DC Comics Thread

Ahh okay. You aren’t saying it is wrong canonically/ plotwise w/e, you are just saying you don’t like it. That’s fair.

Speaking of flashpoint. whats the deal Flash having a conversation with Batman about getting help from Thomas Wayne, but not knowing him in JL#2?

Shouldn’t flash and booster gold (maybe?) remember all the shit that went down? past and present?

Well I imagine Flash wouldn’t gain the memories of Flashpoint until it happened. Don’t forget that Justice League is set in the past, Flashpoint just hasn’t happened yet.

The Batman Beyond comic is returning with digital chapters appearing before the print version.

Just saw the Maxie Zeus episode of Batman TAS. I must’ve missed a lot of episodes back in the day. I didn’t remember that one at all. The ending of that episode was hilarious. How often does Zeus appear in the comics?

Justice League #2 takes place 5 years before Flashpoint doesn’t it?

I guess you can say that. The current DC Universe is only 5 years old so right now Justice League is taking place during year one.

Thank god.

After watching Batgirl’s introduction in TAS it made me wonder some things not Batgirl specifically, but about Batman, his identity and his sidekicks. I just wonder how he managed to keep his identity secret for so long. I would think it would look suspicious whenever Bruce adopted a new child, here comes a new robin. When Jason died I would think that the Joker would have let out the secret then and even if he didn’t surely the disappearance of Robin and Jason’s death would be suspicious too? Then later down the line when he adopts another son here comes another robin.

By universe I just mean the age of superheroes. Things like what happened during medieval times tend to get overlooked in these conversations much I like Marvel’s WW2 stuff.

Not sure what the case is if Action (which I’m dropping) and Detective (which granted I’m not reading) take place a full year or more before current JL though. My guess would be months prior to shave off time.

Either way it’s a very young universe.

EDIT: Oh if you pick up JL this week turn 2 pages after the main story. They give away that current JL is happening in 2006. With Flashpoint occuring in 2011 it kind of answers the original question. Obviously these years will slide with the timescale down the line.

I’m not sure how it all works but stuff got tossed out and some of it didn’t.

For Bat books Bruce adopted Dick Grayson when he was 16 now and he’s officially 21 now (again, the five year model). Tim is noticeably younger and it seems like all his Young Justice / Teen Titans stuff got flushed away. Gordon’s hair is still brown. Barbara’s in college.

The character that’s throwing everything off right now is Damian who has to be around 10 or so. I’m betting there is going to be a story about a young Bruce hooking up with Talia before his Bat days. Maybe he’ll have trained with Ra’s, kind of like Batman Begins.

I imagine most of the Morrison and Johns stories still happened, just tweaked since that is DC’s bread and butter. People were younger and wore different outfits.

Morrison once said Batman’s been Batman for 15 years so that’s how old I think the other universe was. For Batman that made sense. Some would say it was more like 10 years.

However you slice it, they are certainly going younger. It’s really hard to give Marvel an estimate of anything less than 10 years.

I was wondering how old Bruce is/was supposed to be considering all those sidekicks he had and then he was replaced by Dick and his son was the new robin and then he came back as Batman again? I was guessing with all of that he was in his late 30s or early 40s.

Originally Bruce adopted Dick Grayson when he was 8.

But even before this reboot, Tomasi in Nightwing’s book started to treat Dick’s relationship with Bruce as his older brother and Alfred as his father. Because giving the sliding timescale their age wouldn’t be that different, just about 10 years or so. So Tomasi was already going with Bruce adopting Dick when he was more than 8 years old, and Bruce would’ve had to have been younger too, early twenties. Tomasi did this subtley though so it was an aspect you could ignore if you wanted to.

In the older universe Batman was probably somewhere between 30 and 35.

In the new universe, again not reading Detective Comics but since comics tend to be vague on ages my guess is he was about 21 when he started being Batman in and around ‘2006’ and now in ‘2011’ (Batman, Batman and Robin) he’s 26. That’s just a guestimate but chances are he’s in his mid to late 20s.

I’m willing to bet that Spoiler’s run as a Robin no longer happened too. In the old universe DC never mentioned it, Batman never kept her Robin suit in his cave and even DiDio said that they don’t acknowledge her as a Robin.

I’m all confused.

^Blame it on retcons, lol.
The easiest way to get it is to treat all the events in the DC universe taking place within 10 years. Based on that, Bruce would be within his 30s ever since he returned to Gotham and eventually starting as Batman.

Here’s my review of a DC book that has absolutely nothing to do with the New 52. Batman’s not in it, either.

Speaking of Spoiler is she still gonna be around? I haed her at first but I liked her solo run on Batgirl and I fucking loved that costume.

I picked up a good amount of DC this week, gonna get some reading in a bit.

Im about to drop Aquaman…FFS can the people show some respect to this guy? I hope there “fish -joke” doesnt drag on too long.

I didn’t think the fish jokes were that bad honestly , definitely not as out there as in issues 1 and 2

Also for the love of all that is good can we stop advertising comics in the back of other comics its irritating thinking there’s more to go and then NOPE
