DarkStalkers 4 Speculation

No Captivate this year. http://www.vg247.com/tag/captivate-2013/<br><br>

Damn, all this Lilith hate, can’t a guy just shoot someone into the wall like an arrow from a bow, throw a tophat at him/her and make him/her dance him/herself to death in peace?<br>

Shoryuken swallowed my initial post, so I made a summary of my lost post. But my original post was spat out an hour later and it’s right underneath this one. So the summary won’t be needed anymore.<br>

Maybe MK, def not a new DS.</span></font></div>
</blockquote>A new DS is a possibility, because of the rerelease on XBL/PSN(I think they did the same thing with Marvel) and Ono got a game greenlit sometime around Evo. At several occasions Ono made some remarks, that a new Darkstalkers could be coming(<a href=“http://shoryuken.com/2012/07/13/yoshinori-ono-teases-darkstalkers-at-comic-con/”>like this for example</a>). Ofcourse in the Ono way, so who knows. But there is a possibility.<br><br>So there are signs for a new Darkstalkers, but there are also signs for a new Street Fighter game. I think it could be anything; Darkstalkers 4, Street Fighter Alpha 4 or Street Fighter 5. Maybe even a Capcom Allstars fighting game in the vein of MvC3(but without the hassle of having to deal with Marvel).<br>And maybe there is a new Darkstalkers in development, but we will never know. If the rerelease isn’t selling well enough and Capcom comes to the conclusion that a new Darkstalkers might not even come close to let’s say a million sales(just making that up), they might just cancel it. Would be cheaper than developing, producing and marketing a game that doesn’t sell.<br><br>However SF vs MK is something that I just can’t see happening.<br>

<font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”>@ NoUDont</span></font><div style=“font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: normal;”><span style=“font-weight: normal;”>On one hand, I think Cap waited too late for any sort DS game, they shoulda did it a long time ago, while Ono was teasing hard about it. On the other hand, if they actually wait until, next gen, it may not have been so bad a move, after all. That said, I don’t expect DS:R to sell any better than the other digital titles. Vampire is well over 15 years old, people should be grateful folks still play Vampire, at all (or even inquire about it as much as they do). I can’t think of single 90s fighter that people take as seriously as VSav, besides SFII (that is an unrecognized feat of greatness). I find it crazy that people always talk about this game like it’s not</span><b> old as hell, </b>that’s easily the heaviest thing weighing it down.</div><div><font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”><br></span></font></div><div><font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”>All and all, I don’t really care if they make a new DS, I’d be intensely curious to see what they’d do with it, but that’s about it. I just think Cap’s too short sighted to try and step beyond SF and crossovers when it comes to fighters (Vampire). They really don’t see the damage they are doing to those franchises when they slap Ryu into every game as if Street Fighter is some infinite fail safe switch that can save a fighting game. </span></font></div><div><br></div>

not trying to be negative, but i don’t think this game will happen, and even if it does, i don’t think it would sell.

It could sell, if advertised correctly and having a ‘wow’ factor that draws in people. There are more people aware of darkstalkers (thx to GGPO as well as MVC3 and previous VS games) than ever before.

I think it could sell, too; for the same reasons as stated above. And if it’s the only fighter that Capcom releases for a while. I think it’d fair even better if Capcom didn’t fuck it the hell up, but I just don’t think they’re capable of that getting beyond that last obstacle.

I actually like the original concept for Felicia as an African lioness queen (Shapeshifting Elena, basically). I’ve had a few other ideas since then…
-A Stephen King-esque author who writes horror novels. Bonus points if he’s voiced by the guy from the Resurrection trailers.
-The Gingerbread Man
-A Poltergeist made of kitchen appliances

Also, I truly hope that the winner of the character design contest doesn’t make DS4. That “Tomb Raider” design just comes off as a “f**k you” to Anakaris.

If capcom makes another barebones game like sf4 or umvc3 it might sell a million copies. If the make a fully featured game like mk9 or injustice with tons of content they would make a lot more money. If they do another cash grab like sfxt theyll go out of business.

Hey! What if they drop the whole cast and create a new game called Darkstalkers: Evolution, with a roster composed of entirely brand new characters, a la Street Fighter III?

Yeah and look how well that turned out for SFIII in terms of sales. Outside of the hardcore fans, most didn’t play it. I ain’t saying some new characters wouldn’t be welcomed. That would be very cool. But to just ditch the original roster all together? Imagine MK9 released without Scorpion, Sub Zero etc, or the new Killer Instinct without Fulgore, Jago, Orchid etc? Maybe re-design some of the original characters sure. I.E Lilith. She may not be a child but she looks and acts like one and is dressed provocatively and that’s what matters. That needs to change. But no need to start from scratch.

Morrigan absorbed Lilith at the end of Savior, so really Lilith shouldn’t be in the next game. If there was a DS4, Lilith shouldn’t exist and Morrigan would be much more powerful…perhaps we would see some of Lilith’s abilities along with her own.

What bout Victor and Jedah? they both died so does that mean they are not gonna make it to DS4? assuming there will ever be a DS4

Well it depends on which ending you look at. In Lilith’s ending she absorbs Morrigan right? Anyways I think Jedah and Victor would return. Lilith was always just a part of Morrigan and always destined to be reabsorbed when Morrigan was ‘ready’.

Plot can be explained to justify Lilith somehow. And, given how small the returning roster could even be, you could have a DS4 with half of the cast new without sacrficing old characters.

Morrigan absorbs her in either ending.

That said, it seems that Capcom wanted to treat them as being able to separate if need be. Remember her MvC1 intro? Both would appear and they’d just merge.

Excellent point. The series has only 18 characters with only 15 playable in Savior. It’s not like Street Fighter with a ridiculous amount of playable in the series. Probably well over 50. Darkstalkers roster should be expanded and a few old characters re-designed, not start over from scratch. Magegg has sugested this a few times. Wonder why he’s so hellbent on destroying the original cast?

Might as well throw in characters who might fit the series. IMO, Ruby Heart from MvC2, Tessa from Red Earth and maybe even Amingo from MvC2 could fit.

No reason they can’t retconed their endings. Honestly Darkstalkers should go the re-boot route. The lore while down right fascinating to me was never really put into a well thought out story. Everything’s vague and up in the air. Also the confliction with Demetri being the official main character and Morrigan being the unofficial main character. Who’s story is what’s canon for the series?

I think they should do a re-boot which has Morrigan as the main and explains the plot better and goes much deeper into the world of Makai. The other nobles, Belial, the world itself. They have all the pieces their with the lore. They just need to use it, and make sense out of it.
