump ins blocked and just did a few jabs then cr.mk or something. Try baiting a TU by NOT hitting a button after the jump in. When you do get a blocked jump in into a blocked jab or two, try walkup throw. Or try empty jump into throw. Just do something different

While I’m in the match up thread…

Against Ibuki: If Ibuki does that move where she jumps on your head and stomps a few times, does lk.upkick on reaction beat it? Do I need to use EX or just block high and not try to counter that?

Against Juri: I’m not sure how to get in on Juri. I played one this morning who was pretty good at spacing. Stood at a range throwing fireballs where it was a free jump in if I used AS to counter it. When I caught on he went full screen and just tried to bait me into jumping and fished for jump back divekicks. I know Juri’s pretty free on wakeup, so once I get that knockdown I think I’m good, but what’s the best way to get in on Juri? Slide under mid/high fireballs and knee shot over low ones? Just walk forward and bulldog her? Do standing mp and hp stuff any of her airborne moves?

Against ibuki, yes lk/ex upkick works against it. only time it can miss is when they do it close and she comes down at a steep angle. I think only EX might work then.

as for Juri, I think just walking her to the corner seems good. since AS is just free dive kicks for her. she can easily punish sobat, jumps get stuffed by her awesome c.HP or EX pinwheel. lk sobat can go over her low fireballs too. I dont have too much experience against her so I dont have too much to say
