DC comic character will soon "come out of closet."

Not when DC is just doing this because Northstar, of Alpha Flight fame, is getting married next month.

Wait I just thought about something. Who says it has to be a good guy? What if it’s a villain?

How about Lex Luthor? He’s been formidable enough opponent for Superman and like… everyone, and is not just a token bad guy, so gay rights activists can’t complain “oh so why does the gay guy have to be evil?”

It’d be very fitting… and actually kinda badass for Supes to not just get bested by a human, but a sassy one at that.

But what’s the real world frequency of that happening and more importantly why is important in a industry that is largely aimed at straigt young males. It isn’t a issue of needing more"insert demographic here"type of characters but rather about creating engaging and interesting characters and stories. Nothing about this creative decision speaks to me as something done for the integrity of the story or character development, it’s purely something to do to get brownie points with PC groups and to give the illusion of progression. DC is going about this all wrong and they are repeating the mistake they made with turning jordan heel just to push Kyle.

yarg, not every gay guy is “sassy” and honestly it would only piss me off to see a hero or villian who realizes they’re gay start to act like a fucking fairy. Come on, do we really want to see Lobo talking about fashion and interior decorating? Nightwing on the other hand would be sexy BL yaoi goodness gay.

They already did that this year in Teen Titans with a new character from Mexico (ah, 2-for-one) codenamed Bunker.

They could theoretically integrate a new gay character that isn’t just a stereotype/sales grab.

I’m not saying it has a snowball’s chance in hell of happening, but it is possible.

What happened in World’s Finest 1?

I was just joking. I wouldn’t want to see him sassy either.

I don’t think this is a god viewpoint to take. Wasn’t the initial goal of the X-men supposed to be somewhat of a social commentary on civil rights issues? A gay prominent character would just be more of the same. Comics are hardly a reflection of the real world, but with issues that affect homosexuals being more prominent I think it makes sense to have some gay comic book characters. Just because it’s fan service or something like that doesn’t mean it’s a bad idea for it to happen regardless of motives.

If the internet existed in the 1940s I imagine a bunch of folks would’ve been having a similar discussion about black people in movies.

Basically every comic’s convention I have ever been to has had people asking the DC panels to have more LGBT characters, so this isn’t completely out of left field.

Actually, I kind of do now… right before he impales someone with a curtain rod and calls them a bastich.

All mainstream comics are a massive clusterfuck of meandering storylines that nobody should give a shit about.

Come at me, gentlemen.

It’s a ruse. They are going to make a secondary, ancillary character come out through a clever ploy to get us to buy more comics this month in order to find out who’s gay.

:3

Fuck, The image is in my mind now and against my better judgement I approve.

green lantern…j/k you know it’s gonna be aquaman!

New 52 Aquaman is pretty awesome.

Why the hell would you want to have gay characters

Its gonna be Lobo and were all gonna be mindfucked by it.

Fuck you DC, you are hella gay for not getting in on that fighting game bandwagon when Capcom was still good.

It’s not that I think mixing comics with politics is a problem, it’s just the manner in which politics are implemented is often done in poor taste IMO. Gay characters are almost always included for the sake of media appeal, and their sexuality is forcefully written on their sleeve to the point that you might as well have huge neon flashing letters saying"look at me I’m gay, I’m so progressive".

I don’t mind the idea of including more gays into comics, I’m just agaisnt including them for the sake of exposure.

If its a dude, will he be like “Faboulous” gay or “I’m manly, but i suck dicks too” gay?

Is Riddler gay yet? He’s gay.

I’d actually prefer a gay superhero that embodied every possible stereotype.
That way, they could avoid insulting anyone’s intelligence.

Have fun with it, DC.

“Holy tight glutes, Batman. Killer Croc isn’t the only boy in town who’d like to take a bite out of you.”

“…Thanks, man. We should really find that basketball team, though.”
