DeeJay General Discussion

I do that shit with Dhalsim but Dee Jay’s slide is just way too slow. Anytime I slide under a Jump in they seem to be able to land Taunt then Sweep before I’m finished.

I’ve got a pretty nice Samsung 22" with a 2ms latency which is really nice for SF.

Also, I was in training mode earlier and found a pretty cool combo you guys might be able to use.

Basicaly the close standing medium kick links into the crouching medium punch, it feels like a 2 frame link but I haven’t checked the data.

So a good strong combo is j.HK, clst.MK, c.MP xx Sobat
Or j.HK, clst.MK, c.MP xx Air Slasher FADC c.lp, c.lp, c.mk
j.HK, c.lp, clst.MK, c.MP xx Air Slasher FADC c.lp, c.lp xx EX MGU

Or if you want to get silly you can j.HK c.lp, clst.mk, c.mp xx Air Slasher FADC c.lp, c.lp, c.mp xx EX AS, EX Sobat/U1
Or j.HK c.lp, clst.mk, c.mp xx Air Slasher FADC c.lp, c.lp xx EX MGU, U2

The only 2 usefull ones are the first two really.

J.hk, clst.mk, c.mp xx ex As, Ex sobait also works

cl.st.mk has the same advantage as cr.lp so

cl.st.mk, cr.mp -> 1 frame link
cl.st.mk, cr.lp -> 3 frame link
cl.st.mk, cr.mk -> 2 frame link

EDIT: thanks for the correction Jcool

Fixed

Ah, it’s 1 frame. It felt more like a 2 in terms of how consistant I could hit it. Still, it’s not a bad little combo. They should really speed up the start of the c.mp. It would be much better.

ggs icefusion. Your DJ gets my DJ seal of approval. You were taking me pretty good. I wanted to play you with more characters but I wanted to keep playing the mirror match, cuz I hardly ever play good DJ’s. I was playing crappy though, I went 0 for 2 on dash ultras, and overall just playing sucky. You did good though, lots of knee shot > cr. LP > cr. MP > fireball > super. I don’t think you dropped that link once.

AND after playing the mirror match, I’ve determined the winner in DJ vs. DJ is whoever can throw the most knee shots. I could not react to them fast enough, the only thing I could react with was EX upkick. Maybe offline its different idk.

Yeah, most characters have like super fast startup on their moves, but not DJ. It’s sad whenever you look at DJ’s frame data vs. other characters.

I was wondering whether jhp clp mk sobat was used a lot by you guys? It’s a nice easy 280 damage off a jump in without any meter, and better than the jhp clp clp mgu. I use this a lot as I suck at the clp cmp 1 frame link.

I don’t do it too often, because I suck at hit confirming.

You get 3 hits to hit-confirm though, and I use jmk mk cmk as a hit confirm too (change the cmk to a clp AS if blocked and I didn’t cross up).

gg brah, you let me get the upper hand by keeping you playing defensive. You had some nice tick throws though and i was feeling the meaty cr lk on my wake up. After playing dj I feel like the only char I could play is rose. I think my cammy suffered lol.

I would do adon, but nahhhhh
edit: I should make a dee jay av, but cant find any good dj sprites :frowning:

Monthly tournament time again.

Not a great showing by me.

I got bodied by Bison, Makoto, Akuma, Gen and (the same) Ibuki.

My only half decent performances were against Gouken, Chun Li and Guy (and I lost the last one there anyway).

Keep going CP, I was looking for vids from Inferno 14 (the tournament you were referring to I think) but no joy. Darktalents Ibuki is very tough to beat and I heard you have a tough group also.

We must have a few games, I’ll keep a look out for you.

Since I hav returned from holidays, I have been working on DeeJays vortex and I am quite happy with it so far. I can see that it is giving players alot of trouble and the knee shot is catching people very well. However, while good opponents seem to respect the vortex, I am having SERIOUS trouble with players who are spamming SRK, Cannon Spike, Pinwheel Kick etc during my block string. Any advice on what to do? I’m naturally an agressive player but I’m wondering if turtling is the way to go here?

you have two options for this problem you can either:
A. hit the j. mk later so that the back of the hitbox is hitting the opp, thus knocking them out of the air but also not trading
B. empty jump more in order to bait dps, pinwheel, upkick, etc. and punish accordingly.

these are more dependent on the read you get from your opp. if they are in the mindset of mashing dps, then you want to go for option B (or just walk up, and the start to walk backwards, either way works.) I’m a player who’s philosophy is to “be on the inside of your ass” as well so these are just some things i’ve learned.

Sorry FlyingV, I should have explained further. When I cross up ken for example, and the cross up is blocked, I hit cr.lp, cr.lp into throw, max out or c.mp. As I’m hitting the cr.lp, the oppoent is mashing the srk motion which knocks me out of the block string.

From replays, the mashing begins as I start the cr.lp’s

well in that case, couldn’t you just intentionally end your block string early to bait the srk, then block accordingly. you’re +3 on block with c.jp and the fastest dps have 3 frames of startup so you can block and then punish accordingly i would think. Maybe i’m crazy or maybe theres some other frames of like block startup that i don’t know about, but i would assume i’m correct.

EDIT: ok, i’ve misunderstood what you’re saying again, look at below post for more relevant information.

If people are managing to sneak in a SRK between the jumpin attack and the first attack on the ground (between j.mk and c.lp) then that means they’ve gotton out of the blockstun the j.mk put them in before the c.lp hit them to continue the blockstun. All you gotta do is hit them later with the j.mk so they stay in blockstun. If they then start mashing through the blockstring then you’ve got to make the block string tighter and using true blocktrings. Once you’ve got a tight unmashable blockstring you can just play with them and bait them to srk and go flying in the air or waste 2 meters when ever you want. Just end your blockstring when you think they’re mashing and block, then watch them go whizzing into the sky and when they come down punish them with something like EX MGU - U2. That should deter them from mashing.

Sometimes it’s too late to know if someone’s mashing or not on XBL though, if you just find out they’re mashing after they’ve hit you with a fully powered ultra through a c.lp and you loose then that’s too late. That’s why ranked mode sucks because you’ve got to play so conservatively because you don’t know if someone’s a masher or not. Neither of you get better in that sort of match so that’s why I like to play ranked with people several times to feel them out.

Verify mentioned that you could do a very late jumping mk and follow up with c.lk to catch reversals. I hope I understood him right but he did it in one of the vids he posted in the video thread recently, so you might wanna check it out. I don’t know how it exactly works yet, but I assume that Verify knows his stuff.

Give DJ back Crumple stun!!!
