Well, let me put it like this. Keeping SF4 and SFXT in mind…
Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on me.
Fool me three times…

Er how did you get fooled? Those were both good games. Yeah I know everyone is hating on SFxT right now but underneath it all is a fun game. And with the coming 2013 patch it will alleviate some of the issues people are bitching about (personally i’ve learn to appreciate SFxT for what it is). And SF4 is still huge after all these years.
If you are going to just remake the same game whats the point? Its never going to be quite the same as the original, it will always be different. Might as well take it as an opportunity to do something new. Anyways its pretty much guaranteed they will be bringing over mechanics from SF4/SFxT…
SG throws work because the normals are actually kind of slow.
Combos I’m against, mostly because VSav is so fast, back and forth which is why it is so fun. You spend most of your time fighting and converting a hit into huge damage isn’t the main focus (unless you are Rikuo or something…).
That reminds me, this is the original arcade version right? So Rikuo will have the easy version of bubble loops intact?
Because, as stated, these mechanics ruin the flow and the pace that has defined the game.
"Do yo play the game"
No I just want this changed like this just cuz.
I mean really, asking for two button throws when you don’t even play the game man??
Interesting that you didn’t put MvC3 into that basket…
Oh I see, you don’t have an option for “Fool me three times…” yet.
The MvC look is kind of funny like that. Shinkiro’s art looks like a mix between the old lean style of MvC art with the facial expressions straight out of SNK land. I don’t think it is a bad thing at all and it is leagues above the American art for the game. I have no clue where you got the impression that the old Capcom art for the versus series is “Chunky” though. That must have been a mistake on your part because a lot of it is pretty lean and rounded compared to the art for the SF and DS series.
Yep, people just keep asking for 2D from Capcom while bitching about SNK, ASW or ignoring Skullgirls. Capcom is done with 2D. These people need to move on already.
God, this right here. They just keep shoving this shit into every game and it is really annoying and unnerving sometimes. Capcom really needs to look at the music for these games on a case by case basis instead of carpeting everything in electronic music.
I agree with everything except the bold. OS throws in VSav are nowhere near as big a deal as they are in Mahvel 3 for example. The reason is that these throws can’t really be followed it with gigantic combos like they would in versus style games. There is no reason to worry when you have rolls, wakeup DPs, pushblock and guard cancels all available to you on knockdown after the throw. If you can’t deal with OS throws in a game that has no way to follow them up then I don’t know what to say without sounding like I’m insulting you or something. Deal? shrugs shoulders
Yeah, Capcom needs to nip this slow walk speed BS in bud already. It is bad in combination with large stages and terrible if your character has shitty mobility.
In the age where low blockstun and pushback are the order of the day, I’d say that 1frame, 1 button throws are no good. 1 button throws are sorta OK in games with high blockstun and pushback so that in most circumstances you can see them coming, but experience says we are not going to see high blockstun/pushback in DS4. It’s going to be a jabby, hit-confirmy, mash-fest.
Well your kinda setting your self up to be disappointed because its definitely not going to be the same game. They will be bringing in some new mechanics that will change the flow of the game.
Well, you have pretty much every other fighting game on the market to play then. I think just for variety’s sake there should be room for a game that isn’t about combos.
The game having combos doesn’t mean that is all about them, look at GG, yes you can use your resources to make bigger combos (which as i said before, they are never as long as the ones in P4A, BB, UMVC3), yet still the core of the game doesn’t revolve around them (and the same can be said on other arguable “combo heavy” games)
A good combo system is not about making long combos, is about allowing the player have the freedom of exploration, and having the ability to choose what gives you the more benefit for your strategy, like choosing if you would a corner carry combo?, a combo that grants more damage but sacrifice positioning? a combo that maybe wouldn’t do enough damage but would give you an advantageous position on the screen or a knockdown, maybe a combo that wouldn’t do enough damage but could probably help you build meter, etc, etc.
I don’t like the suggestions that want to make this theoretical DS game into SFxT or SF4. Can those wallbounces, groundbounces, vaccuum effects, invinicble backdashes and crumple stay in those games and you just play those games instead of throwing them into everything? Every game doesn’t have to have them and thus play similarly.
MVC3 wasn’t made by Ono.
Not that I disagree with you or anything. That game’s an abomination. It’s fun, but I mean… seriously.
Only like 4 characters have air dashes though.
Please keep 1 button throws and vsav pushblock mechanics. Maybe add Ruby Heart since she was supposed to be a Darkstalkers character at one point?
“Hay guise let’s put Dinty from Devul Maye Cry in DS4”
Fuckin’ Unity. Dev, how do you tolerate it? I’d be an alcoholic mess.
Oh wait, I already am
Yep, but lets include the whole series of characters though.
Air dash
Lei Lei
Phobos/Huitzil
Jedah
Q-Bee
Morrigan(Her dash puts you in the air)
Multiple Jumps
Anak
Bulleta/B.B. Hood/Akazukin
Super Jump
Lilith
The thing with the Airdashes everyone’s was different, Q-Bee’s Homes in, Jedah’s was a glide, Lei Lei ran, Phobos you have to use him as there is really no way to describe it.
I wouldn’t call what Morrigan has a ‘air dash’. She doesn’t actually jump, then dash like the other character on your list.
I don’t think I ever specifically said the VS series, just that Bengus had a chunkier style early on before softening up around the time of A3. Even then, the art isn’t really as “lean” as the stuff Shinkiro’s putting out for the VS games nowadays.
EDIT: On a related note, now it seems that the peanut gallery on Unity is flat out saying that Bengus’ art sucks because of muscles and exaggerated proportions.
Think of it as an “IAD for Dummies.”
If Morrigan’s dash classifies as a ‘air dash’ then so should Felicia, Sasquatch and J.talbain dash.
People who want 2 button throws dont know WTF they are asking for. Can you imagine a throw whiff animation in a game like this? Throws would be rendered useless.
Fast games (like this and kof 98, for eg) need 1 button throws WITH OS. Its just a necessary evil.
