DeeJay General Discussion

How is walking closer a waste of time? Have you tried it?

Just to clarify Shakka, the first part of a frame trap is putting your opponent at a frame disadvantage, hopefully without their full realisation. The second part involves using another move which you anticipate has a startup that is quicker than your opponent’s poke, taking into account the frame advantage you gained from your previous move.

In essence, you’re using the frame advantage the first move gave you to beat your opponent’s poke with a move that normally wouldn’t beat it. Walking forward can be key part of frame trapping for a few reasons: 1. It can fool your opponent into thinking you’re going for a throw; 2. It re-establishes range in case you want, say, cl. mk instead of far mk.; 3. It moves your opponent closer to the corner and pressures them.

Walking closer to the opponent doesn’t mean you’re no longer engaging in frame traps. If you do cl. HK on block, I believe you’re left with +2 advantage. This means you’re probably not going to beat, say Balrog’s cr. lp with your cl. mk, but you might well beat it with cr. lp, even if you walk forward a little. And that’s just against pretty much the best poke in the game.

Personally for me, I don’t typically use s.rh when vs an opponent. I’ve tried it and just doesn’t seem to be viable. Although it can be utilized in certain matchups, I just don’t use it.

I seriously have to stop jumping in with short hop lol…Also, I notice a lot of players trying to cross up in the corner…That needs to stop. I tend to do it as well, but it just puts you at risk…

Hmm I’m confused by MGU knockdown times. Light is the longest, medium middle, heavy shortest, but it’s hard for me to accurately judge how many frames everything is. There is obviously safejump potential there.

i’d rather take the heaviest for more damage and go for knee shot safe jump or just meaty fireball

probably, depends if there is any tricky ambiguous stuff in the corner really.

Hello I am new to the forums and am working on being the best dee jay i can be. I have been reading the dee jay threads for awhile to up my game, and i have to say it has taught me a whole new dimension to my playstyle. I wanted to say thank you to everyone for all the info that made me a better all around player.

Ditto to what this guy said.
I haven’t been around since before SRK updated their forums, but after 2012 dropped I’ve been lurking like a mofo.

Great info available, gg guys!

glad we’re adding another dimension to your playstyle.

too many one dimensional deejays. I can go from zoning to rushdown to turtling in teh same match.
i’ve seen many a deejay stick to the same style win lose or draw.

i propose da knut, hatrify, and myself find 3 great dudley players and do a team battle. . .for my youtube channel lol

That’s the truth and i must admit i was guilty of that single minded play style. But now i started to mix it up i’m getting more wins, and i actually got the dash ultra combo to work a couple times on pad.

there’s only 2 good Dudleys on XBL tho
and I dont play fer youtibe.

Since question wasnt answered in uh… uh… the ultra thread

Can Deejay still EX Max out > Ultra 1 link?

still does and its still hard as shit.

didn’t ask if you wanted to play, but obviously you must be one of the good ones if you’re assuming i’m talking to you.

I want want in if this Team Battle goes down lol. My DeeJay may be ass but it’ll still be a good chance to get some Dudley play in.

Hopefully my miniscule points won’t ruin the image of other high level DeeJay players.

ill play anyone as long as nothin ends up on youtube

why? you play in tournament? pride?

I dont like the drama that follows.

Lol its the internet, but if that’s how you feel then I’ll have to respect it.

Scrubs’ll always be on the prowl to troll, but most non-beginners that are Youtube-ing SF4 by now should know enough about the game to not be ignorant of how much they still have a lot to learn about the game.

Or we can at least hope so.

Jump lp has longer reach than his other air normals. It’s a great tool to use when you feel like any of your other jump ins might wiff and you don’t want to give up pressure. On a related note, neutral jump mk got some nice range on it too.
