Dealing with the twins in AE

I’m sure its just me not knowing the matchup, but I’ve now heard gootecks, daigo, and justin wong say Balrog beats yun. I just want to know why this is? I have a shit ton of trouble against him and can’t understand what they are talking about.

Is it his st.jab for AA? some other AA option he has that im not using because c.hp isn’t working for me? is it cause c.lp can punish somethin other characters cant. Just want to know why EVERY pro says it is in Balrog’s favor when he can dive kick the shit out of my c.hk. Thanks for the help, really need to know what I’m doing wrong.

I think i’m still in the same boat with you, but out of the twins I know that Yun has a harder time dealing with a really defensive rog. Yun doesn’t have any decent safe chip to deter rog from blocking, teching throws, and generally punishing attempts at tick throws with his command grab. Dive kick-wise, Yun’s is ass, cr.mp or st.lp are your best AAs, cr.hp just has a bad hitbox to AA the dive kicks since you have to hit behind the hitbox, cr.mp works great for Yun, for Yang you pretty much can ONLY AA with st.lp.

In general, although Yun’s rushdown is really good, it doesn’t cause any chip damage, so you can mash down-back and punish him when he forgets that the last hit of his st.mp xx st.hp xx b+hp target combo isn’t a blockstring and you headbutt/ultra through it. Yang doesn’t have that problem…don’t sleep on him.

And what if you play against a yun that isnt a scrub cuz you can definitely hit confirm and stop the tc before b+hp and still be safe. He has too many options! Thanks for the help tho and ill try to use c.mp more and see how that works out

i’ve been facing some fairly decent yuns recently, and i’ve noticed the greatest strength balrog has against yun is good spacing. if you keep the range against yun that is like JUST outside of dive kick range, yun really can’t do much to you. and yes i know that is a lot harder said than done, but that seems to be working pretty well for me. i’ve also been having decent luck with cr.mp as an anti dive kick method when spaced correctly. when facing yun i also have been using st.fk a lot, especially when in this range and they do a dive kick in, i’ll do that right as they are landing and a lot of the time i will get counter hits.

@btfu88, true. I’m just saying that yuns rushdown doesn’t cause chip damage which 9/10 means that if you can tech throws and block right, then he has nothing to threaten you with safely, his only safe chip damage is ex.lunge and he needs the meter for GJ, also he can’t afford to eat a headbutt into ultra attempting to tick throw afterwards…at least not too many times.

@purebeast, cr.mp is nice against yun’s dive kick, doesn’t work against yangs though :[ Also nj.hp theoretically does wonders when your right inside dive kick range. Yun has to space his dive kicks perfectly for them to be safe on block, so wiggle nj.hp really makes it hard to space a dive kick safely, i think.

If you watch a Balrog vs Rufus match, you should fight the twins exactly like that. His strongest tools are his crouching fierce, Jump back fierce, standing medium and roundhouse.

Fighting the twins with Balrog is like fighting Rufus. take this video for an example, it doesn’t feature the twins but it features Rufus, a character similar to them in certain aspects.
