Dayton, Ohio: Where fun goes to die

Are we all still down for Tuesday at AL? I haven’t seen Zach much around these here parts posting so I wasn’t sure.

Also, Dayton, you better get hype. I expect to see some of you in my Tatsunoko vs Capcom side tournament this coming Saturday. $2 bucks down, fun for all.

No AL this Tuesday. Jesse isn’t working.

Thursday, please. Thursday.

Thursday should be fine for me, I think.

Yup I should be there as well

There is a new BlazBlue matchup chart on Dustloop that I found pretty interesting.

-Nu is now the second best character behind Rachel. Don’t tell Gamefaqs or there will be riots.

-Taokaka has a point value of zero meaning she is literally as average as possible. She was given a 40/60 against Arakune which I think is a little optomistic but eh.

-Litchi is the fourth WORST which is a little silly to me. Maybe its just because of the great Litchis in our area.

-The matchups, in general, are a lot closer and more fair than thought a few months ago. Nu went from roughly 110 points to 60. The gap between top 3 and everyone else is not huge anymore.

-This exludes Tager who went from “Just as bad as Hakumen and Carl” to “Easily the worst character by a landslide”. His only good matchup is vs Hakumen but that’s even an uphill battle if they can counter on reaction.

This is why I’m not a huge fan of patching because nobody is interested in seeing if problems actually exist long term. If developers took these complaints seriously during the MvC2 era Cammy and Doom would have been nerfed in 2002.

Link to the thread if people want to see it themselves.
I had to go see it, just to giggle at how low Tager is.

Yes yes, Tager is awful, let’s keep everyone in the darkness just a little bit longer.

I would say that Nu is still the best since Rachel only is higher in points due to a one sided Carl matchup that is still advantageous for Nu, add to that that she has 1 more good matchup and one less bad and that she has good matchups vs the other top two. I’m really fucking scared of Tager, how can he be that bad? One combo into tech trap kills you.

Only way to really understand the matchup chart is to compare it vs. how you personally do against those characters.

I.E.

I suck vs. Ragna. I don’t know what to do because he can SRK all day, he has better range then I do, he does more damage. That matchup isn’t in Noel’s favor anyways as I expected. But the matchup seems even WORSE to me because I just suck vs. Ragna regardless of what character I play. So for me personally it’s probably a 2-8.

On the flip side that Noel/Ara matchup shouldn’t be 4-6. A good Ara has no reason whatsoever to lose to Noel. She has no tools whatsoever to deal with his best stuff. (her best AA clashes with his best jump in…upper body invincibility eh?)

But to flip it back over again…If I played a character that had tools to deal with him, I wouldn’t bitch nearly as much about it.

It’s the same situation with any matchup chart though. You have to look at it against your personal experience and meld it into something that works for you. For me, Ara is a 3-7 at best, Carl is 5-5, Ragna is 4-6 at best, and the rest are pretty much even. I don’t mind Nu, Rachel, Jin or anyone else really. If I lose to those chars it’s because the person is better then me, not because I have a horribly bad advantage.

So Fred, you need to learn how to fight Tager. Get your blockstrings on point and bait his throws and CH’s. Ahh…but you played Dizzy in GG, so Pot was never that bad for you. Have to come with a totally different strategy vs. him.

@Lee

The deal with Litchi is the same thing as I-no and Johnny in GG. When you play someone who knows how to play the char…the char seems top tier because their mixups are good and they have some solid setups and oki. Problem is it took that person a huge amount of time to learn the character in the first place…and they probably spent all that time losing because their char doesn’t have the priority, easy damage opportunities and requires huge amounts of execution in relation to the rest of the cast.

So Litchi is low moreso because she’s probably the hardest character in the game to learn. But once you learn her, I doubt the matchups are really that bad. And honestly, she has a lot of even matchups, or close to even especially against the top three…but she also has even matchups with the low tier as well, as opposed to just bowling over them.

not an official arcadia tier chart = matt doesn’t care.

Ah, Thursday works better for me! I should definitely be able to make it down.

Ha really? If that’s the case then why even sticky that?

Bleh. Get me a real matchup chart and I guess we can argue and complain about it for real. Otherwise I know what my matchup chart looks like.

I guess I wasn’t clear. The thread exists to create a matchup chart over time, and that’s where they are so far.

Besides…

Magazine<People who have played the game

you’ve got it quite backwards there, Lee. the magazine tier list is made by people who are the absolute best at their respective character, not by DL’s BB section. these are also the players that play the absolute best players of every other character on a regular basis, quite unlike anyone outside of Japan, obviously. Arcadia’s tier lists are almost always the most accurate, but making tier lists is always inaccurate in everyone else’s opinion. but with BB there’s just no point to making a more “accurate” tier list. 1.) the top 3 are really, really good with Nu beating out just about everyone (the only reason Rachel is above her is because of the Carl match) and 2.) Tager is absolutely the most awful grappler Arc has ever made. that is all a BB tier list needs.

also, 4chan’s BB discussion is generally more intelligent than anything happening in the BB section on DL. so anything that comes out of that pile of shit automatically sucks. I almost hate the weeaboo faggots that plague DL now more that I hate BB… well, almost.

Reporting into forums for first time. Just letting yall know im gonna try to make it to AL this saturday. After all, i cant miss out on Pope’s TvC tournament, it’s gonna be epic.

I just posted the next AL tourney up here: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?p=7523070#post7523070

I’m looking for rule sets for SFA3, T6 and GGXXS. Any help is appreciated.

Going to try and make it up there this saturday after talking about it at sinclair

just a general question:

anybody have my ps2 av cord? pretty sure I left one at AL one time, and then i grabbed my ps3 one, since i just use hdmi for that, and i don’t see it around anymore either. just let me know if you guys know anything about this. i have an rf adapter for temporary use, but i prefer the av route if possible obviously. so yeah, if you got it, lemme know.

Edit: also, Jesse, if you’re running slash on arcade, no additional rules are necessary.

Edit 2: thanks for bringing the knowledge, Eric. Arcadia tier lists are made by the best of the best, who are actually used to all matchups. Even with online play, I would say there are very few people in America who are truly experienced at every matchup, and of those, I would bet money that less than 10 (that’s being conservative) are involved in that thread. And even of those that have consistent matchup experience with the whole cast, within such a group, there’s usually only one or two guys that stand out as exceptional players, if any. In such a group, there would be a bias for these good players to downplay the difficulty of an unfavorable matchup. It’s a lot different from a magazine getting the best players in the nation together to play and discuss to decide on what’s accurate.

The thread’s a nice gesture or idea or whatever, but I question the necessity of it. For one thing, you can’t use this “new” tier chart as an example that the matchups have changed. What has changed is the individuals who are giving their opinion, not necessarily the matchups. If I poll SRK and ask who prefers GG over SF, then I do the same poll 6 months later on dustloop, it doesn’t mean that GG is suddenly the most preferred fighting game. It just means that I asked different people. I didn’t read the whole thread, but does that guy just take anybody’s opinion, or do you have to show some credentials first? If you just plain suck, and you keep losing a matchup that you shouldn’t, should your opinion count?

Pope uses Revive on Snorlax.

Anyone wanna team up in the BB 2v2?
I play Tagerlax, durrrrrrr.

Alright, for this Friday’s Sinclair gathering, I will need another TV/Monitor something. I am absolutely sick of fighting with those damned brawl kids over use of the TV. This is pretty crucial, though I don’t think a huge crowd of them will be down on Friday, in order for us to maximize our playing time, I figure a TV/Monitor would be key.

Good games to Nick in TvC and Luna in just general chilling. Always nice to kill the downtime with games, as well as meet new people.
