Alot of liberties were taken with the Deadpool film, Deadpools origins are heavily altered.
What was changed
Wade Wilson was blond prior to becoming Deadpool
Wade left Venessa without ever telling her about the cancer in the comics.
In the comics, Wade isn’t particularly motivated to hook back up with Vanessa
In the film Wade would not let Ajax destroy his sense of humor, the Wade Wilson of the comic never had one. Deadpool’s Humor didn’t appear till long after his failed standalone comic book run, long after Deadpool was introduced. It was not till after his solo book failed and Deadpool became a background/gag character when he started to become funny.
Wade did not have the X-factor Gene prior to the experimentation by Project Weapon Plus. Instead he had Wolverine’s DNA spliced into his.
Ajax in the movie is a combination of two characters from the comic: Dr. Killebrew, and his assistant, The Attendant (who his real name is Francis).
Wade was not a jerk prior to his transformation into Deadpool.
The Dead Pool gambling board was done in the reject prison for failed experiments of the Weapons Plus program not some shady hole in the wall bar.
Workshop didn’t collect slaves, just rejects from the Weapons Plus program. Wade ends up here because his bumpy skin has made him suicidal and uncooperative.

Deadpool being a Mutant, Wade is not considered a Mutant by Marvel. Wade is classified as a Mutate not a Mutant. The difference is Mutates are Enhanced Humans like Hulk or Captain American and not born with their powers like any of the X-men.

His 4th wall breaking
Colossus (he that much of a putz in the comics too, except when he serious/depressed).

You mention deadpool flopped as a serious serial. After it shed that it did quite well, as did its film adaptation.
Has any literature transcribed to screen ever held wholly faithful to its origin? You’ll always have to omit or change things because you can can do things with words and drawings that you simply can’t on film, mostly to maintain tempo movies need to have to retain entertainment and attention of the audience.

Having Wade being defiant at the Workshop and refusing to let go of his humor made for a much better story in the Films. Every Deadpool fan that isn’t a comic buff already has a set head canon for Wade.

Soon as they stop having Wade be serious, and made Wade a Joke he got popular.

Kellypool was definitely funner to read than constant gag Waypool.
