GM is right, it’s not that great a story, pretty straightforward 80s story.
the art isn’t even that spectacular.
but hey, the death scene is pretty badass.
I own it, and I like it, but it’s nothing like an event book of today’s age, where you get six covers, a year lead-in, superstar artists, and no payoff.
Well if Alan Burnette is the writer for Superman/Batman #37 and up, now seems like a great time to start picking up this comic. Dude worked on the DCAU toons, which are some of the greatest shows. Period.
How’s Detective Comics and Batman doing? I should have bought the issues where Paul Dini was writing Detective Comics, but I never did. Hope they’ve got a good writer on board for both Bat books.
Superman is down to what, just two books now? Action Comics and Superman? That’s the way it should be IMO. Just because you’re one of DC’s poster boys doesn’t mean you should have like 16 comics coming out in one month. That’s just crazy. Anyway, how are both of Supes regular titles going?
Burnett isn’t writing Superman/Batman indefinitely, I don’t think. I believe his last issue, #42, is coming out next month. You might as well just wait for the TRADE, BABY.
Detective and Batman are pretty great. Dini’s still on Detective and Morrison on crop dusting fumes is still on Batman. Occasionally, there are random fill-in issues by random people because those two guys must be really busy. But overall, their issues are pure sexiness. The recent Batman arc with the JH Williams III art was pretty amazing. The first Dini Detective TPB is worth buying, too. Just get it.
Superman and Action Comics, I haven’t been paying much attention to anymore. I think P.Gabby has been getting them in TRADE, BABY. There’s a third Superman series called Superman Confidential. It’s basically the Superman version of JLA Classified - seems like they just take inventory stories they’ve had for a while and just print them in Classified. The first arc was actually by COOKE and Tim Sale, and it was really good, except that they fell way behind schedule and the final chapter of the arc hasn’t been released, even though a new issue was released that just started a new story.
P.S. - Insert obligatory ASS (All-Star Superman) reference to make goody go giddy.
I may pick up the Sinestro Corp limited series when it goes trade. The starting issue was good.
Anyone been reading the Robin comics? Any good?
I’m late but I finshed reading All-Star Superman 7-8. Good stuff but all the Bizzaro talk in issue 8 was getting on my nerves. Here’s hoping issue 9 comes out sometime before the next decade.
yah, the Bizarro-Talk always gets to me after so long.
good stuff, but it’s distracting when you have to ‘decode’ everything a character says.
I’ve never been a fan of Robin’s solo series, dunno why, he’s a great team leader, I just have a hard time seeing him on his own, or, for that matter, out of costume.
SMP was crap, no contest. there were so many instances of bad writing, imo… plus he cried, man. sure ripping off someone’s other arm was cool… but if you want a real bad as fuck dude go check out black adam’s arc in 52. prime is a sweet nuts bitch compared to teth.
wtf? dc has officially jumped the shark… possibly twice.
WTF, someone LIKED that issue of countdown? am i in bizzaro srk? that was the worst issue YET! i’d rather read about jimmy olsen and the news-boy legion, dude. oh, don’t get me started on the other garbage they have out (countdown to adventure, lord havok and the extremists, crime bible, jr mafia vs dbz). ok well i kind of made that last one up, but i wouldn’t be surprised if it happens.
robin for taichi
Spoiler
you know, i think that “robin” solo is actually damien, tala’s bastard child with batman via testtoob? has anyone read the origin of that guy? ninja man bats? kidnapping the british prime minister’s wife? ummmm, isn’t that just an edit of the bad dudes opener where this genereal says “the president has been kidnapped by ninjas…” only it’s, "the prime minister has been kidnapped by … " i’ll look for that pic.
Yeah I thought Countdown was boring myself, it was like a big old board (bored…) meeting between the Moniters. If it leads to better things in the story it’s all good, but the issue was a snoozer for me. IMHO anyway.
On the lighter side, Teen Titans Go was fun. They traveled to an alternate reality where they found evil versions of themselves. Speedy was Arsenal and Aqualad was Tempest! Robin was Red Robin but not the Red Robin of Kingdom Come, he just had more red on his outfit! In one scene they did the typical Crisis style effect where they can look into different realities and they could see the original Teen Titans of the DC Universe in one image, drawn realistically and everything! Well, just don’t tell Didio about it 'cuz he may try to make the Teen Titans cartoon one of the 52 Earths… :looney:
Since my local comic stores suck or are far away, does anyone know when the Sinestro Corps stuff will be TBP’ed? I read a few issues and it was amazing, so I look forward to like, reading it all.
