Cool story bro. Can we ignore this guy and just talk about high level VS instead? waits for Magz, gbursine, b-izm, etc
It gets lack of play because there’s heavy execution involved in so many areas. I agree it isn’t ST, but so many street fighter fundamentals carry over minus fireball zoning, since the fireball is not as good as in ST.
Most people can’t tech block in 1 hit and they figure it’s impossible and never practice it, and give up that way.
There are people who see the light and play it though. I myself am going to Japan to play this in a good community mainly, more than I want to play 3s or SF4 there.
If you haven’t played the game…ask someone to teach you and try it yourself though. It’s really worth the try, and I can almost guarantee you will have fun with it if you like SF type of games in general.
Man…low level Vampire Savior was too boring.
I just picked Talbain and chained into a bunch of shit…and when they figured me out I picked BB hood and turtled.
BB hood has to be the coolest and most enjoyable charge character in FG history IMO.
P.S- Mainly playing on GGPO during its early days.
When I played against someone who actually knew how to play other characters I lost…bad.
I’d characterize VS by some basic (obvious) factors and system mechanics and then go from there:
- The game is blisteringly fast.
- Characters are highly mobile for a Capcom game. Some have airdashes, and all have grounddashes of some type. Many have specials that move them across the screen somehow.
- You can attack out of dashes.
- There are no air juggles or air combos at all. Once you hit somebody in the air, they’re unhittable until they land.
- Light attacks generally have some +6/+7 frame advantage on block/hit.
- The way the lifebar works with the white/red damage (autorecover system), damage streaks in a row are really good.
Pretty much what this tells you is that essentially everybody in the game plays some rushdown because all the factors point to how good it is. Because you don’t get air combos, the game is all about getting knockdowns and keeping on the pressure with a tightly-executed okizeme game. Even the only couple characters that could possibly want to play a runaway or zoning game in most matchups go for damage off of their oki game whenever they get a knockdown.
In terms of getting into advantaged positions whereupon you can pressure your opponent, it’s similar to SF. After somebody is at an advantage–upon knockdown, or after a blocked jump-in, or after a blocked light dash attack, or some such–the pressure options with the magic series chain system and really good light attacks would resemble newer styles of games.
My beef with the game, however, is that a significant portion of defense lies in guard cancels and tech hits (push blocks), both of which cost no meter. Tech hits give you frame advantage, and guard cancels pretty much reset the situation and deal marginal damage. They’re both balanced only by the difficulty of executing them. Unfortunately, this at low level play this means they don’t show up at all, and at high level play they can be executed all the time as long as the defender anticipates the attacker is going to attack. In that sense, it’s rather parry-ish. However, without these tools and in this rushdown environment, nobody would survive at all so it’s necessary to the game. I just wish there were a more elegant way about making the game manageable.
There’s a fairly significant separation between the tiers: top tier averages something like 6 to 6.5 on average out of 10 vs. the rest of the cast. However, in national tournaments you still see plenty of low tier chars placing high. Everybody has tools to win anyway, and there’s a reasonably diverse cast of characters to play unless you’re looking for a fireball zoner. If you want to play the neutral game of Street Fighter on steroids and then move into pressure strings and knockdown loops, it’s a fun game to play that has some depth.
For me, I just really enjoy high level play of Savior. It’s entertaining as hell. I didn’t really care for it as a serious game until I saw a lot of it’s matches back in the day @ New Challenger.net (good times). It was casual before that.
It’s extremely underrated but then again I see why. It is the granddaddy of Marvel, or should I say the prototype of Marvel using the magic series, air guard, and all. It seems like the Marvel series just took off better than it’s ancestor.
So I dunno the series is good. The U.S community is very small though just like the Virtua fighter community. I think Vampire is slightly bigger however lol. I think? Anyway, great games hopefully a sequel has already begun.
Where is the Jojo’s appreciation thread?
I’ve tried facing a few high level players on GGPO.
Only my Felicia was able to stand up against them.
Darkstalkers is one of my favorite fighters, i wish Capcom would remake it or make a new, damn do i miss playing jedah
idk…make one?
Seriously tho, vampire savior is one of my favorite fighting games. I always kind of secretly wished that there were air juggles but that would probably just give Q.Bee some kind of flying semi-infinite and make her more broke than she already is.
What did happen to VS in GGPO? I was looking forward to that.
So anyway since I’m a VS noob, how do players tech on the very first hit?
Best Capcom fighting game period.
Better then 3S, ST, MvC2, all of them put together.

You know, it’s the same for me. Funny how that Felicia wasn’t that high on the list last I checked. She’s so easy to use though.
IMO this was capcom’s peak. This era was also when that SNK-capcom line started to blur and I started enjoying Capcom games again.
The method i use to tech on 1st hit is i slide from right to left then left to right with these buttons(HP, MP, LP, LP, MP, HP) in that order…practice makes perfect…and remember, you can’t press two buttons at the same time only 6 separate inputs.

thankyou VS jesus
O Rly?
edit: Hard Bread, that’s also the method I use. I tried drumming the buttons at first it didn’t work. I usually made a mistake doing so. And you know well this game don’t take kindly to mistakes. Sadly enough if V. Savior had no regenerating white life. It would be unforgiving.
Love Vampire.
Wish I had time to play VS more often then I do now.
Thank you psycho
I give the Vampire series a lot of respect and love it dearly.
The artistic direction of the series is brilliant and so many areas of it revolutionary.
If anyone wants to learn and be tutored I can do that on GGPO. I would prefer people have some good fundamentals skills so I don’t have to go over tick throwing and spacing etc. It should be fun though :bgrin:
It ain’t no Killer Instinct 2 OST, VS had a good OST. Four best songs on the game was:
