So I’m debating between these 2 sticks for the PS4. Each has their own pro’s and con’s.
TE2 is easily opened and won’t void warranty. Its heavier and won’t slide around as much. Plus its got standard Sanwa stick and buttons which I grew accustomed to.
The Hori V4 Kai is available next week and won’t have to wait for it (unlike the TE2 which ships end of April). Plus its 50 bucks cheaper.
I had 2 main questions regarding the Madcatz TE2 stick for PS4.
Is the warranty 1 year or 90 days? I’m in the USA.
If there is a defect and I have to send it in, do I pay for the shipping or does Madcatz cover it?
Thanks folks. Still debating between these 2. I just want a reliable stick that I can use for a long time.
TE2 is 2 year warranty in North America and Europe, says right on the paper I got with it.
You’ll probably have to pay for the shipping, you can always email them and ask, or PM MarkMan here in SRK forums.
My TE2 arrived with the latch broken. After I opened a ticket w/ Madcatz they sent me a new one with a shipping label in the box to send the other one back. It was about as easy as a return could be.
Seeing how all these quickly sold out and new versions every few month sticks get released wonder if they keep spares for warranties if something breaks 8 months later or so. I guess it’s not a problem with the normal versions not the rarer ones like Xrd/Persona/USFIV TE2’s, but I guess they will fix your arcade stick instead of replacing the whole thing.
I have the TE2 for the xbox one and the Hori HRAP for the xbox one as well (This stick has the same body as the PS4 Kai). I do not like how heavy the TE2 is and how the original plexi kept cutting my fingers. Also I did not like the detachable cable and prefer a dedicated cable compartment. The Hori stick was lighter but I did not like the Kuro buttons. I swapped all of the parts ( I prefer semitsu sticks and sanwa rg’s) on both sticks and usually play with the HORI. So I am getting the Hori Kai for ps4 because it has the added bonus of shifting the stick an inch away from the buttons, another thing I prefer.
But from me and my views. I prefer the hori I don’t like how the te2 feels and by that I mean the top panel feels very frail and seems like I’m pressing on cardboard top or something of the like. That’s just my view however. The hori I like the stability of it.
Both are good sticks. With pros and cons to each of them
The new TE 2 is easy access, don’t confuse that with easier to mod.
It is almost impossible to dual-mod the Xbox One version of the Mad Catz TE 2 without the TE2 Crossbone PCB (or similar circuitry) as the XB1 PCB is not common ground.
Having to undo screws is a minor inconvenience at best.
In the US, warranty rights changes from state to state (so it depends on your state), some states mandates more coverage than others, others offer no more protection that what the manufacturer provides, other states can will even void the warranty even if they manufacturer offers it (this last one is rare).
Depends on the warranty, Mad Catz current policies and the protections or restrictions offer by your state.
Plug the wired headset into the USB or optical in the PS4, if you don’t have either of those then an audio 3.5mm to optical should work I suppose, not sure though never tried it.
Both are bad replacements for the TE 1 and Fighting Edge.
I dont like Kuro buttons without silencer pads in them. And Ive had the Hayabusha stick for a day now and Ive put in 4 different springs in it to make it a little less loose. I dont like how loose this stick is as much as I dont like loose pussy.
I have friends who have TE 2’s and they dont like them at all. They say the button that opens it makes things worse, maybe the button is being pressed by accident. And one of the te2’s bent weird, it actually bended when he had an accident.
I hope Qanba makes a great looking new stick with a new case body type. The Q4’s are boring to me design wise.
One important thing that hasn’t been mentioned yet: aesthetics. Personally, I have hated all of the different designs that Mad Catz has come up with for the TE2s, especially the USF4 and P4AU sticks. I saw some post pics of their TE2 with the art removed and it looks so much better. It’s nice and clean and simple. That’s one thing that Hori always gets right. The artwork on the HRAP4 Kai is simple and effective.
That being said, Mad Catz certainly did artwork right with some of the TE releases. The Femme stick is an all time favorite, along with the MvC2 and TE-S sticks. I’ve just been really confused by their choices for the TE2.
Check out the release date on Amazon. I think it is actualy today, 4/2
