Dealing with the controller setting bug for a tournament?

What do you think is the best way around this? Everyone likes to use their own stick (or pad lol) and some people use the L1 and L2 buttons, and some people use the R1 and R2 buttons. So… this game decideds “f… whatever buttons you just set in the options, I’m going to change them to what I want anyway.” So what do you think the best flow is for setting up buttons? Would it be to set it in the options and hope for the best, or to start a dummy match, set up the buttons, go back to the main screen, then go back to the character select screen (since this game is lacking a “return to character select screen” option for some reason)?

We ran a tourney here tonight and we were just running into tons of problems with this… so what do you guys think the best way to deal with the situation is in a tournament where you are trying to keep things moving along?

I set my buttons in a match ages ago and they’ve never changed. Oh, I did change them slightly for my stick…but either way they were always remembered…So I’d say the dummy match.

Dummy match is fine, I’ve seen that done in tournaments a number of times, namely on Guilty Gear since a lot of people I know play GG on a pad for some reason.

and I don’t have the problem with the controls, other then it doesn’t seem to SAVE them, IE; I quit out of the game and restart it, I have to reconfigure my controller, but after that the game has no problem until I turn the game off completely.

does this bug happen on xbox? ive played the xbox version to death and havent got this bug once. yet on ps3, within 10 minutes it happened to me, twice. that shit was annoying as hell!

This bug has been scaring me since the game launched, when thinking about it in a tourney setting. You may not even realize your buttons are fucked til like 1/2 way through a round.

only way i can think of is forcing people to use sticks/pads that can conform to the default setting. kinda like how most people had their sticks wired to match 3s default setting on 3s. That’s the only semi-resolution i can think of.

Thanks for the input guys

i haven’t played the xbox 360 version but from what I understand it does the same stuff

and my controls were set just fine for the first week but when you get several people involved it seems like the bug is going to happen randomly no matter how you plan for it

I think i’ll stick to the dummy match idea for now

thanks again every one

i do remember what i was doing when my controls reset on the ps3.

I use a pelican ps3 adapter. so its a hassle to get up and go to the console for the home button. so what i do, when i want to access the crossbar, is i have my sixaxis next to me to do all those functions. maybe the fact that my pad was turned on and caused the stick to change controller slots, and made the controls revert to default due to new controller slot assignment? it’s just a theory.

I have the PS3 version and this hasn’t happened to me once.

so obviously this was a huge time waster at NEC… they really need to fix this problem

maybe just make controller 1 player one and controller 2 player two?
