Definitely. If Team Ninja is up to the task, I’d very much welcome a different way of doing a fighting game. But in DOA’s case, I think most of us just want to see if this game is not just a pretty face, and actually has a nice ass to shake, so to speak. :lol:

I still enjoy DOA3’s “ass shake” to this day, even if it’s 10 years old this February.

So much for titty fighter. I guess Hayashi is trying to lose that stigma after all. On the upshot… wow, they look really good. Apparently the fighters will not only sweat, but actually get dirty and such as they fight.

On the technical side of things…

The good: Sidestepping other characters attacks is apparently BACK IN for the first time since 3.1, thank god. We really needed that.

The bad(?): I’m hearing mixed reports of some kind of 3 point hold system, with an “expert hold” of sorts that will apparently do more damage. this is probably the only way for hayabusa to counter into an izuna now, for example. I have no word on what the frames look like, so it’s hard to completely criticize this yet, but I’m definitely weary of anything 3 point.

The ugly: There is apparently also some kind of god awful MK vs DC esque mini-game related to certain danger zones (cliff hangers, I believe). We are putting pressure on team ninja to take that shit out of the game ASAP before they walk so far into the dev cycle abyss it’s too late.

On that note, I had a fucking feeling that they would resort to some minigame stage bullshit. I hope to god they don’t go for that, please god.

I am very glad to hear about sidestepping returning, sounds excellent. Sucks about 3 point, that’s total ass and I hope they don’t resort to it.

Power moves sounds suspiciously like Ultras. Guess we’ll see.

Well they definitely at least kept their world on unconventional beauty.
But it definitely needs to add more raw mobility to dodge attacks, unless they’re going to finally rip off VF in a good way and add more guaranteed scenarios than guesswork.

On a less serious matter, deboobed is right, but they look a bit odd to me outside that. Like Hitomi without the C cup is no hips and ass, and all thigh, and Ayane has the bust of 30 year old athlete…with a boob job.
I mean, sure, go with different body types, but follow up on it. Give Hitomi’s Lili’s model like frame, make Ayane flat, something besides low-budget anime dolls.

I like to think that I don’t particularly care for over-sexualization in fighting games, but honestly I got hard the moment I read the words “power blow.” I want to get one of those! What would it even feel like???

– 88/22 are considered sidestep evasions, so you can go from doing a normal 8/2 freestep with less evasive properties to doing an 88/22 “dash” which evades most attacks.

– Initial reports from team ninjas twitter said something about hayabusa being able to “turn things around on hayate” ala the new dangerzone minigame thing. it has been clarified to me in the version of the game played today that the defender’s options are similar to rock-paper-scissors style, BUT are only able to reduce or avoid taking additional damage once they are trapped, so damage CANNOT BE REFLECTED BACK AT THE ATTACKER. If they guess wrong, they will eat one of those painful mid-air attacks seen by hayate in the extended trailer. This is huge as it completely spits in the face of DOA 4’s entire defensive architecture.

Downgrade boobs make me a sad panda. I assume there will be clothing damage since Hitomi loses her jacket in one of those screens.

Reading from FSD and TKP. There seems to be some sort of quick time event style system after you hit a power blow. Sounds kinda gimmicky, almost like MK vs. DC mini-games. The important bit however that folks want to get more info about is whether someone can actually reverse their position using this or if it only lessens daamge.

This is practically why I was upset to hear no high level players would be allowed to attend - and Morris is not a high level player so he didn’t break the rules but he’s not Press either heh.

Basically you have all of this mixed info coming out. I’m seeing on various sites that the power blow attacks allow a mini-game of sorts to play out. What that mini-game is and how it works is different depending on which article you’re reading. For example, one site suggests that the receiving player can just hit a button at the right time to hold onto the ledge and get back up, another says they can “Turn the tables on the attacker”. Just confusion all around.

Then, Erik, you have to decipher Morris’ cryptic english, where he states everyone has the 88/22 sidestep moves, meaning there may not be a “quick dash” but that they took Manny’s suggestion of giving evasive sidestep attacks instead of putting in a sidestep system.

The current hold system looks like they took my suggestion of having two different holds. Only thing was, I suggested the 4 point be in-stun, and the 3 point being out of stun. Additionally the 3 point would be parries. Resembling DOA++ really. They seemed to just make them small damaging attacks instead of parries.

Honestly, the issue with the hold system is really the amount of times the opponent is given a chance to hold, moreso than the number of points or the inputs to do the hold.

Just read the front page about DOA5 — Drooled on screen shots and read the article.

Just some personal observations:

  1. I’ve gotta say the characters looks amazing. They have a look of realism yet mainting that trademark ‘Anime-inspired’ look.

  2. Possible clothing damage activated? I see two verisons of Hitomi, one with her jacket and another with a tank top - its possible that it is only an Alt.

It’s interesting that Team Ninja REALLY didn’t want top tier players to come out and try the game. I mean, why not?

What matters in the mini-game is if it can lead to some form of reversal. If it does, then that needs to be taken out ASAP. There’s still hope though with the game supposedly only 15% done. I mean, MvC3 has something similar in early builds where landing a counter exchange led to a free air-combo, but that was taken out once people realized how stupid that was.
