DARKSTALKERS RESURRECTION coming to XBLA and PSN

It’s 912 pixels long as opposed to the 720 pixels of the other stages. This could put characters that rely heavily on the corner (i.e., Fish) at an unnecessary disadvantage.

There’s a DS: Resurrection exhibition tournament on Spooky’s stream at 6:00 PM EST/3:00 PM PST. Stay tuned to watch some of the country’s best players duke it out!

Hey, look, it’s good Lei-Lei in a good game

Let’s go Vexco!

Man, people are really sleeping on the Vampire tourneys when good players are actually playing.

Honestly, VSav was the hypest thing at Final Round, so far. How is floE so good, I’ve never seen him play this game!?

Floe’s been playing for a long time, actually. His Victor’s really solid but he doesn’t pushblock for some reason, which can (and should) be exploited.

He’s using the techable punch grab followup a lot more, a move Kame used at the last DCC and isn’t usually seen otherwise. Only the knockdown portion of the move is techable, so you still get full damage if the opponent is trying to countermash.

Haitani vs. DD Sasquatch mirror of the century

Sako, Oboro, Sakamoto, and maybe Kaji are also in attendance

Wow, how many characters is Sako good with? I didn’t know he used QBee, too. That DD guy and his Squatch are beastly though. He looks like he’s bouncing.lol

Sakomoto uses Bee. Sako (no ‘moto’, as in SF4 Ibuki/3S Urien Sako) uses Bulleta and Lei and, today, Zabel. Maybe he felt like messing around or being a dick. I recall seeing him play Zabel in the past.

I eventually came to realize that was a different Sako, when he picked Raptor. lmao
And I don’t think I like Sasquatch, either. He looks almost as annoying to fight as Talbain. Just glad I never came across a good Squatch.

Oh they are but I think Q-Bee is far worse imo.

I thought this was pretty awesome. Talks about the origins of a lot of the characters.

@iambuttmustard Arrgh you beat me to it!
I still wonder where they got Anakaris from…
And I so want to see Elena lion (Elioness?) woman in DS4.

after playing Savior for awhile, Night Warriors feels like absolute snails pace. I was going to main Donovan i think he’s a cool character but he seems really bad and really slow. any seasoned NW players know whats up with him? Bishamon seems pretty good I might pick him up if Donovans not cuttin the butter

Anak’s origin shouldn’t be a mystery.

Bulleta/B.B. Hood is a clever twist on conventional Little Red Riding Hood imagery/figures, but might even draw inspiration from this Dahl poem:

Funny they didn’t go over Lei-Lei’s origin as a trope subversion of a Jiang Shi, which featured prominently in 80s Hong Kong cinema. Probably too much for a short video.

Not exactly a seasoned player with Donovan or the game in particular. But it’s all about controlling space with his sword plant & summon. Close the gap by using a mixture of his slide and dive. I would save his bar for ES moves, not his supers. Especially since his ES sword summon hits on the way back to him.

Had no idea a filthy American was behind my Darkstalkers!

Here’s some info on Donovan translated from a Japanese message board post:

“Swordless dash attacks” refers to a glitch where Donovan’s dash punches have the sword version hitboxes while the sword is planted.

good shit guys thanks for all the info, i’ll work on it. after watchin some tournament footage I realize he’s not that bad he’s just not mix-up city like a lot of the cast in VS is.

So finally picked this up today. I wasn’t ready to play it but with this month’s XBLA bonus sale I was all like “Hell yeah!”.

Anyway I love Darkstalkers 3 even though it’s not the fighting game I’m best it, it’s still probably my favorite 2D fighter after 3S. There is something about that no matter what changes about me a person, when I pick this game up it’s still a treat for the hands, eyes, and ears. Makes me a bit giddy really. But I’ve got some issues…

Was DS always kinda tough to nail the inputs? I feel like it takes a bit more precision than what I guess modern fighters require. Which is fine but I just want to be sure that sloppy motions is the reason why I’m not nailing the moves I want.

Darkstalkers 1 was very much an incomplete, imperfect game.

There was more broken there besides the controller sensitivity… Seems to be an issue on many first-game releases in Capcom series.

Going from Darkstalkers 1 to NightWarriors (aka Darkstalkers 2 aka Vampire Hunter) would be like going from the original Street Fighter II game to at least Super Street Fighter II. There’s more animations added, better character portraits, more audio, more characters period, and a better-balanced game. Still better-balanced than the follow-up, Vampire Savior, in my opinion.

Oh, and neither game is particularly slow. The only people saying that are ones that haven’t bothered to turn Turbo on both games and play at Turbo Level 2 or higher.

I have the Japanese PS3 release on disc. Arcade-perfect from what I’ve seen so far. Darn shame it isn’t transferrable to the system from the disc, yes, but I’m one of those “crazy people” that still prefers to have a physical copy of a game on 5-inch platters thank-you-very-much!

I can’t judge the American version since I only have the demo download but I’m already seeing a few possible audio drops/dialogue deletions. (<SIGH> They had this problem in the Marvel Vs Capcom 2 port, too.)

The basic differences between NightWarriors and Vampire Hunter were animation and audio cuts to make the American port seem less cute than the original version. These cuts occur primarily with Morrigan (deleted audio where she floats up on a bed of bats in one victory pose) and Sasquatch – there was a victory animation of snowmen that was deleted. Funny stuff!

I have to doublecheck because it’s been a while since I played the Saturn port (which was a near-perfect port of the US release which never made it past test in California) but I believe that there was only one audio cut for Demitri in the US version of DS2. For the victory pose where Demitri is surrounded by flame, there’s a fierce roar of fire; that was cut in the US release (near as I can remember). In the demo, which admittedly is NOT the full unlocked port, I’m seeing at least 2 audio clips (dialogue) deleted for Demitri. These WERE in the arcade AND Saturn English releases. Not a huge thing, yes, BUT why are they missing anyway??? For that matter, why bother at this point in time to do a “perfect edited” release (US version) and just release the Japanese version with ALL the animation and audio on both sides of the Pacific, only difference being the title changes, character name swaps, and English in the cut scenes???

The changes between Japan to US were so arbitrary and make very little sense. There wasn’t any legal issue with names like SFII and the game remains a non-serious one in the sense that it’s not really grim and gritty. Any violence and gore is pretty quick but more on a Tom and Jerry level versus Mortal Kombat. It’s cartooney and one of the big reasons the game was a big draw for many people besides the classic monster archetypes theme.

That was the big thing BOTH Capcom and SNK did back then that was annoying. (Worse for home console Neo Geo owners paying $200 per cart for arcade perfect ports only to find out that SNK honestly thought children were buying these games! The Neo Geo owners didn’t know whether to laugh or scream and pull their hair out at the time…) “White blood” in US releases (which to my way of thinking is MORE OBSCENE than red blood if you get my meaning) and meaningless cuts to suit “American tastes.” The cuts don’t speed up the load times, don’t impact gameplay for the better, and the game STILL comes off goofy because it was meant to be a parody fighter!!!

P.S. – It’s not that I’m the world’s biggest nitpick BUT after existing for close to 20 years ports of games like this SHOULDN’T be noticeably flawed and/or missing audio elements!

I’ve played these games so many times over the years that things like this stick out like a sore thumb and just grate on my nerves… almost as bad as fanboy system wars.

This kind of stuff was picked over back then and when the SF Alpha 2 port arrived late on the SNES it was so obviously flawed and ridiculed 'cuz it was so bad compared to the PS1 and Saturn ports. ((The Saturn port was near-perfect despite tinny-sounding voice and load times, which although faster the PS1, were still too annoying and annoying. PS1 port was more than acceptable with noticeably longer load times. Honestly, the first system that loaded CPS-2 ports within decent time frames was the Dreamcast… The PS2 did the CPS-2 ports even better with lesser/next-to-no-load after first game loading because of the increased memory… The basic game engine could be kept in memory and characters loaded as needed.))
