Dead Space 2

Doesn’t seem to like tri surround, and has problems with SLI…

yeah zealot was really tough for me. Looking back, I would have used it for my new game plus, but I didn’t know hard core wouldn’t allow you to use new game plus. I used the Plasma cutter, line gun, pulse rifle, and javelin thing. The line gun is awful, ammo is scarce and expensive. Most enemies still take two shots to kill and the delay on the alt fire is hella long. I didn’t really dig my PC either. Pulse rifle is great, and the javelin gun is pretty good, you just use it like a sniper rifle. That being said, I think for my next playthrough I’ll go pulse rifle, force gun, contact and ripper.

I beat this game on Hard Core last night and got the Platinum trophy, but man I had some frustrating deaths. Overall it was pretty worth it, and the feeling of tension I had knowing 1 fuck up would set me back 1-2 hours since my last save kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. It was worth it though, I got the ultimate weapon with infinite ammo that rapes everything in 2-3 shots, it looks like something out of Dead Rising 2.

First attempt at Hard Core I got to chapter 5 without dying, then at the end of the chapter when running away from that boss before you use kinesis to open the door, while running towards I kicked up some object/limb and Isaac decided to kinesis that thing instead of the giant-ass door. Once I realized what was happening, it was too late and I got killed. Once I got back there I made it my first save, no fucking way that was happening again.

From Chapter 5 I got to chapter 8 without a death, that is until Tieddeman turn on those generators. I knicked one and died. Extremely frustrating, I made my next save at the end of Chapter 7 before the jetpack dive part/generator.

I got to the end of chapter 12 without dying, and, out of tension I made a save right before the bulldozer part. I got to the last boss, but I played it horribly and hit myself with the secondary fire of the Pulse Rifle two times in a row trying to keep the mobs of enemies off me, then, after getting out of hitstun those bastards piled up on me and killed me. Loaded up my chapter 12 save, died at the eyeball-minigame part, loaded up the save again, made it to the last boss with two healthpacks, then barely beat the bitch. I put the controller down, then I realized it wasn’t over yet then I jetpacked my ass to Ellie while coming close to hitting terrain on the way. I felt so damn accomplished afterwards, holy fuck. Time to replay Dead Space: Extraction!

All in all, you die to stupid shit more than actual necromorph combat. It’s normal difficulty.

Ending to DS2 was alot better than the first game’s. Although what the hell was wrong with Isaac? He looked all freaked out looking at Ellie at the end. Anyone give me any info on this?

I’m pretty sure its a nod to the ending of the first game.

I’m pretty sure its a nod to the ending of the first game.

I need to play the first one. I’ve had it for like a year, just never got around to it. You guys liking DS2 though?

It has been said to death up in here, but I shall chime in too, and reiterate:

It is GOTY potential goodness. And Isaac is the most realistic fully fleshed-out protagonist I’ve ever seen portrayed in a video game, as well. The only games that compare are old RPGs where YOU create/imagine the tone of the [text] conversations.

As I see it.

What do you guys mean it’s a nod to the ending on the first game?

SPOILER DONT READS IF YOU HAVENT PLAYED DS1

Isaac killed Nicole in necromorph form on his escape pod, so what does the ending on DS2 have to do with that?

Edit: Nevermind I got it, he’s looking behind his back/next to him to see if there’s any necromorph.

Really?
I thought it was implied that he hallucinated her at the end, tying into this game.
As I see it.
It’s not definite, but the way I see it, if you youtube the ending for DS1, the camera is pretty creepy crawly like a necromorph creeping up to him. I think she was really there and in necromorph form.

In DS2’s ending, I think he was double checking to just make sure that Ellie was real, and not necromorphed liked Nicole was in DS1 [/details]

My thoughts on Hardcore mode:

Buying the SuperNova pack is a huge help to you, especially early game. You get a Engineering suit with 15% armor and bonus to healing packs, a wide variety of weapons for free, and best of all, a few exploits.

Since you don’t usually upgrade your weapons until you’re done with your RIG health bonuses, you can conserve ammo (and save some for later in the Store) by firing your weapons until you’re out of your clip (WITHOUT reloading), selling it, then buying it back with a full clip.

The downloadable Contact Beams are great, not because you’re going to be using them, but for the ammo drops. Contact ammo sells for tons, and since the CB is already max damage for the Primary Fire, you can save the CB for bosses, resell/rebuy it afterwards, and sell off your excess ammo.

And yeah, you die to the action sequences more than against Necromorphs.

Okay I know I’m really late on answering this, but I just saw this post today and no one replied (step it up, SRK), so I’ll do my best at answering these.

The Hunter

[details=Spoiler]1) He was introduced earlier. Much earlier. So early he isn’t even in this game, he’s the wimpier version of the Hunter you fight in Dead Space 1. You first encounter him at around chapter 4 I think, and he pops up at certain times throughout the game. His inclusion in DS2 was really shocking because there was no mention of him, not a single hint. It might not have done anything to anyone who hadn’t played the first game, but I can guarantee you that most people who played DS1 shat their pants when he returned, or at least cursed the heavens for a good minute…or for the entire scene.

2)Funny that you bring up the fan, that’s how he dies. However, killing him is completely optional, which is why the fan is overlooked most of the time. [/details]

ARGH! Died in Chapter 6! I was trying to get to Chapter 10 without dying.

I ended up being bumrushed twice and using up all my stuff in a panic.

That’s when I started to save, once I realized that making it that far without saving started becoming a waste of time, because dying sets you so far back. Chapter 5-8 almost all have things in them that can kill you in one hit. Saving at chapter 6-beginning of chapter 7 are the best spots to use your first save, imo. Chapter 6-8 are the hardest chapters, after that, you can breeze through into chapter 9-13 to use your next save. Don’t worry about your first save, it’ll save you a lot of time/stress to use it when you feel you need to. Try to use your 2nd(or 3rd) save as close to the eye-minigame in chapter 13 as possible.

You should upgrade only the Plasma Cutter and either the Pulse Rifle or Force Gun, depending on your preference. The main reason you want only 2-3 weapons is because the game only drops ammo for the weapons you actually own 95% of the time. I went through Hardcore mode only upgrading my stasis, 1 health node in the rig, and the rest to fully upgrade my Plasma Cutter and Pulse Rifle. I bought armor upgrades as soon as they were available, the biggest perks of them being the increased inventory space. Health isn’t an issue, because you take such little damage from hits in comparison to Zealot difficulty. Keeping a shitload of med packs on you as well as a a bunch of ammo is crucial, plus you should be swimming in money so never worry about using a bunch to get health packs/ammo. You never know when you’re going to get yourself into a shitty situation where you need to use a lot of items, so being prepared is key.

I went through Hardcore mode with no perks at the beginning, I had no extra armor or weapons. I didn’t have DS: Ignition to give me an extra suit of armor, I didn’t have the CE for the Zealot Force Gun, nor was I going to dump real $ on buying upgrades that I could use off the bat. Looking back, Hardcore mode is hilariously easy compared to Zealot difficulty. It’s the stupid shit that can kill you-being under prepared for situations(lacking med packs and ammo) hitting something during a dive sequence, having low health and tripping a bomb(never happened to me in Hardcore difficulty, but it sure as fuck happened often in Zealot.) Hitting something in a Zero-Gravity sequence, fucking up the eye-minigame, etc. etc.

I died to the Zero G plasma vents. Funny thing is I was sure it was clear to go through. BS like that in HardCore mode is ridiculous, and I lost 3 hours. I was doing TOO good too, and was so close to my 2nd save.

So what difficulty on HC mode based on? Zealot, normal?

I’m guessing Survivalist, cause enemies aren’t THAT tough, but they do a fair bit of damage.

it’s normal difficulty, im pretty sure sonicabid has mentioned a few times as well.

im outi
