Holy shit at the ending, Maxwell Lord is back! I LOVE HIM!..Cough ahem, yeah he’s cool, been my favorite little evil bundle of psychic wonder for a while now.
This comic is going in a fantastic direction, I am really loving it.
Tizoc sales figures take like three months to show up most of the time. November / December. Right now I wouldn’t read too much into it. #1s sell. In six months the picture will be clearer.
Enjoyed Action Comics 2 more than 1. Still playing it by ear but I’ll be back for issue 3.
JLI was a great read this week as well. I feel even though the book is taking on a lot at one time, it just flows so well that despite being so chaotic I can make sense of it all and appreciate it. Oh and obligatory Booster Gold rules stamp here.
Finally read New Guardians or whatever it is called: I don’t know how to judge the first issue. I was entertained…but it absolutely went nowhere, it did the bare bones a #1 comic should do. Small introduction of main character, mysterious stuff, some action/saving scenario, comedy bit, mystery confronts main character, big WTF you saw coming at the end. So I guess it worked in getting readers back for a second issue, just in an odd way…I will be back though, <3 Kyle, Bleez, and Arkillo.
Some of my stuff came in, I didn’t know but here is the lowdown:
Animal Man #1 and #2.
Red Lanterns #2.
All-Star Superman Vol. 1 TPB.
Hitman Vol. 1 TPB.
Jonah Hex Vol. 1 TPB.
EDIT: Slow in here, usually busy after comic hauls.
Detective Comics was an improvement this week over the last issue. Art was smoother (anyone notice Bruce looks almost exactly like the TAS one?) it actually feels like a different artist and for all I know it is, didn’t check but I like this better. Maybe someone ghosting for Daniel? Since some panels seems completely off like when he speaks to Gordan, and his nose keeps growing in each panel.
Story slowed down and let me make sense of everything, I think Daniels needs to pace himself like this more and just ease up. Not a 100% improvement overall but I enjoyed it better, even if the ending just kind of fell through.
I like it, given that guy’s “history” I’m sure drama and extra layers will be added from #5 onward, and would give a good reason as to why she is being dicked around currently. Plus she is now related to the most badass man of all.
Scott Snyder I didn’t know about until late, but so far his stories are a joy to read. Considering Batman and Swamp Thing are in my top 5 comics yes, I can say I am a fan.
What title is everyone enjoying the most out of New 52? It’s hard for me to say so far really, although as you guys can tell I am gravitating toward the Bat titles and darker comics in general.
This week my wallet weeps, SO many titles both DC and Marvel. Put a list together when I get home.
We need more discussion in here people, let’s get some topics going so I don’t have to talk Tizoc’s ear off the whole time.
Which one? Lol so far JL wise I rank them as JLI, JLD, then JL. Semi-biased but the first issue of JL really didn’t grab me.
B&R is a good pick, I love the direction it is taking with the more interesting new villain. It seems all the Bat titles are introducing new villains for him which is cool, Batman always has fun additions to his gallery. I still think they should make Murmur a bat villain and bring in The Phantasm proper.
I think…either Resurrection Man, OMAC, or Swamp Thing is my favorite new title. I was really surprised by all of them more or less.
JL, the Lee and Johns book. I have zero point zero interest in picking up the other JL books. Maybe if they put Nightwing in one of them or something.
Have to admit that Swamp Thing didn’t do it for me. Just found it mind numbingly boring. Snyder’s Batman was more like the type of comics I enjoy reading. That’s just me personally. Seems like almost everyone else digs Swamp Thing.
Animal Man is my personal fav so far. Interesting power, cool family life, I like the art because its so different. And its got a ‘horror’-ish vibe to it.
I’m not a huge fan of “traditional” capes so JL is kind of w/e to me (mostly a mutant fan on Marvel’s side, aside from the new DD). The Batbooks are the exception to that anti-cape rule I arbitrarily follow ('Tec, B&R, BM, NW, BW). B&R was good, acid vat owning villain seems awesome and Damian is a hilariously cocky 10 year old to contrast Bruce’s stern old man character, main Batman is probably my 2nd favorite book. Nightwing was just alright to me, not enough happened, even though Dick is a cool character because he is more “normal” than Bruce’s upper class character.
Swamp Thing 1 was horribly boring but 2 picked up for me and I think Seethe is going to end up being a cool bad guy.
AS Western was cool too, I’m going to read atleast the 1st two arcs. 1 - I’m a sucker for Jack the Ripper stories (I just red Alan Moore’s “From Hell” novel and it was sooo good, I’m a sucker for esoteric stuff.) Then atleast one arc after Jonah goes back West to see what that is going to be like.
DCU Presents I think is going to be a cool series, depending on who they focus on each arc, Deadman is interesting enough to hold my attention.
I’ll probably pick up Action #2 just because of Morrison’s profile.
Sano at least check out JLI, just a fantastic mesh of a team with a mix of action, humor, and a good story. Also it has Batman and he’s a pimp and about the only one who believes in Booster besides me. Booster and Rocket Red kind of steal the show, Red just makes me literally lol.
Animal Man is the best for me (except that i don’t like his costume but hey it isn’t a ‘superhero’ comic primarily)
Batman is next
But oddly the only titles that felt ‘so-so’ to me is green arrow and yet to read an actual “meh” from the bunch
