The game is fun. I haven’t played a DOA game before, so the controls take some getting used to.
Has anyone else experienced lag issues in arcade mode? I already installed the game, but there are times when the whole game stops completely for a split second.
I won’t be able to pick up this game for a while, but I wanna autopilot what I remember from DOA4 at a tournament next week. Besides engine changes making sidestepping useful and whatnot, are there any changes worth mentioning to Ryu? I heard about the Izuna Drop counters being changed to advanced holds, but I don’t know about anything else.
glad to get this game tonight after waiting hours
glad they made some adjustments to the system so it takes a higher level of competence to play too!kasumi is looking like my main her mobility is the best in the game. though her power lacks a little i can handle it shes got so many ways to improvise and teleport mixups
i love having this feeling like i play too many fighters and i still got resonance of fate to mess around with
Saw this at DataBlitz (at the Podium) while picking up my copy.
Apologies for the blurry cellphone pic.
EDIT: Also, it seems that Asian region (R3) copies all come with the pre-order bonuses (at least at select retailers). Off course, this is nothing new as this has happened before for other games.
Played a bunch of the story while One piece was downloading(took 5 hours… it was 11 gigs) Enjoying it, even if cheesy. I am still trying to figure out the control scheme I want to do… I find myself pressing the wrong buttons to hold a lot of the time. I also found some of those challenges quite tough, mainly the ones where you need to block and throw or do holds, since the CPU didn’t always do the move you needed them to do.
Then I played One Piece for a while. I never played a Dynasty warrior game before(except 99 nights ages ago), so not doing my best, but I really enjoy it. It’s only in Japanese with english dub, but since i watched so much of the Anime like that(when the 4kids dub was all we had), so I feel right at home. I am playing the game more like the Wii one, which I need to get myself out of. This game also has a lot of features, like extra missions, 2 player, and even online! I wonder if i will find anyone
My guess is that, in terms of functionality and whatnot, the Xbox version would be the way to go. However we all know how the fighting game community is usually bigger on PS3 (case in point the DOA5 Launch Party in San Francisco that just ended, was on a PS3 system), so…in the end the decision is really up to you. With a game like this though it should run smoothly on either system.
Online is pretty good. Only issues I have are when other people’s connections suck, so.
Ryu is almost totally different. He’s pretty much a grappler now.
Wow I just got to try this game out and I am at much disappointment with the LAGGY ass netcode.
Then again, I was playing people from Chicago and other random states. The matchmaking system is weird. first of all, I live in California, so I set the search filter to “Same” and “Nearby,” but it was still laggy as hell. The matchmaking system, although I set it to play in only SAME or NEARBY region, it still gave me matches from people in Chicago and far away.
It’s weird.
Is it me or does the netcode suck? Hopefully Team Ninja can issue this. I thought the netcode for SSF4 was good, but… omg, the netcode for DoA5 is beyond playable.
pleaseeeeeeeeeee someone tell me. did you get a chance to play online with anybody near your area? how was the connection? did it lag? was it playable? how would you rate the netcode?
edit: Also, why is there no sub-forum for DoA5? does SRK really believe this game doesnt deserve its own mini-forum?
ValkyrieSC: The overwhelming majority of my time with it has been spent on a Xbox 360 copy, and I’ve had no notable issues. I’m not coming out and saying which version is better, I’m totally unqualified to say something like that, but I can at least say the X360 version works fine. I’ve been playing it for about a week and nothing really stood out as a significant problem on the technical side.
d3v: That’s a neat photo for what it is. Thank you for sharing with us!
extravagant: My results were in pre-patch conditions, and really mixed. I had some that were, as you say, ‘ass.’ I’ve also had others where when I knew what my opponent was up to, I reliably landed a Hi-Counter Hold (the one where you have to have basically spot-on perfect timing but are rewarded with BIG DAMAGE </CvS2>) and did some pretty fun throw setups. It has just been super varied for me, and I’m hoping to get a more consistent sample over the next few days now that the patch is out and the player pool is wider.
I hope it works out. I’ve been having a lot of fun using Tina, and if I can make DOA5 one of my ‘main games’ that would be sweet.
It probably is my connection. I popped in SF4 shortly afterward and it was lag-fest too. I guess one of my brothers in the house was downloading stuff. (No, not the pr0nz.)
I’ll test it out tomorrow. For a second though I almost thought that, you know, the online mode was really trash. I’ll see what’s up tomorrow.
From what I’m reading, it’s peer-to-peer unlike SCV, so therefore it’s very connection dependent. Treat it like SFIV, green bars is fine, otherwise, look for someone else to play.
I can give them some of the best models, but VF has the best animations hands down. I actually think DOA animations aren’t all that good, it’s just really fast so it looks fluid. Not bad by any means, but it doesn’t touch VF in the animation department.
