DC Comics Thread

Ha ha so in the newest issue of Batman Inc. Morrison just made the old Japanese Bat-Manga Lord Death Man story canon! ALL BAT WRITERS STEP YOUR CRAZY UP! Too freaking good! :clapdos:

Don’t fuck with LORD DEATH, such a cool name, I hope he utilizes the character well in a storyline.

Best Batman series. Frank Miller is godlike.

Gotta say I didn’t enjoy the first non-JMS issue of Wonder Woman this week. I don’t blame the writer or anything because it’s a hard act to follow especially if you are just going with an outline. Blarg at JMS focusing on the Earth One reboot that I have no interest in reading at all. Aaaand back to my regularly scheduled program of not reading Wonder Woman.

I’m going to drop WW for now. So far non-JMS Superman hasn’t been bad but they haven’t really dealt with the main story just yet. When Superman gets back to walking then we’ll be able to see how things measure up.

I really liked both books while JMS was writing them. Same old same old. Whenever I try reading Superman or Wonder Woman either I lose interest or something happens behind the scenes to get me to drop them. I’d like to not be only be a Batman DC fan but they sure don’t make it easy sometimes.

I don’t understand, why is it easy for writers to write Batman but it’s hard to write Superman & Wonder Woman?

It’s not, it’s easy for both. Superman has actually been alright before JMS got ahold of him and War with Krypton happened Fuck that event BTW, ruined a good years worth of storytelling and countless potentional. Wonder Woman on the other hand is an odd case, DC will hit gold with a certain run Rucka & Perez then suddenly pull the rug out from under it, make the next writer throw it all out, and make what the previous writer did off limits. Happened to Rucka’s run hard, the most successful the book has ever been, the book is loved by damn near everyone, the character is evoling, she actually has a decent costume, Themiscarya is being used well, adn interesting things are being done with the Gods. But seeing how it’s not what Editorial had envisoned it all got blown up or taken away to never be used again, yes I am salty about DC Editorial for alot of things.

Merry Christmas

So lemme see if i’m fully getting it
Each hero that Batman recruits will actuly put a Batman costume and not just a badge or banner?

Not necessarily. Nightrunner kept his outfit but added a Batman kind of tag to it. Mr. Unknown changed his outfit because he wanted another identity.

Also, because it bring the Batman from Bat-Manga into canon. He even fights Dr. Gorilla from the Bat-manga on the last page.

One of the guys at my local comic shop mentionned a rumor of Cass Cain taking on the mantle of Nightwing. Anyone heard anything to confirm or deny this rumor?

Nope.

THAT WOULD BE SO TOTALLY BADASS, CAN ANYONE CONFIRM OR DE-

Oh. Well.

Sano ruins everything.

Yep!

I think morrison’s artists on batman have been good from start to finish. As far as new x-men, for me there are only one or two issues with truly terrible art. The rest is quietly goodness or bachalo goodness or evs okayness, and of course a great final silvestri arc.

Of course, i was a huge valiant fan, so what do i know about art.

And i still say they should give wonder woman back to rucka

WHOA!!! I can’t confirm or deny this, however Cass as Nightwing would be the shit. She’s perfect

Cass as Nightwing makes no sense

There was something I was wondering about Gotham. Is Gotham Chicago or NY?

New York City, since it was always a North Eastern City that was supposed to represent New York City from the very beginning. Never Chicago.

Manhattan and New York City both exist within the DC Universe too. The general consensus is that Gotham City is 14th St. and below.

Take as you will but in Batman The Animated series they showed the Statue of Liberty before as part of Gotham. The Statue of Liberty is way below 14th St.

In the comics Batman has ventured to Chinatown before, which is also below 14th Street. But when Joker was at the United Nations during Death in the Family the story was regarded to take place in New York City, which is above 14th Street.

It’s pretty hard to tell with the live action movies what they are going for since they seem to interpret Gotham City however they feel like interpreting it. Well to be fair the movies don’t really have to deal with the entirety of the DCU I guess so Gotham can probably look however they want it to.

I was always under the impression that Gotham City is in New Jersey and Metropolis is in New York. Bludhaven’s somewhere south of Gotham. Keystone City is in Kansas, Central City in Missouri, Opal City in Maryland, Coast City in northern California. Hub City’s supposed to be based on East St. Louis. I have no idea where Star City is supposed to be. I’m amazed I even know what I know.

I thought it was funny in Busiek’s Avengers/JLA crossover when the JLA entered the Marvel Universe and Superman noticed that the Marvel Earth was smaller and less populated.

NYC’s nickname is Gotham…don’t you people read daily variety?!

Also that’s one thing I always preferred about DC over Marvel. Marvelites were always like ā€œomg Marvel stories take place in real cities so it’s so much more relatable!!ā€ but I always thought that made them much less relatable, because I knew there was no Four Freedoms Plaza in NYC, or Spider-Man swinging around there etc; whereas There could be some place called Keystone City or Metropolis or Coast City where those heroes were operating.
