So since big companies are starting to do kickstarters to fund games they’re unsure of on interest (Shenmue), I was thinking that this might be our chance to get Capcom to start a Darkstalkers kickstarter. They were unsure of interest before, but with a kickstarter funding it, the risk is gone and the interest is plainly there for them to see.
I’ve already done it myself, but tweet Ono asking for a Darkstalkers reboot Kickstarter. With the recent success of Bloodstained and Shenmue 3’s kickstarters, we might just have the momentum we need to finally get a new installment in the Darkstalkers franchise.
I’m sure the big companies using kickstater is against the terms of service. Shenmue can get away with it because the kickstater obtain the license from Sega.
Yeah the fans fucked over Capcom. By not buying enough copies of a game that was released in 1997…that has been ported countless times before to various consoles and with more features. You don’t know what you are talking about.
OP a kickstarter isn’t going to happen. It is indie game developers or individuals that start these, not massive companies.
So what? We were suppose to all buy a game that has been re-released multiple times already? With no graphical update or changes what so ever? just in hopes that a sequel would be made?
Sadly thats just how capcom decides, which of their series get sequels… isnt that how mvc3 was made? Due to the success of the rerelease of mvc2… hell they’re doing the same with DMC, rereleasing dmc4 to gauge if people really want the old series to be revived and get a proper sequel… its double edge practice for the company…
It’s stagnating the hell out of them. Games like the SF HD remix and Residet Evil 2 Re-release sell well because those franchises are already well proven. Where as franchises like Darkstalkers, would need a reboot to have a chance because it didn’t catch on with a lot of people first time around. But it did develop a cult following which shows the series does have potential. It’s up to them wether they want to take a chance on that potential I get that. But either go for it or not at all. Can’t play it safe all the time and expect to make any real money. And that’s what Capcom has become. A company that’s so afraid of failure that they now just play it safe with re-releases and new installments of their best selling franchises.
SF2 HD remix only happened because Sirlin made the game on his own time and was close enough to done that Capcom just went 'Fuck it. Fine. We’ll release it."
Capcom really wanted nothing to do with it.
Capcom is still one of the few companies out there who takes the most chances. Last gen they published and made tons of New ips.
OK I’ll give them that. During the 2000’s they did put out a lot of new shit like Viewtiful Joe, Okami, Dragon’s Dogma and what not, so I’m being a lil unfair. But recently they have become stagnant. I guess when you put out a bunch of new stuff and it all doesn’t sell all that well, you’ll wind up feeling hesitant to take chances. But still that’s the nature of this business. Get back to the drawing board and either see what new IP’s you can come up with or how can you improve and reintroduce some old ones that may have potential. I.E Remember Me. Game had a great concept, and visuals. But the core gameplay was meh and they barely utilize that unique memory mixing gimmick. How’s about a part two that fixes those short comings?
FYI, Capcom has admitted that MvC 3 was well into development before the MVC2 port was ever finished. Look it up.
And people who think DSR was the equivalent of Kickstart AND was a good idea are fuggin idiots, in absolute honesty. The entire game has been free on GGPO for years. Look around, only Capcom does shit like this.
The idea that anyone would want Capcom’s inept asses to ruin the series with another game is just as dumb as the idea that the 10th rerelease of a 20 year old game was a good way gauge interest.
Fixed the tense. Left as it was made the above statement utter nonsense.
I did buy DSR so that I could play with some old arcade homies but I completely agree that it was a ridiculous way to for Capcom to test the waters for a new Darkstalkers.
Fighting games are a niche market. So look at what they released last generation. SF4, SFXT, MVC3. Now for the new generation comes SF5. No they aren’t taking any risks as far as fighting games are concerned.
Look around at what? What FACTS are you bringing to the table? “Tons of new ips”, in comparison to who? In the last 9 years, they have much less than 9 AAA original projects. Capcom is near the bottom in this regard, compared to other Japanese companies and most other JP giants are terrible, too. Their risk aversion is in a league of its own.
The idea you just threw out here would only make a lick of sense if you were being sarcastic. I’m sorry but I couldn’t help myself, the statement caught me off gaurd.
And just so folks know, I’ve NEVER wanted capcom to touch Darkstalkers. I knew from SFIV that Capcom lacks the ability to make decent VGs on a consistent basis.
