Yeah, I don’t think throwing slasher is good at the long long/mid range. Ryu owns that mid range just outside Cr.mk range. He has plenty of ways to get in, and he can lk tatsu over slasher. And, as was mentioned earlier, he can just walk you down. This match is bawls if the Ryu has even the slightest idea what he’s doing. Once he closes the distance you’re screwed, you don’t have safe block strings, you can’t try to frame trap as you can bet your ass the Ryu player will random you with SRK -> ultra, or SRK fadc back dash. The match just feels like trash. It’s not the worst, but it’s by no means in deejays favor. It really ends up coming down to opportunies for damage, and ability to convert that to damage or great positioning. It just feels like I have to work way, way, waaaay harder than the ryu player.
I was just getting hammered by a Seth player last night. I really need more experience with that match up. It seemed like I couldn’t really get an offense going and hanging outside seemed like a bad idea. I had some success when I was able to get inside and score some knockdowns and land a few mixups, but he was able to teleport out or catch me with stuff. It feels like a tough match, I’m hoping it’s just a lack of exposure/match experience.
Ya he is a pain in the ass once he scores a knockdown. When I fight seth I try to zone him out and hard punish his mistakes. Its not the best idea rushing him down because if you goof it could be your ass. One cool trick i learned was you could mk sobat thru taden since its throw invincible but it’s not used as much anymore due to that nerf he got.
I honestly think he’s one of the harder match ups. Especially if he uses U1. Cuz then if you’re long range and he has U1 stocked, no air slashes, no jumping. Also, his mix ups are deadly against DeeJay. Or at least they feel like it. You never wanna be close range cuz there’s always the SPD threat, as well as his DP which stuffs like a lot of out stuff. Long range is also not ideal cuz Sonic Booms, teleport, U1, etc. Medium range, or just outside of it I found to be the ‘best’ but that’s still not saying much.
Ug, and that medium distance is really not a great distance for deejay. His options are rather limited in that distance, I try to use that transitional distance pretty infrequently because do to those limitations. I feel like if I can get in and bait some uppercuts/ 360s, I can punish and start shenanigans, but I really have to be careful about not mistiming pokes and whatnot inside, as Seth can really punish me. In this particular instance, this Seth was noticeably shaken up when I got in, and I could tell the hard knockdowns into reversal bait or front throw/ hard knockdown silliness had him avoiding the short distance like the plague. Need to figure this BS out.
On another note, I had a lot of Ryu matches this weekend. That match is trash. 6-4 Ryu’s favor , I’m solid on that. Once the Ryu player is hip this the Jamaican setups, he can just walk my ass down and mash Cr. Forward whenever he feels threatened. Online is even worse with bullsh*t point blank red fireballs that I can’t block for some reason. Ryu was walking my ass down with impunity. LK sobat was working good till he just started Cr. MK that nonsense, and it was all down hill from there. matchup is bawls.
every time a ryu cr.mk hits deejay out of lk.sobat, somewhere an innocent kitten dies. thanks capcom.
I’m a B ranked Deejay and I don’t really think I’m going to get much further. I have such a hard time with a lot of my matches at this point. So much more fun offline… Anyone needs matches, I’m NapkinSchematic on XBL…
You know what match up sucks? Poison!!!
Sounds like you need more practice with the Ryu matchup. It’s not nearly as lopsided as fighting say Poison or Blanka or pretty much a good chunk of the cast. I can’t disagree that it’s probably 6-4, but to have Ryus walking you down the screen and frustrating you that much shouldn’t happen.
A question for the OG’s: who are DeeJay’s best matchups? Maybe a top 5?
To me, DeeJay’s worst matches are Guile, Sim, Poison, Blanka, and probably Yun. I don’t really know though, I feel like a lot of characters compete for a spot in that list. Opinions from the OG’s?
I’m not really OG…I just like talking, haha. I’ll throw in my stuff too.
Best matches don’t exist too much to me. I think Honda, T Hawk, Hugo, and huh, not too sure who else really, but those are relatively close to even matches, winnable definitely.
Worst matches, 7 / 3 matches that is, Poison, Dhalsim, Seth, Blanka, Ken, Dudley, Yun, and I want to throw in Guy as well, but I dunno. That’s a bad match, but not terrrrrrible. I actually think Ken is the worst shoto match out of all of them.
T. Hawk and Dan would be up there. Everyone else is either even or 4-6 and below for DeeJay.
I agree with Poison being a very difficult match, Guile, Rose and Seth are up there for me, as well as Dhalsim, Gouken and Yun. I think the Ken match up can get real nasty and I have a natural weakness against Chun.

I don’t think it’s terribly lopsided, but Ryu can totally walk Deejay down for free. Granted, I dint have a terribly massive amount of match experience with deejay, as I’m in the sub 1000 matches live and online, but I can say with confidence than in my experiences Ryu can walk Deejay down rather easily.
Best: T.Hawk, E.Honda, Rufus, Makoto, Vega. The sad part is that I listed arguably even matchups as his best.
Worst: Yun, Blanka, Sim, Guile, Guy
Yea Guile is infuriating. No character should be able to throw a fireball after you’ve already jumped at them and still have time to anti air you.
I hate “turtling” or playing entirely zone, but in that match up, I play the lamest Deejay. That matchup requires patience.

Why do you consider this a good match for DeeJay? I’ve struggled with it as of late.
Yeah, I hang back and try to get a life lead and immediately go into jerk mode. I let them make the openings and try to make the best out of whatever opportunities I can create or that they create. What I really hate abut this match is that Guile will have time to block an ultra 1 attempt was f you try to ultra when he booms, you have to be close and fast to get it to land, otherwise he can block it. It seems like the best bet is to try to win the distance game by constantly tossing slashers, mixing up speed and distances by short hopping and sliding. Try to push them to the corner as much as you can by pressing behind slashers.
This match is trash.
Guile matchup is even more infuriating because the guy can suck balls, be a super scrub and win by chucking booms, AAing ans st.FP/backfist you in the face. And there’s nothing you can do about it. I have an easier time as Honda than Deejay against Guile
