Decision 2008: The Presidential Election Thread

Re: When will soldiers be able to come home on the Daily Show.

from my memory:

“That’s right John. The only way they can leave, is if they stay”

I am not a sexist by any means… but I would pick the man. A woman president is too apt to cry in the face of danger. Its not scientific fact but it is widely accepted knowledge that women are much more emotional than men. I know for a fact that there are some very strong-willed women out there and I’m sure that these women could do the job, and possibly better than a man, but mainstream America would look over a candidate like that to eat up a psycho bitch like Hilary. So… the man.

Hilary on the other hand…

“Everyone…? sniff Chicago just got nuked by terrorists… sob What do I do?? I DONT KNOW??? wails and cries

You make it sound like I’am endorsing the war. Lets be serious about this. We play the cop so Halliburton KBR, Blackwater among other mutli million dollar companies can get rich screwing up things over there. America goes to war for profit or to ensure territory. In the case of Iraq both. The fact that out of the “Axis of Evil” we attack the country that didn’t have nuclear weapons speaks for itself.

I could find anyone on this sites house using Google Earth or Google maps and print out high quality pictures of the surrounding area. You (generally speaking) can’t convince me that the collective intelligent agencies of the world couldn’t do surveillance and tell if Iraq had weapons.

However playing the revisionist role doesn’t do much for the debate about Iraq. What to do now is more important. And regardless of that fact that we shouldn’t be other there in the first place for whatever reason doesn’t mean we should pull out recklessly. I don’t agree with the Neo Cons who use this as an excuse to stay and propagate nightmare scenarios about what would happen however.

I want to be clear that I am not opposed to figuring out a proactive course of action to help prepare Iraq for our absence (benchmarks, if you will), but I am absolutely opposed to just dropping everything and pulling out like so many are advocating that we do.

Too many people unthinkingly supported the war at the beginning, and now that they’ve finally come to the slow realization that we’re in it for the long haul, they want to hit the reset button. It doesn’t work that way. With the invasion, America took on the responsibility of tearing down and reconstructing Iraq’s power structure.

So yes, I’m all for leaving Iraq–as soon as that responsibility has been fulfilled to an acceptable degree.

I got your points the first time you posted.

It isn’t about should we eventually leave Iraq, the answer is obvious. It’s about that for the candidates soon means never and now means several years.

Candidates are abusing the word eventually too. It’s like they don’t know if staying will get them more votes or leaving, so they say eventually. That way people who want to stay get what they want since for the present time being you’re staying and those that want the soldiers to come home are semi-satisfied knowing that the president wants to bring the troops home.

Will you protect me from the monsters under my bed if I do?

Haven’t finished the thread yet, but I really liked Biden and Dodd for the Dems and ironically they were the first to drop. I can’t believe Richardson’s lame ass with his broken record rhetoric is still in and those guys aren’t. And Kucinich, with his ridiculous UFO shit. Omg.

As far as the remaining viable Dems, where’s the love for Edwards? I think he’s articulate, and has the common sense to make stuff happen; plus his performance at the NH debates was excellent. That shit was MAD tight when he went off about how he’d rape SIGs and Washington lobbyists. As another intelligent poster already pointed out, Obama doesn’t seem to have a very solid plan, and Hillary will more or less maintain Washingtonian status quo… at least so far as SIGs are concerned. Not sure about how deep she’s in with the SIGs, but from her track record she seems to be the most capable in reforming health care and possibly universalizing it as well.

I will personally take a trip down from Soul Society just for you :lovin:

Lmfao at the McCain ads to the left. But yeah, I hope Ron Paul wins but he probably won’t. My alternative is McCain.

McCain is actually climbing up the polls.

Ron is like going all in on the river, either you win big or lose big.
Hillary seems to be more stable. Plus she has shown that during Bill’s incident.
Decisions decisions.

On a side note, I saw you on mythos.

I’m GOD/Goddess/Elder/Vigor/etc.

Glad to see you posting here since you said you didn’t post much.

I vote Barack.

The basic gist of it is that he re-authorized the Patriot Act because “its not as bad as the one before”- but any of you can go read it and see how ridiculous it is.

Designating the Iranian Revolutionary Guard which makes up a significant part of not only Iran’s military but other national facilities gives the U.S. government in its own eyes, every single right to engage in a military strike on them. These acts all lead closer to war, is ridiculous and the US has no business in Iran’s affairs.

I’m tired of people thinking that the US has any godamn right to continue to be in Iraq. It doesn’t matter how safe Iraq is/is not, we have no right to be there, there is no Iraqi that wants us to stay there(no one cares about that part). Benchmarks are totally irrelevent - since no one agrees to them and longterm presense in the way of american bases in Iraq seem to be what the US gov’t is going to do even after a large troop withdrawal takes place.

Saying that the US leaving now would leave Iraq worse than it is now is not our problem if it happens, and its naive to think that US presence in Iraq is going to be tolerated. Enough of the US involvement in their affairs, they never wanted it, and don’t want it now, let them decide what their own government will be. Its not for us to say what type of government we like or don’t like when we’re the most dangerous country on the planet.

Paul on the reps, Obama on the dems. I’d vote Kucinich but he has no chance.

Sure he’s got no chance, but at least he’s got a hot ass wife.

We all know there are many questionable provisions in the P.A. but your dissing all of it because of its negative press. Which leads me to believe that your not very serious in the first place.

If you don’t listen to the things leaders in the Iran Revolutionary Guard have said, done and see them as a terrorist organization then I have nothing to say to you other than your not serious about that either. I guess supporting KNOWN terrorist and other terrorist organizations in Iraq and Afghanistan doesn’t make them terrorist, just not so nice people. Come on man…

And I guess you haven’t really read my post. I’ve never supported or justified the war. I however agree with the Iraq Study Group that pulling forces prematurely and recklessly would be a disaster. As decided how they’re own government and army will be set up lol. We’ve been pushing for Al - Maliki to do something forever. The DEMOCRACTICLY elected leader has done nothing short of sit around and procrastinate this entire situation. Do you think if we left immediately he and his corrupt administration would just decide to try and fix Iraq’s deteriorating economy, army or lack their of etc?

This issue in Iraq is much more complicated than the “lets get out of Iraq right now” crowd acknowledges. Its not as simple as stay bad leave good.

Realistically, neither does Paul. He’s gained a commendable amount of attention relative to most non-mainstream candidates, but there’s still a pretty sharp drop-off in the polls from the front runners on down. The average American voter has an overwhelming tendency to vote for the candidates who pander the most and offend the least. Despite whatever flaws he might have, the very qualities that make Paul a superior candidate are the ones that will hold him back.

some of you people who just argue for the sake of seeing yourself post really need to dial it down…it isn’t flattering to you and it wildly derails any thoughtful discussion

I hate to say that
…but it is so true.

No offense to my fellow black people.

I think Obama is doing his thang right now
but he just came out of nowhere running for president, I can’t say he won’t be a good president but atleast I know more about Hilary Clinton and what she is capable of, I can honestly say she can run a country.

But about Obama winning automatically due to black people??
I disagree because if that was the case, George W. Bush would not be in office at the moment

Wrong my friend. He who posts last wins the argument no matter who’s right or wrong

See? I posted after you. I win
